My weeping birch tree was badly attacked this spring, again, by leaf miner. My usual arborist, who I have been happy with, drills holes around the trunk and inserts insecticide pellets. After that is done, I have to run the water on the tree for at least an hour. With the watering restrictions in place, that was not possible this year. So I called Mathew at A1 and asked if they had some other method of dealing with this blight. He responded that his company does tree injections that do not require extensive watering afterward. So, he sent out Andrew the next day to give me a quote. I accepted, and Andrew did the injections right then and there. I am happy that they were able to respond so quickly, given that I should have acted a week or two earlier. I hope that the injections shall be effective at arresting the advance of the leaf miners.

I have a several decades-old large caragana hedge that borders almost my entire lot. It had gotten wild and overgrown and desperately in need of being cut back and cleaned up. I received quotes from 3 companies and not only was A1 the best price, I also felt that they were knowledgeable and sincere in their advice, and didn’t attempt to convince me to have a bunch of other work done that I hadn’t requested a quote on. Communication was great and once I agreed to move forward they came the next day to complete the work. I couldn’t be happier with the results. The height and depth is exactly as I’d requested and they worked carefully around an old lilac tree that I didn’t want any damage to occur to. I will definitely recommend them to others and have them back for future hedge and tree work in my yard as needed.

I live in an older community known for it's larger lot sizes and mature trees. Our property had 3-45 year old spruce trees in a grouping in the corner of the front yard. There were several issues with the trees that needed to be addressed; the trees were killing the grass, they created a huge mess on the lawn and in the gutters, and they blocked a lot of natural light from our main living space. The solution to all of these issues was to remove the trees. A1 came onsite to quote the removal of the trees. We discussed a couple of options before deciding that the trees would be coming down. Their pricing was very reasonable but I got a good sense that they had the experience needed for a job this size. We were lucky that they could fit us into the schedule quickly and a few days later the A1 Team returned to remove the trees. I was impressed by their professional equipment and how efficiently they worked. They defiantly knew what they were doing and had the trees removed and cleanup completed in about 2.5 hours. The wood was stacked neatly on the front lawn and they placed an ad on Kijiji which had it completely gone by noon the following day. A week later we had them come back to remove the stumps with the grinders as it had warmed up. They did a fantastic job and I was so impressed at their patience as it did not look like easy work! It's been a week since we removed the trees and I have no regrets. My friends and neighbours are astounded by how good my house looks from the street. I couldn't be happier with the huge increase in natural light. We are looking forward to planting grass and maybe some shrubs in the spring. Thank you Matthew and team. I appreciate your hard work.

We had A1 come in to remove two trees and stump last fall. Their price was good and they cut the two trees down quickly, cleaned up and stacked the wood. Initially I was happy with their work, until I noticed how poorly they stumped both trees in the spring. The front tree was stumped an inch below ground level and the back tree was pretty much just at ground level with a small amount of dirt covering the stump. I called A1 and sent him a picture. The owner Mathew, said he could stump it for $150, but I told him I already paid him to stump it and that's what I was left with. He agreed it should be stumped much deeper and he would have to get back to me. I called a week later to see when they could come, he said he would have to get back to me since they are very busy in another part of the city and not sure when they would be back in my area. I called multiple time in the next 3 weeks, most of the time whey screened my calls and would not answer. Only when I called from a different number, they would answer. I explained to them that I had plans for 2 weeks away for bobcat to clear the area where the stump was and needed it stumped. He told me he would come out on Tuesday or Wednesday. Both days passed and they never showed. So I call again and the excuses began. They said their stumper is broken, it may take a few weeks to fix (but I had a friend call and ask about stumping a tree and they said they could do it right away). He assured me he would be out to stump the tree before the Saturday when I was bobcatting the area. But of course they never showed. It is clear they never had the intention of coming back to finish the job properly. I would have rather them just say they were not coming back so I could make arrangements. Instead they wasted a lot of my time, money, and energy. I ended up paying another company that was on my street working this week to do it properly. When he looked at it, he shook his head, said the original stumping was a joke and I was ripped off. Do not use A1 Tree Service.

I phoned Matthew and he came out that day to give me an estimate. They even started the job right away once we decided to use them. These guys were amazing. They did the whole job in under 5 hours, and they took down two huge trees and pruned another. They were efficient and capable. I would recommend them. I give them a 90% on cleanup of the job site.

A1came and gave quote, did the work, and cleaned up. Awesome job! They were respectful,efficient, and safety oriented. Great team work! Last time we had the spruce trees worked on was at least 15 years ago, this was a big job! Well done! Will use them again for sure.
