Just a few months ago, I was like lots of people reading the reviews on Homestars as I was searching for someone to help me with what started as a kitchen renovation (but turned into my entire loft) reno. David's design eye stood out for me, and the reviews were good, and when I met him in person I felt we had a meeting of the minds. Was I ever right. He listened to me (important), offered amazing advice and counsel and took care of every detail -- including acting as project coordinator with all the trades. Very happy with the finished product and the experience. For a first-timer, it was painless (and now it's gorgeous). Thanks, David.

When I moved in to my newly built loft, I came to the realization early on that I would need to improve the appearance of kitchen cabinetry which had been poorly installed by the builder. David's expertise resulted in a complete redesign which has improved the functionality of the space and the overall appearance dramatically. David's professional approach and extensive knowledge of materials, finishes and construction requirements was truly indispensable, as was his attention to detail and ability to deliver a fully completed project on time and within our agreed-upon budget. I particularly appreciated the excellent trades he utilized for the project as well - the paint finish, cabinetry work and quartz surface installation are all outstanding. I first came across David J. Design on Homestars, and am I ever glad I looked. Not only highly knowledgeable, David was very easy to work with from the first consultation to the completion of the project. In the past ten years, David has renovated and redesigned three of our kitchens. He is currently creating an elegant diningroom in our downtown basement - probably our most challenging project to date - and the plans he has oresented are further confirmation of his talent as an innovative yet practical designer, his supreme professionalism tempered with a great sense of humour. David is a perfectionist who checks and rechecks every detail. This has the effect of bringing in the job on time and on budget. After living in my house for over 12 years, I finally took the plunge and tackled the job I had been dreading - the kitchen renovation. I had heard so many horror stories from friends, relatives and colleagues that I was determined not to make the same mistakes. I found David J. Designs on this website and after reading all the glowing reviews, decided to give him a call. We made plans to meet one evening the following week - as a single working woman, I appreciated his flexibility in meeting me during non-business hours. I was also impressed with the fact that in addition to his obvious design skills, he also had an architectural background. To make a long story short, we began a collaberation that produced an absolutely stunning end product. David was the consumate professional - he worked hard to stay within budget and kept me apprised of the process the whole way through. He brought in skilled tradespeople with whom he had worked before and stayed in constant contact with them to ensure the work was being done to his high standards. As I live in a pre-World War 2 home, there were plenty of decorating and construction challenges, but David managed to overcome them all and I now have a kitchen that I shall enjoy for years to come. I would absolutely recommend David to anyone in need of a renovation.

I had high hopes when I first met David. Things started off great but fell apart fast. He walked in and said that our formal living room should be black and white. I was not happy with that because it was not even close to what I told David I was looking for. 3 times he came back with a fabric for our drapes that I didn't like from the beginning. The drapes we did get through David still are not correct. The do not hang properly and the top of the other drapes is done part with pleats and the other 2/3 are flat. David says he is not responsible and for me to take them back to the place myself. As for the rest, I stopped after some light fixtures were ordered through ELTE and I had none stop issues. Broken pieces, etc. They refuse to exchange at one point. I then found out that on top of us paying David hourly he was getting 35-45% of the amount we paid for products at Elte. Needless to say we have stopped dealing with all mentioned and a few others. Live and learn. David lost alot on our project by not looking after us. We still have some major renow work to do and have found another designer to work with.

We started off wanting to renovate our kitchen and then decided to do the living room and dining room area as well. That's when David came into the picture. He gave us some great suggestions and guided us through the process. David acts as a contractor as well and the people he contracts are very skilled and have a good reputation and did a great job. When deciding what to buy etc. David really helped us out. He pre shops so that you don't need to spend a whole weekend picking out sinks, faucets etc. David narrows it down to a few choices and then you pick. David will make suggestions, but he always leaves it up to the customer to decide. We found if we didn't like someting he chose, we could tell him and then we would come to an agreement on something else. The renovations turned out beautifully and it was on time! We are still getting compliments six months later. I would definitely recommend him for any home renovations!

I found David on this site and called him for a consultation...we are wanting to finish our basement and had NO idea on how to tackle the layout incorporating a bedroom, tv room, work out room and sauna....fortunately David came through with not only 1 design but 3 for me to choose from...he was great and of course we loved his creative ideas.......I hope to hire him in future for other design dilemma's...

When I decided to renovate the kitchen, I knew we had a challenge on our hands: it is 3 meters wide. But David was fabulous: he listened to my needs and suggested wonderful and/or very creative ideas. But the most important elements for me were his attention to details and his respect of the timetable we had established. How often can one say that? Kudos to David. Catherine Cabbagetown

Superb Service and excellent design advice My wife and I are thrilled with the fantastic results of David’s renovation and design work on our entire East York home. As it was built in 1923 the house has a lot of character but, after having been rented out for the past seven years, it was badly in need of extensive redecoration and renovation. When we recently decided to sell it we chose David J’s service because the creative ideas David presented were exciting solutions to some of our home’s shortcomings and accentuated its many positive features but at the same time was considerate of our budget guidelines. His designs for our bathroom and kitchen renovations are stunning. The colour scheme he developed has opened up all the rooms and complements the extensive wood trim so well. An added bonus was the excellent referrals David provided for the required contracting work. Last, but not least, he was always available to answer our numerous questions on design issues, construction details, etc. David has made what could have been a very stressful experience bearable and even fun at times.
