I hired Shawn to fix major issues with my walkout balcony—a sagging dormer roof, rotted posts and underneath structure and flat roof pooling. He quoted a 2-day job with 50% upfront. Work dragged on for over a month with poor communication and slow progress. Key contract items weren’t completed or done improperly. He didn’t jack up the roof enough to fix the eaves slope, did not reslope flat roof, didn’t remove the old membrane and instead installed the new one over the old one. The membrane ends abruptly near the threshold, with visible old material and substrate along the edge, and several other things can't fit in this review. When I raised concerns, he said “wait until I’m done.” On May 13, he claimed the job was done and demanded the rest of the payment. When I refused due to unfinished work, he threatened to lien my property and destroy the work done. He also said “You’re asking for a Rolls Royce for your budget.” when he's the one who wrote the contract. I simply agreed and paid.

I had water intrusion through the siding, leaking over the foundation wall and into the electrical panel. I contacted Shaun from Stay Strong Roofing and Contracting, who promptly removed the old siding, exposed the wet wood, and applied a protective rubber layer. I paid him in full for an estimated 150 sq. ft. before completion. However, delays occurred due to illness and cold weather, and the new siding arrived damaged and mismatched. Despite my repeated attempts, Shaun did not return to finish the project, even after promising to address the issues. In the spring, I contacted Xtreme Contracting in Bowmanville. They gave a prompt estimate and completed the job in five hours, with the new siding perfectly matching the existing texture and color. The technician noted that the original materials were the incorrect size and manufacturer. I was highly impressed with Xtreme Contracting's work and choose reputable companies to avoid similar issues. Included are before and after pictures.

Just wanted to say thanks to Shaun (and his team) for coming out today (Feb 2025). I had an issue on my roof which he quickly resolved and also went out of his way to clear any leftover ice in my gutters which were pulling the gutters away from the supports. Highly recommend and will call on him in the future.

Shawn and his crew replaced the roof on my mothers house. Shawn came to inspect and after listening to our needs provided a fair and reasonable estimate for the job. He and his crew were dependable and very courteous to my mother during any interaction. They did a good clean up afterward to ensure no debris left behind. Thanks for the Great Job!

Shawn from Stay Strong Roofing answered my call to HomeStars to identify my concern about a rogue leaf guard which had come free and landed beside my car. Upon inspection, Shawn recognized that the offending guard was belonging to a neighbours' home. Shawn refused to accept any renumeration for his time spent at our property. His efforts are very much appreciated and I recommend him highly.

Shawn and his crew were wonderful all around. They were quick to come by and assess my damaged skylights and gave me a quote that same day. I had three other quotes; however, Shawn quoted me a fair price and provided me with the personal touch by showing up to meet me in person. I did a lot of research before I contacted HomeStars, and had some idea of what was involved. Despite this, I had a company "mansplaining" the whole process. It was as though they wanted to justify the high price they eventually quoted me (almost double what others quoted me). Thank you to Stay Strong Roofing and staff for a job well done.
