    Shower renos

We had Mr. Build complete a big job of renovating 8 showers at our hostel property. This included demolition, installing new bases, framing, and tiling. Doug and the rest of the team were professional, courteous, committed to the job and did quality work. We look forward to contracting them again in the future.

    Bathroom renovation

We are very happy on how our renovated bathrooms turned out by Kurt, and his team from Mr. Build Vancouver. Our old bathroom shower tiles were getting moldy and leaking due to its age, and fixtures was due for a replacement as well. We hired Kurt and his team for the installation of the new replacement materials and fixtures, including floor and wall tiles. We decided to go with Kurt from reading several online positive reviews, and he made good first impression on us during the first site visit. Kurt has that punctual, positive personality that is willing to listen to our concerns. We are glad that we made the right choice of hiring him and his team. The renovation scope involved several tradesmen from their team, including tiler, plumber, and electrician. We love their polite, positive energy when listening to our concerns on site, especially from Doug that was doing most of the work. We can tell each of them are courteous, very experienced professionals on what they do due to their clear explanations and detailed work. We also appreciate Kurt coming to site visit to observe the progress during mid-renovation, allowing us to show him some areas that needed attention. Overall, my bathrooms are looking great, and a happy customer due to the job that Kurt and his team did.

Air conditioner tubing installed in window.

Nic was at my home a total of 45 minutes in 2 visits..one to asses and one to install. He needed to cut a piece of plywood and paint it white outside of my home visit. I find the cost over the roof for what time and equipment was required.

    Answer from pro:

I explained the following to this customer - that we have a two hour minimum service charge per site visit. We went to the site to assess what was required. We found that her window was not square and it was explained that we would need to return to our shop to cut custom pieces to accommodate her air-conditioner system. We primed and painted the prepped material in our shop and returned to the site to install as required. The fact that we billed the client 3 hrs is very reasonable on our part and we would have been very happy to discuss any concerns with her she needed, but she chose to go straight to an ongoing complaint? It's unfortunate as this would have been resolved with a simple phone call. Thanks Kurt Gust (Owner)

    Fence repair

Kurt and the crew from Mr. Build have completed a number of large and small projects for me over the years and I have always been very happy with the work. The most recent project was repairing a sagging fence. Paul and Adam came up with an elegant solution that looks good and is really solid. Thanks very much!

    Bathroom Renovations

We hired Mr Build after receiving prompt, fair quotes from Kurt. Our bathrooms were straight from the 70s and in need of an overhaul. They were demolished carefully. Doug installed both bathrooms and did a great job. He is professional, trustworthy, and reliable. Will use their services again.

Repair an area of bulging stucco on the west wall of my duplex.

There was a bulge on the side of the house. Kurt's team cut it and cleaned it and we saw the reason for the bulge. There was a board missing which they replaced. The stucco person came by quietly over 3 visits and matched the pattern perfectly followed by the painter who matched the paint perfectly. They built a bathroom shower for me previously. There work is timely and extremely well done. The workers are polite and attentive. Very very good contractor. S lawrence

    Den Privacy Wall and Door

Frame in new walls to enclose a den with a door and closet. After semi-completion, we offered to do final sanding and noticed the imperfections in drywall and frame of door. We had the owner, Kurt, over to review our concerns, and although we agreed too quickly on the final price - it did not adequately reflect the changes nor the quality of work and the substitution of materials. A small job is never that – it always leads to repeat customers and referrals if the price is reflected fairly and work is done correctly! I see now why more people DIY!

    Answer from pro:

It is unfortunate that this client chose to do an on-line review before asking us if there was anything we could do? We addressed all their concerns and offered to return to finish the balance of work. The owner said he wanted to finish it himself and would rather have a discount. We met on site and they were offered a discount. They agreed to the new discounted balance. We did everything that was asked for and the clients were treated in a professional manner throughout this small project. sincerely, Kurt Gust

    Ceiling Insulated and Drywalled

When doing a kitchen remodel decided to take down the whole ceiling that connected to the family room and have it insulated and drywalled. The work was done perfectly by Adam and Paul, and if weather and did not interfere with the schedule my review might have been different. But, I found Kurt Gust's handling of it to be less than ideal. What should have been a 4 day job ended up being spread over 2 weeks because, and I quote "I can't make Mudd dry any faster" I may just be a amateur when it comes to mudding and taping, but I have never needed 48 hour drying time between coats. The end result of our job being a low priority was losing our scheduled time with the hardwood installer, which meant bumping out the cabinet install date. In the long run is an extra two or three weeks a big deal, no. I just would rather deal with a trades person who just gives me the real reasons for delays.

    Answer from pro:

Thanks so much for taking the time for the review - we always appreciate any input from our clients. It appears we did not explain the process for this type of project. In ideal conditions without any snow and traffic problems, we should be done in 4 - 6 days depending on how fast the mud dries. I can assure you, we would rather come each day until project complete but a staggering project can be difficult to schedule with other ongoing projects and weather conditions. I apologize for the delays but it was for good reason and unavoidable. Thanks again, Kurt Gust
