    My long distance move

Great working with this company. I though that the price was fair. Sofia and Naomi were great to deal with. Many thanks to Mark and Jason for the good service at both ends. We moved from Toronto to Ottawa. Great service.

    moving

This was my first significant move as I have always lived in the town where I was born. I received a job offer requiring a move from Halifax to Calgary. They gave me one of the best quotes and Alex took the time to explain everything to me the crew from Toronto: Yasin and two other guys ( sorry memory failed me) were so conscientious and thorough they put me at ease. Alex told me it may take up to 15 days to deliver, but they got it to me in 12 days - delivering on a Saturday. The driver from east to west began reaching out to me by Friday. They delivered everything in good condition! I still have boxes to go through. The delivery guy went above and beyond to open a jammed door on one of my end tables well! This is a company with a lot of integrity on both coasts!! Thank you Troy Moving .

Move from NS to BC April 2012

UPDATE: Please pay attention to this review if you have had a bad experience with Troy Moving and Transportation. Email theglavins99@gmail.com regarding court action and police investigations. Our experience was in March 2012 and many people to this day are experiencing the same still. I agree with Natalie from Halifax, we did a NS to BC move and a lot of her horror seems to be the same as what we endured and are still enduring a year later. I suspect though a lot of our problem started with the particular movers we had on our move. The driver was a "professional" mover but he was short handed so the other two were his friends!!! Now we know why most of our furniture is damaged , boxes were crushed and our flooring in our house has 3 ft scrapes from the furniture being dropped! We have made a complaint with the Consumer Ministry of Ontario and are still waiting for a reply and today we submitted one through the BBB.

    Household Move

After much research, we booked our own long-distance move due to take place this summer, with Troy. When my mother-in-law needed a local mover, we suggested Troy. The crew showed up on time, was courteous, polite and respectful and made every effort to protect her furniture. The only hitch was that a large wall unit would not fit in the elevator at destination and despite attempting to carry it up the stairway, it had to be returned to origin. (This was through no fault of theirs - they measured the stairway on the ground floor but it was narrower a few floors up!) My mother-in-law was extremely pleased with the services provided and we were happy to witness firsthand the type of service we expect to receive when we move. Thanks Troy!

    moving

I would like start by saying thanks Mark and Jason for such a great job. I recently moved from Windsor to Toronto and had about 6 companies contact me Troy was one of them. I had alot of questions to ask since this was my first big move. The customer service was excellent and they answered all of my questions. Though I was surprised on the day of the move when only 2 movers were in the truck. Mark reassured me that everything would fit in the truck I asked him if he was sure and he said no problem. Just to let people get a better idea I moved a 2400 sqft 4 bedroom home. They wrapped all my wood furniture with blankets and bagged all my mattresses there was a buffet and hutch with glass front and shelfs made of glass they bubble wrapped all the glass and wrapped it with blankets put cardboard on top just to make sure nothing else in the truck could move and damage it.The only damage I had was a loose door that had to be tightened. Mark explained to me that Ikea products should be disassembled before being moved they have a habbit of damaging as they move while they are on the truck. I am very happy with the way my move went. Thanks again Troy!!!.

    move from TO to Calgary

The worst experience ever! Empty promises and horrible customer service. Our items got moved from Truck to Warehouse to our Location. Almost all our furniture was damaged! We paid to have movers do this professionally, BIG MISTAKE! We had damaged chairs, dresser and table plus missing items! My new born's clothing was missing and all they did was brush me off.( Employee) ***** was completely aware of this situation and passed my off my file to ***** who didn't even take the time to look at it because their form wasn't filled out!!!!!! Tried to reason with them and all I got told was that nothing could be done because the claim was submitted late (no it wasn't, I provided the proof). If you want to avoid headaches and lost money please do not use this company, they are horrible!

