    Solar Awning and Patio Furniture

The team at Sunguard were exceptionally helpful and patient during the original ordering process and with prompt assistance the years since the original install / delivery. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for awnings and related furnishings and outdoor decor.

    Backyard awning install

Michel is a true professional. I am in sales myself and I know a pro when I see one. From start to finish, the service was excellent. He was very clear - visited my home - made great suggestions - and most importantly to me, is a man you can trust. His response times on e mail are amazing, the quality of his work and product are absolutely impeccable. Dont even bother shopping around! Ramesh

    Great Service

This summer we installed a new backyard patio and decided to complement it with an awning. We visited several awning retail vendors and decided to go with Sunguard awnings because of the salesman Cory. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable about his products. He explained how everything was installed and showed us the mounting hardware. He cleared up all the worries we had about it being mounted on our brick house. The installation team arrived on the day and time specified to do the installation. They were very professional. They installed the power cord for the motor exactly the way we wanted it so that it was hidden on the side of the house. They even suggested getting some paint for the cord to match it to the brick. They cleaned up thoroughly when they were finished and left the patio looking the same as when they arrived. Well done!

    Excellent Service

Sunguard was a pleasure to deal with. I purchased patio furniture for my backyard this past summer and everyone from the sales process to the delivery was just amazing. They had helped me choose the furniture items and had a great range of colours and styles to choose from. I had some questions after the sale and they were very diligent in providing me with the information I needed. Highly Recommended!

    Outside furniture

We were looking for a complete backyard "upgrade" in patio furniture, specifically a couch, fire pit, chairs, ottomans, loungers etc. We researched and visited 7 different outdoor furniture locations around Mississauga. In the end we went with Sunguard as the quality of the furniture was so high, the staff were so friendly and helpful and not pushy and the package price worked for us. We would highly recommend Sunguard for any outdoor furniture needs.

    Outdoor patio furniture & firepit

In our new home we needed a turn crank in 2014 for an old wall mount awning over the back deck which is how I found Sunguard Awnings. While I was only there to spend $25 Robert and Michel were happy for me to browse the showroom. You could see that they had a variety of styles for both furniture and awnings available and I appreciated that they gave me an estimate to restore our awning without a hard sell to buy a new one. In spring 2015 with a new deck being built we needed furniture and thought we'd be rehabilitating the awning so off to Sunguard we went. Robert walked us through the furniture and firepit options and we chose Cabana Coast for the sectional and dining table & chairs. We liked that there were a selection of pieces that enabled us to customize the layout to our space. While the dining chairs were back-ordered they kept me informed on the status and worked hard to get us everything else just in time for the backyard 'reveal' party. When the sectional was configured we realised one more piece would be perfect and they were able to quickly fulfill the request. Our guests find the sectional and dining chairs very comfortable and the firepit is a hit on those cool evenings - we've had a few ask for information on the brand. Once the old awning was removed for new siding we hesitated on replacing it with the same structure. Sunguard has a variety of awning options and we'll go back this year to find a shade solution.

