Question 1

Do moving companies in Edmonton handle office or commercial moves?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Several moving companies in Edmonton offer commercial relocation services, including office moves, equipment transfers, and business relocations tied to the city's energy sector and government base. When posting on HomeStars, specify that it is a commercial project so companies with that experience can respond.

Question 2

How far in advance should I book movers in Edmonton?

Accepted Answer

For summer moves, especially on month-end dates, four to six weeks ahead is a good target. Outside of peak season, two weeks is usually sufficient, though companies can fill up faster during busy periods. Booking earlier on HomeStars gives you more options to compare and a better chance of securing your preferred date and start time.

Question 3

Can a moving company in Edmonton store my belongings temporarily?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Several movers include short-term storage as part of their service, which is useful when there is a gap between your move-out and move-in dates. When posting on HomeStars, note that storage is needed so relevant companies respond. Question 4

Are moving costs higher at the end of the month in Edmonton?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Month-end dates are consistently the busiest days of the year for local movers in Edmonton, particularly from May through August. Rates can be higher and crew availability tighter during these windows. If your schedule allows any flexibility, shifting the move by even a few days can make a meaningful difference in both cost and the availability of the company you want.

Question 5

Do Edmonton movers charge extra for homes in the river valley or mature neighbourhoods?

Accepted Answer

Not as a separate line item, but access conditions in areas like Glenora, Riverdale, and Strathcona can add time to a move. Narrow streets, steep driveways, and properties with more stairs than a typical suburban home all slow the pace. When requesting a quote, describe the property access accurately so the estimate reflects actual conditions rather than an average suburban home.

Question 6

What happens if my move takes longer than the original estimate?

Accepted Answer

Most Edmonton movers bill by the hour, so if the move runs over the estimated time, the additional hours are charged at the same hourly rate. This most commonly happens when the actual volume is larger than quoted, access conditions slow the crew, or elevator or parking issues cause delays. Getting a written estimate that clearly states the hourly rate and any minimum booking requirements protects you if the timeline extends.
