That's not what Marek, who is a crook, charged me. It's what I ended up paying after we found out he wasn't paying his subcontractors, whom we had to hire independently, and after he declared bankruptcy leaving us in the bag to finish the job with another contractor. Never mind the fact that he opened the same business the next day with a different number and left us, for an entire winter, with a gaping hole in the front of our house. This company is bad bad news. Stay far away. He did the same thing to others we know though he gave us a bunch of good references to start.

We contracted Beautiful Basements to renovate our basement and they far exceeded our expectations. With some very impressive suggestions from the sales rep. our basement has turned out to be everything we wanted and a little more. Contrary to other reviews written we had no payment issues...Beautiful Basements provided a payment schedule which was broken down into stages. Everything went extremely well for us. Thanks Beatiful Basements for giving us the basement we've always dreamed of.

I contracted with Marek G of Beautiful Basements to have my basement done fully. They sent workmen they never worked with before to start off and the project was not being done as planned. A lot of shortcuts were attempted and there was no supervision of workers. They said that I had to purchase some items myself and it would be deducted off the total at the end. There were a lot of delays and we had to make numerous calls to get them to do anything. In the end they work stopped with the basement not completed. I filed a suit in Small Claims court and won the judgement for $10,000. Marek and his associates were nowhere to be found. They did not show up in court. He had no home or work address. I have still not collected a penny. Stay away from this company.

I just had to write and tell you have extremely satisfied my family and I were and are with Marek and his team of professionals. Even though our basement was about 1 week longer the results were completely worth it. I had read these reviews and decided to make my own decision by meeting Marek in person and in the end it was a completely satisfying experience. I have friends in a similar industry and I always hear stories about people signing contacts and then wanting tons of extra's to the contract and they expect these extra's for free! Upgrades or additions to contracts are never free and people need to understand that. Contractors are generally self employed so loosing money on a contract is not an option for them...that is their livelihood. If you purchased a car and then wanted an upgraded sound system in it then you would have to pay for that....the same goes for contractors. I believe that some of the people complaining here may have been in that situation and thus got frustrated when free upgrades were not an option and they were asked to pay for them. Anyway, I took a chance on Marek and his team and it truly paid off for us. We love and enjoy our basement very much...sometimes more than our main floor! I hope anyone visiting this site will give Marek and his team a chance because they are true professionals who provide quality of workmanship in their projects. I have already recommended them to some friends.

A contract was signed in September 2007 with owner Marek for the renovation of my basement in the amount of $30,000. Work was stipulated to be complete in 6-8 weeks. Work started on time but once the final payments were given to Marek about 1/2 way into the job, they disappeared. The subcontractor stopped coming, leaving much work left to be completed. Marek did not return calls and his subcontractor refused to come on grounds that he was not being paid by Marek. This dragged on for months and I had to bring in another contractor to complete the work, as several major outstanding items, like missing staircase railings and an open drop from the second floor foyer to the basement, were incomplete and unsafe. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Once they have your money, they will disappear and move onto their next project and never return your phone calls. Beware if you choose to deal with them -- we have learned an expensive lesson.

Beautiful basements did a wonderful job making our home look great and more enjoyable and i am sure of using them for any other renovation in the future and is more than happy to refer Merek and Fenton crew to any one who needs work done because they are the ones who did my job and they did an excellent job.

Marek and his crew walked off my project without completing the work. Tried on numerous occasions to resolve the issue with them, but this seems to be there normal practice. After leaving my project, they started another project and with the same results, did not complete the work. Legal action was taken against Marek & Beautiful Basements, during the trail date; Marek showed up at the court room, registered and then left. Judge continued with the trail and the decision for the settlement was in my favor. Marek has been given until May 24th, 2008 to reply with the payment awarded by the court. With my experience and many others, this company and owner is someone you should stay away from. Marek, if you receive this reply, contact me to discuss the payment in order to avoid further legal matters.

Now we have something more to show off, thanks to Marek and Fenton crew for the excellent job on our basement we never expect that it will turn out to be so nice without any hassle the guys were very careful with the materials when they passed through the house we had no damages whatsoever, our job was finish within the time frame specified by the contractor, evrything was excellent and we love our extra space. thanks again beautiful basement

Stay as far away from this company as you can get. Merek and his crew are bad news. They did terrible work and walked out on the job while it was far from finished. They are the worst company we have ever dealt with for anything. Do yourself a favour and do not hire them.

I hired Beautiful Basements [removed owners name] to finish my basement,WHAT A MISTAKE. Much like many of the previous comments, he takes almost all of your money and then walks off the job. Then the contractor actually doing the work offers to finish the job, but of course you must pay him as well. His pattern is clear, and seems to be continuing. The only time you see or hear from him is when he wants to get paid, otherwise he is like a ghost. Trying to get in touch with him is next to impossible, he claims his phone is off or in a basement or in an area where his phone has no reception. Now I know why he did not answer his phone, he was screening his calls so that the many other unsatisfied people could not get a hold of him. His subs all claim he is not paying them and try to make you feel guilty and sorry for them so that you will pay them directly. He will promise you the world, but in the end all you get is frustrated and a half finished basement (if you're lucky). His showroom is full of samples of material but when it is time to deliver he claims that it is out of stock and that you can get a better selection if you buy it yourself and he will credit you. Don't you believe it. Overall, he turned my dream basement into a nightmare.