    Alberta to Nova Scotia Move

DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!!! We booked Troy for our Edmonton - Halifax move based on competitive rates and "good" customer service. We had never made a large move like this before, but had lots of advice on what to expect from family and friends. Here's our experience: The week before the move I kind of panicked and had my husband call Alice to confirm everything would be insured - we had nothing to worry about she said, everything was covered for damage. Our November 28 pick-up was supposed to be confirmed a week before, however on the afternoon of November 27 they could only say they would arrive some time between 1 & 3 pm. They called back at 6:15pm on November 27 to say they would be there between 8&9 am. The movers arrived around 10:30am. The movers themselves were professional. There were a two lamps that were not yet packed which we were told not to pack because they could do a better job. My husband signed everything that he was told to sign & they left Our items would be delivered to Halifax the 2nd week of December. We arrived in nova scotia the following week. When my husband called Alice, she was unable to confirm our weight and therefore our cost. This was confirmed the 2nd week of December (at much more than they estimated, despite our stating that we had a 3 bedroom in stead of our 2 to make up for our large quantity of stuff) when she called to say that our belongings would not be delivered until January. I said this was completely unacceptable and that they must be delivered as promised. She confirmed the next day that the truck would come between the 21st & 25th of December. On December 16 they let us know that the truck would arrive the 17th. We met them at the storage unit we have rented & they proceeded to unpack. I'm still not sure why they tagged and listed everything in Edmonton, because the movers did not check off anything as they unloaded the truck and we were not given the opportunity to either. When they were finished, we realized that we were for sure missing a rather large upholstered armchair... which made us wonder what else might be missing. I called Alice to report this and find out what to do. She said to go through everything and email a claim form for anything missing or damaged. My husband spent the next 2 days removing everything from & checking our storage unit. We were only missing 2 items - my armchair & a box. I also received a metal pole (if anyone is missing it - please let me know) and had to turn away a crib mattress that wasn't ours. However there was over $900 in damaged items, including the lamp that I was specifically told not to pack myself. Also damaged: a dresser, fans, china & crystal ( I understand them not being covered when we pack ourselves, but If a double-walled box has a giant hole in the side I think it may have received rough handling). If you include the cost of damages ($900) + lost items ($1800 chair + box of crystal wine glasses) the total claim we submitted was $2700. When you take out the deductable it was still $2350. Alice assured us that our claim would be taken care of by the claims manager, who happened to be away but we would hear back within 2-4 weeks. She also told me that the reason they didn't check off the list at drop-off was because they did that before it left the warehouse - obviously not very closely. My husband started calling at the 4 week mark and left messages and sent emails, but did not hear back. I called myself and spoke with Arthur who supposably was in charge of finding lost items but had never heard about my chair or box. He assured me that he would track them down in the warehouse and let me know when we could expect them delivered. I asked too that our claim be answered asap since by now it had been 5 1/2 weeks since we submitted it. We received Sophia's response to our claim that night - $55. Out of $900 of damage & $1800 lost, she said they were liable for $55. I called the office the following day clearly not understanding how math was done and could only speak to Naomi, who asked if I had even tried when I complained that my repeated emails and messages had gone unanswered. And no - she wouldn't help me, and no - there was no one else I could speak to. My husband spoke to Arthur again who had to check if my items were somewhere in the Edmonton warehouse because they didn't seem to be in the Ontario warehouse. The Edmonton people were away though, so it would be a few days before he'd know. My husband continued to call for Sophia and was constantly told she was in a meeting or not in. Repeated emails never got answered as well. Finally last week Arthur said that there was a chance that my lost items may have been delivered to the wrong house. (Has anybody seen my chair??? Light blue upholstered armchair rocker from my son's nursery - REALLY want it back) My husband sent another email to Sophia pointing out that the claim settlement she sent did not count the lamp that they had packed, that the items we were charged for packing were listed as "owner packed - not covered" on the packing list, and the declared value on our shipment was writted "declined" in someone else's handwriting (not filled out on the pick-up copy, loopy "declined" on drop-off copy) without getting my husband to sign anything about the insurance that "oh don't worry, you're covered against damages" and therefore our items were covered for $0.60/lb even though we didn't provide weights for our claimed items! Her reponse was " I am not saying that what happened is right and that this is acceptable, however, without proper coverage there is only so much that we can do. " I am now supposed to accept that $55 is going to cover the replacement of all of our broken items and a lost chair and a lost box simply based on the fact that their movers did not get my husband to fill out the proper spot of our contract???!!! Still waiting for a response from Sophia. At this point I am concerned because it seems both she and Alice are missing - I haven't received a phone call back from either since the end of December. I REPEAT: DO NOT TRUST TROY MOVING WITH YOUR BELONGINGS. I deeply regret our losses of some items which we will not be able to replace.

    Long distance move

We used Troy Transportation for a move from Calgary to Halifax. I chose Troy as they were a family run business and Alice was wonderful on the phone. We were having a bit of a family crisis and I booked the wrong day for our moving out, thankfully Alice sorted it out easily. The Calgary team who came to pack up the house were fantastic and were in and out in no time. Troy were also storing our items as we were in rented accommodation in Nova Scotia till we purchased a new home. Finally we got our home and were looking forward to getting our furniture and belongings back. It took over a month to get a definate date as ours was not the only shipment to come here. Okay it was not the end of the world so we waited. Finally our items arrived , we were surprised that there were only 2 men to unload as at Calgary there were about 8 people or more . The truck could not get down the driveway so they started to unload a few hundred meters away from the house. This proved too much work for the two man team as we had a very large amount of items and some very heavy items including a slate pool table. Anyway they decided to try and get closer to the house, the driver drove off with the back doors open , spilling lots of boxes, ours and somebody elses all over the drive. Numberous items got broken. Then they got the truck stuck outside our house , after an eternity of trying to move it, and smashing into our home and driving over our water well and driving into the garage, front deck and even bashing into the slate pool table that was unloaded, they admitted defeat and had to call a tow truck to move the truck. Our driveway is now a disaster as the tow truck had to drag it and half our gravel driveway with it. Anyway, lots of our furniture is damaged , beyond repair, items smashed, scratched and missing. The items that left Calgary wrapped in lovely puffy blue sheets as promised on the website, arrived this end wrapped in black plastic bags, not ideal for glass and wood. Our lovely furniture and dining room table are battered and have bits falling off. Completely ruined. Not to mention the damage to the property outside. The whole house shook with the force the truck hit the house. Alice was lovely on the phone and told us to get quotes for all the damage. Complete waste of time as Sofia is involved in this ( now dragging on over a year) and tells us in her nice politeful way that we did not take out extra insurance. Extra insurance does not apply to the building , extra insurance is only for the items removed and if they were packed they way they were promised we would not have so many damaged items. It did not help that the truck drove away with the doors open and stuff fell out the back. Also the slate on the pool table which we had professionaly packaged ( not by Troy) is broken after the truck hit it. Sofia is very clever in her words, basically avoiding the truth which is that they are liable for property damage, what they rely on is that if you take legal action it must be in Toronto. They do not do what they say on the website and will sugar coat everything when their is trouble, do not trust them. They keep saying we never took extra cover , and will not address the situation of the property damage which is completely different from the insurance offered which is only for furniture. Our problems were caused by incompetant staff. To be fair this was never a two man job. This was a huge shipment and far too much for these guys to handle. They had already drove from Toronto and were exhaused and still had another delivery to do and left here 12 hours after they arrived. Cheap labour . I am gutted they way Sofia is treating us. They basically hope you will go away !!!

