Review from John McDonald Review left on 9 Jun 2010Rating: 0 out of 5I think I am his latest, in a long line of victims !! I wish I did a basic google search on his name before conmencing. He takes a deposit, does minimal work to show some sort of progress, installs only cheap material components then asks for progression payments. In the end he is sitting on your material and components in his warehouse/shop and won't release them to you. His workmanship is questionable and his ability to deliver times lines impossible. He will bring levels of stress into your household you have never seen in your life.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

Just adding my complaint to the long list against Hawthorne Kitchens. They are still in business (somehow) now operating as Hawthorne Kitchens of Stouffville. AVOID HAWTHORNE KITCHENS!!! A four week job has turned into a four-month disaster with no end in sight. They over-promised and under-delivered. They are incredibly unprofessional: once the contract was signed, they were impossible to reach; they showed up when they pleased, with gaps in work of weeks at a time. Google them before you sign anything - the legion of Hawthorne's dissatisfied customers is growing weekly. Bottom line: they don't deserve your business.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

Trevor [last name removed--Ed] is a charming salesman and the trades who did the work (none of whom work for him any longer, I am told) did good quality work, however Trevor ran into business difficulties in late 2009 and he never finished the job. His organization, project management, and communications skills (once the contract was signed and the deposit paid) were abysmal. Despite repeated written promises to finish the work, Trevor [last name removed--Ed] no long responds to e-mails, texts or phone messages. I have terminated our contract and am cleaning up his mess.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

Hello, we hired Trevor and Hawthorne to renovate our kitchen. He bragged of over 30 years in the business but afterwards we found out that he only took over Hawthorne a couple of years back. Any GOOD work that Hawthorne is known for before that is in no way connected to Trevor as he implies when trying to get your business. We were left high and dry and in the end he tried to blame us. He was deceptive every step of the way and if we had researched Hawthorne in more depth before starting, we NEVER would have gone with them. There was delay after delay on every part of the job from materials to labour. The only thing that was prompt was when Trevor asked for money. A kitchen is not something you change everyday. They made mistakes in measuring, in ordering, in scheduling and just kept extending the time we had to go without a kitchen.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

Trevor has just taken over hawthorne in the past two yrs, which was a company with good reviews, until trevor stepped in. My reno is now months behind and about 50-60percent complete. I wish that i held more money back, as i am not financially able to hire another company to finish the reno, I am at the mercy of hawthorne. The only contact i have with hawthorne is the occasional email, with another promised completion date which comes and goes, without anyone even showing up. I was able to get into contact with a few of the other homeowners who are getting work done through trevor, and they too are in the same situation as myself. The work performed was done at a professional level, but hawthorne has lost some of their installers for non payment of wages. This experience has caused a great amount of stress and tension for my family over the past few months. I believe hawthorne is having financial trouble which hopefully they can work through. My advice to anyone looking for a reno is to RUN! If you must use hawthorne for whatever reason, only pay them as work is completed. Even if you have to give him a check every week. Be careful!Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

Very sad that Trevor hurts innocent people who have saved money to update their houses. I cannot count the number of delays in our project. - they don't even call to tell you that no one will be showing up that day -- or that week !! What nerve. He went back on all his promises. Please, please read the fine, detailed print in the contract -- he says things but then changes the wording on the contract and you think it is what you discussed but it's not and he is sneakily in the clear.Answer from pro:
Thank you for your posting. This sounds like the PATEL family of Brampton. Very early on in the renovation process it became evident that Hawthorne did not clearly understand the scope of the project. This became clear on the second day of work when we were asked to complete tasks that were not part of the written scope of work originally agreed upon. After discussing this further with the Patel family, Hawthorne decided to proceed with the work and complete several items at no additional charge. This same scenario repeated itself several times until our project manager no longer was able to offer athe free extra work. Unfortunately, this stance did not go over well with the Patel family. We regret to say that after much hard work and many, many discussions how to complete the work in a cost effective and profficient manner, we are no longer working on the project. The relationship came to an abprut end when very unexpectedly the client without permission used one of our trade accounts to acquire material. Hawthorne tried many times to contact the client to discuss why this was done, but our calls and letters went unanswered. Unfortunately the relationship was forced to come to an abrupt end because of this incident and the propoer authorities are investigating the manner. We again encourge the Patel family to return the material to the supplier. We would then be very happy to continue the work and finish the last remaining details of the project. Sincerely, The Hawthorne Team.

They came in and told me what i needed and the price was definitely right. I found them to be clean and effifcient and were roughly on time. We would recommend them to friends who are looking for the same type of renovation. Hawthorn s crew are very proud of their work and it showed, A great family business.
