Emergency Call out Price Gouging - poor Service

Called them to deal with a leak. Took over 8 hours to get there then quoted $600 for job that subsequently had done for less than $250. Their call out fee was $300 additional after hidden costs not declared at the time of the call and by comparison to another plumber that was $35 call out fee. The other plumber turned up in 90 minutes and was one third the price. Plumber.CA is not worth it and not to be trusted to provide good value and service.

Replace main shut-off valve to house meter

DO NOT Use this company. Simple job required, to replace 3/4" main valve that shuts off water to house, as original would not shut off water completely. Dispatcher could not/would not quote on the fact that we knew exactly what was required - advised that Tech when onsite would assess and quote, however required $199 'service charge' (did not mention $20 fuel surcharge!), which would be removed from cost of job. Tech arrived, and quoted $1500.00 just to remove old valve and install new - a simple 30-45 min job for the experienced plumber. I refused the job, and told them I would not proceed with the work, as it was overpriced. I was stuck with the $199 service charge + $20 fuel charge + taxes!. Horrible disclosure of costs, especially for a simple valve replacement that they must due quite often and should be able to quote over the phone, and would not need a Tech to assess , thus incurring service cost and a ridiculous quote. I called a local plumber, who provided a quote over the phone - came the next day, and did the whole job for $175 + the cost of the $25 ball valve! Big difference from $1500. Plumbers.ca is a joke - with unscrupulous predatory practices on those home owners that are in a panic and know no better, and desperate for what generally is a simple repair and are getting gouged. This company should be reported to the Better Business Bureau!

Way too Expensive! Over $300 to turn off the water on dishwasher

Way too Expensive! We had Plumber.ca (Oakville Plumbing) come look at our leaking dishwasher. After turning off the water and telling us we had to buy a new part and install on our own they charged is $323

    Plumbing over flowing toilet

My Dads toilet was overflowing he has dementia. Called Plumber.ca waited 4 hrs...called numerous times. They finally called at 00:40am my sister had left already as it was after midnight. They came next morning. I was there this time. plumber used hand auger to remove half a comb and a plastic bag Dad had thrown in .. the plumber advised me the other half of comb was missing. He flushed the toilet a few times and left. Next morning it was overflowing again. Called back advised the problem, dispatcher told me it would be same price, which was $442.00 for 15mins work with hand auger. So now we are at $884.00 plus tax for something that was never fixed in the 1st place. He yelled and screamed at me hung up on me a few times. In the end I called another company they came in 15mins finished the job in 15mins , he removed the other half of the comb that was left over from the day before and charged me $99.00...Are you kidding me? I will facebook tweet, instagram, do whatever I have to to expose these guys, this is a disgrace.

    Overpaid for unfixed leaking faucet

Paid way too much for work that didn't even fix the problem. I was away and my son had to deal with the problem of a faucet in the shower that was not just leaking but pouring water. My 20-year-old son did his best but was maybe a bit too hasty in trusting they'd fix it. They said it would be $526 to replace the cartridge. After asking (because even he knew that sounded crazy), they said the part costs $50. So $476 for labour? What? So my son said that seemed like too much. The plumber said tightening a screw would hold it for at least a couple of weeks so he did that and charged my son $360--yes, to tighten a screw. A day later it started dripping again. Since I got back, I've called twice and got no call back. My boyfriend was able to change the cartridge after a quick check on the Internet. The cartridge can be picked up for free (lifetime warranty on Moen parts) and the work took 10 minutes (would have taken an experienced plumber even less time). So, if my son had said yes to the full job, it would have been a charge of $526 to replace a free part in 5 minutes. Instead we paid $360 to have a screw tightened, and it didn't even solve the problem for more than a day. I'm still waiting for that call back....

    Leaking Pipe

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. In early December I came home to a tiny stream of water running down the wall in the powder room on the main floor (from the ceiling) causing a bubble of water behind the paint. We unfortunately called Plumber.ca because it seemed like an emergency. One guy came that night and proceeded to cut holes in the wall, pulling out a binder periodically of how much it would be to cut another hole in the wall. 4 hours, 4 holes in the wall and ceiling and $955 dollars later and he had NO idea what the problem was. I don't even think he was a licensed plumber (the company wouldn't give me his license #). They charge you for 'investigating' but not actually fixing the problem. They wanted to come back but I refused. Got somebody else and they solved the problem within 30 minutes and charged me $260. A dream compared to these guys.

    Burst pipe

I unfortunately called this company in a panic after a pipe burst in my basement. I was told that it would cost $399 to send someone out and if i canceled it would still be charged. I had to provide my credit card to him or they wouldn't sent anyone. This was 10:00pm and water was everywhere. About a hour later someone showed up. My son had to show him where the gash in the pipe was and as soon as he saw it, he pulled out his book and quoted me $550 to fix. I was in total disbelief. I told him to just cap it, he said it wont matter, it will still cost the same to cap as it is to replace/fix. After some argument he lowered it to $400. I told him to go ahead. Then, he couldn't fix it. Said it needed another part. by this time it was around 11:30pm on a Sunday, and nothing open and he didn't have the replacement part. With that he told me that he would have to come out again. I had to track him down today and he said that he made a mistake...there would be another $400 charge for him to come out again. I told him to shove it. In the end, I paid $923, this includes tax and the $20 gas charge as well for him to cap the end of the pipe. I will never call this company again. Don't call them...ever!

    plumber

The dispatch sounds like busy guy and not helpful, also e wants dispatch the plumber for 199.99. The plumber came with price book and look at then got out make call privately then offer me 1750. to change the bathtub faucet in full and he didn't do the work with this company and I got it done for 330.00 only with parts. I still had to pay plumber dot ca just came and look at it only. Very bad and take your money for nothing by this company. this company make money just for dispatching and wasting you money and time. I strongly recommend not to call this #.

Change a toilet tank fill valve

Told by dispatcher that it would cost 199 dollars for a plumber to show up but the cost would be waived if ok the work to be done. Insist on the cost up front. The dispatcher said the plumbers carry a price book and the cost would be shown to me then. That cost being $447 plus HST for a total of $505 for a $25 part. They were there, two men, for approximately 20 minutes maybe half an hour.

    kitchen faucet

Plumber.ca charged me $400 plus tax to come out to fix my kitchen faucet sprayer. The tech was unable to fix it, since the part was broken and the exact same part was needed to replace it. (I ended up ordering it myself, and got it 3 days later, free of charge from the manufacturer... I then fixed the faucet myself.) He then assured me that if I called them to fix another problem within the next 12 months, that amount would be subtracted from the cost of the new job. He even showed me an example, and subtracted the $400 to show how little I would still owe. The next day, I phoned the company to verify this, since I was skeptical. I was told that yes, that is true; the cost would be subtracted from the next job. I did need to have a broken floor bolt replaced on a toilet, so I made another appointment for the same plumber to come back in 3 weeks. He specifically told me to ask for him. I called 2 days before the appointment to remind them, and asked again for this specific plumber. Two guys (not the one I had asked for 3 times) showed up an hour late, then told me it would cost another $500 (with tax) to fix the unsteady toilet. When I told them about the previous fee being subtracted, they assured me this was wrong. I would not pay the service charge again, but there would be no reduction in the cost of the job. I phoned the manager to verify this, and he said I had been misinformed by the original plumber. They would never subtract the service charge from the job. So, instead of making my wasted $478 more worthwhile, I ended up paying about $1000 total just to fix a broken floor bolt. I will never call this company again.
