Told us our bathroom renovation would take 6-8 days and it took over 3 months...with constant trade changeovers and others coming in to "look" at the job. Unfortunately we found out too late that they have no trades working directly for them and were told they scour Kijiji to find "help". Two months later and our bathroom ceiling is cracked in multiple areas due to the poor workmanship! Whenever we brought our concerns to the "project manager" he never wrote anything down or used his phone for notes. When he'd show up, if he wasn't trying to upsell us on pointless replacement ideas, he was constantly scrambling, contradicting himself/workers or apologizing. If I had a $1 for every time he would apologize, I'd probably be able to pay for getting the ceiling redone properly! The hilarious thing is that as a kiss up, we were offered 2 free shutters for our troubles and they couldn't even get that right. After the third time to correct we told them to forget it...of course they blamed the shutter company. Please do your homework thoroughly when picking a renovation company!

We had engaged with Alex in July of 2021 to help prepare drawings, designs and submissions required to obtain a building permit from the City. The scope of work was to include: - Arrange for permits on behalf of the owner - Act on behalf of the owner regarding any and all matters having to do with the work - Prepare required documentation for formal submission to city planning - If required, prepare Committee of Adjustment documentation - Prepare final working drawings needed to obtain building permit From the start of engagement there was significant delays in moving forward. Weeks at a time where there would be limited contact and lack of response by email/text/phone. We were given some reasons/excuses that delays were due to personal situations but things would be back on track once they were sorted out. Things progressed although slowly. When receiving drawing drafts and reviewing them as well as providing back comments to update, the time in between revisions took between a few days to a few weeks. The final drawings were completed in Oct approx 3 months after engagement. There were also things we had to ask for twice, that he said was changed but then the drawings were not actually updated. Not to mention trying to get the files sent to us were a pain as well as they always seemed to get "stuck in my outbox". We were told the building permit application went in promptly thereafter but did not receive anything further until the end December - for an authorization form with the city which was provided back from us Jan 2nd, 2022. Later we found out the City only received the permit application on Feb 16th. They had committed to provide comments back before End of March, and they did. It has now been almost 2 months since then and we cannot get a hold of Alex to even let us know what needs to be done next. Many many calls and emails and texts have been sent but he is unresponsive. The architectural work was sub-contracted by Alex to someone, who was on the permit application, and in communicating with them it seems Alex is not even responding back to his own sub-contract trade either. Our payment agreement specified 50% up front, balance on completion of permit ready drawings. Drawings which we did receive, therefore payment has been made in full. However, we have no permit, and are stuck without the ability to keep moving forward. The Job that we hired Balmbuilt for was to obtain the building permits based on the design specification. This has not been completed. A complaint to the BBB has already been submitted as well. Next step will be to file a claim in SCC. Terrible experience. Our expectations are that professionals will deliver to their word, and if for any reason they cannot that there be some acknowledgement and compensation.

This comapny was hired by a neighbour to do a neighbourhood fence! Extremely poor communication, and was not made aware our yards would be sitting open for 4 weeks after posts went in until finally returning to do fence boards. Paid additional $10 per section for removal of old boards and cement only have dumped in front of house and have to ask for days to come back THEN weeks later found they had buried cement from posts in my garden and took 2 months to return to pick up. And finally the lack of professionalism in dealing with Mohammed was astounding to the point of texting me threats about "wanting his money and to not start a problem for him and for me" . Would never recommend this company!!!

Not a quality drywall job. Certainly not up to the standards we have elsewhere in the house. The stairs are covered with mud and the basement has dust everywhere. Not enough care taken to keep the dust confined.

It did not proceed. The job was a simple recalling of some skylights. I explained the roof was metal and 45 degree slope. You accepted and set a date for the work to be done for $85/hr. I later explained a 20 foot ladder was adequate to access the roof as it had been so accessed by a professional outfit before. Your man arrived with a fold up ladder he said was inadequate. I doubt he intended to do the job. He said he needed another person to do the job and I agreed. I was then informed that an unspecified number of roof anchors costing $295 each were required. I was then informed that a mechanical lift would also be required. My roof has been easily accessed and worked on before without a lift or roof anchors…but the men were experienced professionals. I could not recommend your firm for metal roof work as a result of this experience. Ryan was however a very nice person.