    Move from Montreal to Calgary

Let me start out by saying that I feel people have unrealistic expectations of long distance movers. It is a really stressful time/process, and people are quick to point fingers. I read tons of reviews and had some basic observations on people's feedback, and I definitely psyched myself out and prepared for the worst. If you educate yourself and prepare things accordingly, things should go fairly smoothly. In a long distance move, people expect their goods to basically be teleported from once city to the next, and that simply isn't the case. Your goods are moved multiple times, transferring to company warehouses, other trucks — usually 3-4 times — so your stuff needs to be packed to take this kind of physical movement. If you are packing your own stuff, PACK WELL, make sure your breakables are appropriately padded, and don't use cheap boxes that will crush or fall apart. When you are getting a quote, be fair and honest in giving them realistic information. If you say you have a small 1 bedroom, but really have a large, heavily furnished 1 bedroom with lots of stuff, SAY THAT. If you give an inaccurate description as to the amount of your stuff and the real weight goes way over, you only have yourself to blame! Just because you say you have a small amount of stuff, doesn't mean you will get charged for that amount if it isn't true. And one last thing... you are given windows of time and dates for a reason. If they say between 1pm and 5pm for a pickup, don't be mad if they come towards the end of that window. If they say 5-10 days to get across the country, if it takes 10 days, yes it is at the end of that date span, but it is still on time! All of this stands for ANY moving company! Be realistic! Anyways, on to my experience with Troy. I chose Troy for our move after getting quotes and reading reviews for about a dozen moving companies. I felt their ratings and reviews vs the cost was fair... not too cheap that it was suspect, but still a very competitive rate. ••• INITIAL CORRESPONDANCE ••• Dealing with Alice and Naomi at Troy was easy and fast. They were quick to respond to emails, both before and during our move, and were quite friendly and professional. ••• THE PICKUP ••• The day before our moving date, we were given a pickup window of 4 hours. The truck arrived, on-time, towards the early side of this window. The movers treated our stuff with respect, tagged everything appropriately, and use moving blankets to wrap furniture where needed. The whole process took about 2 hours for a fully furnished 1 bedroom apartment. It was pleasant and painless. The weight of our stuff was almost exactly the same as our quote. We were quoted 1000-2000 lbs and we had 2100, which was fine and expected as I expressed that our 1 bedroom was on the heavily furnished side. ••• THE DROPOFF ••• We were given a window of 5-10 days for our stuff to arrive. About 7 days into that we were told that our stuff would be arriving on the 10th day, so right on time. The movers arrived exactly when they said they would, at 9am on the dropoff day, and everything was there — nothing misplaced, nothing extra, and everything was in good shape. You can image how relieved we were :) We were moving some extremely breakable, thin, fragile glass items, and NONE of them were broken. The only damage was a small chip on one large item which was entirely due to me preparing it poorly for the move (remember to pack well, people!) ••• OVERALL EXPERIENCE ••• Our moving experience was really great, fairly priced, on time, professional and easy, with no surprises. Troy Transportation were great and, for the price, I really don't think you could expect a better move. **My only comment** would be that our move was subcontracted on the dropoff end (Real Canada Wide Moving, a company out of Edmonton, did the delivery). They were fantastic, but in recommending Troy to other people this would be my only hesitation as it is an unpredictable variable — you have no say in who it is subcontracted out to, and if it is a good company, you're in luck! If not, it is out of your control :( All in all, thanks to Alice, Naomi and the movers at Troy, and the two nice gentlemen from Real Canada Wide Moving :) ••• P.S. If your movers are doing a good job, don't forget to tip them! $20 per mover seems appropriate. Let them know they're doing a good job, so they continue to do so in a line of ungrateful, hard work!
