Duct cleaning

I contacted Aleem at unique providers based on the good reviews I found online. He was very professional over the phone and explained very clearly the process of how they do their duct cleaning and how powerful the vacuum that they use is. He gave me a promo price of $299 and I booked the appointment. The day of the duct cleaning an old and unmarked truck showed up which I thought was kind of odd but I let them in and one guy began taping the ducts while the other guy gave me the rundown and started to up-sell on furnace cleaning and antibacterial spraying of the ducts. He strongly suggested that because I have kids I should do both and he gave me a discount on both services so I agreed. Total price is $399 plus taxes now. They pulled what looked like a very old vacuum hose from the truck that was patched with duct tape in quite a few spots and I’m thinking to myself “is this the powerful vacuum I was told about over the phone?” As my kids were bugging and I didn’t want to interfere I let let them do their job. After finishing the duct cleaning I watched to see where my extra $100 was going. The furnace cleaning was nothing more than a spray and wipe down of the furnace door cover and drum and the antibacterial solution was a simple squirt of a lemon scented spray into the main duct, really!?! $100 for that. After expressing my discomfort with spending the extra money one of the technicians said he would clean my laundry dryer vent to compensate and I agreed. The tech asked me to run the dryer while he pushed a hose down the dryer vent from the outside where it vents out. Nothing was coming out so he tried a few different hoses and I could see he was getting frustrated and it was getting late so i said to forget it and that it was probably not very dirty anyway. A little happier with the service I tipped the two techs and said good bye. Now came the weekend and when my wife was doing the laundry I noticed that our laundry room was humid and very moist much like being in a sauna. I checked to make sure the lint trap was empty I checked the vent connection at the back of the dryer and everything seemed fine but it was still humid. I traced the dryer vent and noticed that there were lots of puncture holes at the top of the hose where it vents outside. I contacted Aleem (the owner) and let him know what happened. The first thing he did was blame me for not letting him know what his tech was doing on the day of the cleaning, really?!? Not that his tech should advise him, me, the customer, anyways he went on to say that he’s told his techs before not to shove any hoses down the dryer vent. He says he’ll speak to the tech and call me back. No response from him. I call back, he says he’s busy. I call back, he asks for pictures. I take pictures and send them. He apologizes and says he’ll send me a Tim Horton’s card in the mail, thanks but I’d like the dryer vent fixed. He sends his dad and brother to my house to inspect. His brother immediately notices the problem and his dad tells the brother not to say anything in front of me. His dad goes on to blame the dryer and then to say that I’m doing too much laundry. We run the dryer and all of us see that nothing is venting outside. The brother promises to take care of the problem and they leave. I received no follow ups from anyone and I call Aleem again. He says he’s on a big commercial job and can’t speak, he’ll call me next week. That was the last I heard from him. Please if anyone is considering this company for any type of service, DON’T. Being in the service industry myself I am completely appalled at the lack of customer service from unique providers and I have reported them to the better business bureau. I have also had to have my furnace replaced since the “cleaning” the hvac tech noted that the furnace was very dusty inside.

Update: After contacting Aleem once again, he set up an appointment to come and repair the dryer vent that was damaged. I’m very relieved to have this problem rectified, thank you Aleem.