In May 2019, I hired Shubrook Constructions to do landscaping. The company installed a water feature with bubbling rock as part of the landscaping. In July 2020, the pump that was under warranty stopped working. I informed the owner about the pump malfunction on July 6, 2020, and requested that he replace the pump or provide me with the warranty papers. On July 10, 2019, I wrote directly to the pump manufacturer in the UK and copied the owner. The manufacturer asked for the pump purchase information to carry out the proper paperwork to affect a warranty return. The company representative from the Sales and Customer Service noted: "I am unable to replace a pump under warranty without proof of purchase." On August 3, 2019, I followed up with Shubrook Constructions. While the company provides a one-year warranty for their work, the pump was still under warranty. I told the owner that if he could not replace the pump, please provide me with the required papers to get the pump directly from the manufacturer. I received the owner's response that the pump is getting delivered. It should be here within a few weeks. On September I2, 2020, I received another email from the owner about another delivery date. After repeated attempts and follow-ups with the business, the company installed the pump that did not display the bubbling feature I paid the money for. I told the owner I was very dissatisfied. The owner assured me that he would install the same/similar pump. Due to COVID-19, I was very patient with the company. After repeated attempts and emails, on June 15, 2021, the owner indicated that he would install the pump by the end of that week. However, he did not come to install the pump nor inform me that he would not be installing it. On June 21, 2021, I contacted Better Business Bureau (BBB) to resolve the issue. That same day I received a text from Shubrook Construction owner "Got the pump. Will be stopping by tomorrow to install." I informed BBB of the text and that I would withdraw the complaint if he installed the pump. However, the owner did not install the pump. On July 20, 2021, I received a response from BBB: "Your BBB has made several attempts to contact the business regarding the above referenced complaint. We regret to inform you that we have not received a response from the company." I contacted the Canadian Home Builders' Association. They informed me that as "Shubrook Constructions is not a member of the Canadian Home Builders' Association," they could not assist me. After talking with the College of Trades, I contacted Consumer Protection, Ontario. They reviewed my file and assigned a consumer officer from the Consumer Services Operations Division in December 2021. The officer offered a mediation. On December 17, 2021, I received the following response from the consumer officer, and they referred me to legal services: "The ministry may mediate a complaint if the parties agree to mediation. The business named in your complaint does not agree to mediation. Your complaint suggests that there may be evidence of a contravention of consumer law." In summary, Shubrook Constructions: 1) did not replace the pump with the quality that would provide the same bubbling rock feature even though the owner informed me that he has the pump and will install it; 2) did not return the hose that the owner took that I paid for. When I questioned why the owner took the hose with the old pump, I understood that he would replace the entire unit; nor 3) provide me with the warranty papers and the receipt for the pump that the manufacturer required. Fortunately for me, when I contacted the pump manufacturer and explained the situation, the sales and customer service wrote: "Ideally, we would like the pump purchase information so that we can carry out the right paperwork to effect a warranty return for you, but if that is not forthcoming, as a customer of ours with a warranty failure, we will put this right for you." And he sent the pump, free of charge. The company was terrific. However, the pump did not come with the hose. I have learned a lot through this experience. I should have insisted on the warranty papers rather than taking the owner's word for it. Further, I should have contacted BBB to check if the company is BBB accredited. Shubrook Constructions was not BBB accredited - if the business is not an Accredited BBB Business, they are not required to respond to complaints. Also, in the future, I will contact the City of London for any construction work or updates to my home. The city can help consumers understand construction codes (e.g., window well installation). In some cases, an inspector can also do an inspection. Through the College of Trades, one can check what any business is licensed for and isn't. One can contact the Canadian Home Builders' Association for home building information. I have written to local and provincial officials to strengthen construction and landscaping laws. Fortunately for me, the manufacturer demonstrated very high-quality customer service. They replaced the pump without papers and helped me understand what I needed to install it as I no longer had the hose from the old pump.

Ali at Fixo never plans ahead or takes responsibility. He promised a tiled shower and base that'd avoid mold, as another contractor offered. After demolition, he said his tiled floor was no guarantee against mold. I felt stuck, and was forced to accept an acrylic base he assured me would be waterproof, but failed to properly waterproof underneath. He was also messy, disorganized, and pushed time limits set by my condo. He rushed to install a shower door from Amazon I asked he check, as it had been repackaged. After installation, he explained the glass risked hitting the towel rail and left a solution to me. I pointed out warping of the frame he said he'd fix, then didn't. After I paid, I found a scratch on the glass door and torn liner. He accused me of sending a fake picture, was abusive, and made up excuses to not exchange the door. Now water's leaking outside the shower onto the floor as silicone peels off. I want a REFUND! Find my detail review in attached images.

We hired Right Home Decor to install our curtains. It has now been a month, and the job is still not completed. On the first day, I paid him in full, even though the work was not finished. He agreed to return another day to complete it. When he came back on the second day, we realized that one of the materials was not compatible. We agreed that once I got the correct material, he would come and complete the installation when he was available. I later got the right material and reached out to him. He agreed to come the following week. On the agreed day, I waited for him, but he never showed up. He also didn’t reach out to inform me; I was the one who had to follow up. He then told me he was out of town — this was after I had been waiting for him. He promised to come the next day or, at the latest, the following week. However, the week passed without any communication from him. Again, I had to follow up, and he said he would come in two or three days. My Master room window is just bare