Cast Aluminum Patio Furniture & Gazebo

Sunguard Awnings is not just an awning company - they also carry patio furniture, gazebos, and sun shelters. We discovered them when searching for dealers that sell Cabana Coast cast aluminum furniture. We visited a number of specialty patio stores during the process of choosing our furniture. Given the cost of cast aluminum sets (which we decided on for long-lasting quality), we wanted to make sure the model we chose would be comfortable for many years to come, and accommodate our tall family. We were disappointed to find most of these stores had only a few Cabana Coast pieces to try, although pricing for the entire line was easily obtained. We arrived at Sunguard expecting more of the same, and were quite pleasantly surprised to find they had every model on display we had wanted to try out, and more. This allowed us to make an informed choice. The best part turned out not to be their selection, however, but their excellent customer service. Robert, one of the owners, made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Most importantly - he listened. I cannot stress that enough. He listened to what we wanted, provided information, then let us make our own choices. At no point did we feel pressured or "sold". Any questions we had were answered cheerfully, and no question was too many. Robert made us feel we mattered. The icing on the cake was Sunguard's pricing, which was very competitive. We purchased the furniture in May, before construction had begun on our new deck. Robert was wonderful in delaying delivery to suit our schedule. During that time, via email, we discussed many different shade options for our extremely sunny, elevated deck location (full sun until mid-afternoon). Ultimately, we chose a 10' x 13' gazebo with curtains and netting, and optional Sunbrella fabric top. This one product solved three of our problems: it offered a shade solution, provided privacy flexibility, and a bug-free environment when required. Robert responded to all communications promptly, in detail and with good humour. When delivery was set, I changed my mind at the last minute to request assembly of all furniture and the gazebo (as a surprise for my husband who planned to build it himself). We moved the date up one full week (when the deck was completed ahead of schedule) and Robert was once again very accommodating. He arrived promptly and did an excellent job putting it all together, asked how I wanted the furniture placed, and arranged everything for me. (My husband was thrilled when he arrived home!) It was the perfect conclusion to an already enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend Sunguard Awnings to anyone without reservation. I have already passed their name along to our deck builder, whose own customers are always looking for shade solutions. Thank-you, Robert, for everything you did for us. awning

Stitching in seams in awning disintegrated after a few Southern Ontario summers. Company wanted min $600 to repair. Stitching on top of awning facing sun was a single-thread, basting stitch. Obviously inferior thread and stitching used for outdoor sun exposure. Company did not respond to repeated requests to discuss. Just a money grabbing company.

    Answer from pro:

Hello, Just wanted to set a few facts straight, This Awning was purchased in 2006. At that time we offered a 5 year warranty we are now into year 8. We always try to help our customers to the best of our abilities and pride ourselves on this fact. After speaking to the customer and giving them a verbal quote at a reduced rate they responded with a letter and we in turn replied to with at written letter which was mailed out (please see attached letter). We have installed thousands of Awning in the GTA since 1996 and have never had a negative response. We are here to please and are willing to work with you. Ann & John Subject: Your awning installed in May 2006 Dear Mr. & Mrs. I am sorry to hear that your awning has a seam separating after 8 years of sun and weather exposure. However, the thread used on your awning is the same thread used for thousands of awnings on the market including our competitors. It is not unusual to get a thread breaking after 8 years with the high ultra-violet exposure it faces. We used the best thread available at the time. There has since been some improvements in the field of UV resistance but it was not available 8 years ago. We always use the best thread available to the trade. Most customers replace their covers for retractable awnings after 10 years. However, it can occasionally happen that the thread goes before 10 years and obviously happened in your case. It is also possible that a bird could have picked at the thread but in any case, the 8 year is not out of the ordinary. I don’t know what you expect from us but most of our many customers replace the cover (not worth repairing as the thread will break down somewhere else within a couple of years) plus the cost of the labor to take down and re-install does not justify repairing. That is why most customers elect to replace the fabric and hopefully get 10 years (or 8) with a new cover. The temporary solution would be to use a double sided tape or we can supply a fabric glue that works fairly good but is visible. The glue is $20. However, you will face the inevitable within a few years and have to replace the cover. The cost to replace your cover is actually $864 plus HST. Best Regards, Michel Bernard Sunguard Products Ltd. 3600A Laird Rd. Unit #5 Mississauga, Ontario L5L 6A6 Michel Bernard Sunguard Products Ltd.

    Outdoor automated blinds

Michel, the owner of the company, matched and beat the price of another company. He installed 2 automated outdoor blinds around my back porch. They block the sun while allowing me to still see the outdoors. He came to my house as many times as needed to ensure that I was happy with the choice of the blind. He went above and beyond and made a small one for me to make sure that I could see it in its proper perspective. I am very pleased with the work of the installers he sent to me. Thank you Michel.
