Mistake fixed

We found a leak in a 1/2" hot water copper pipe a foot away from the hot water tank on Good Friday eve. Unfortunately, our go-to plumber was not available, so we called Mr. Rooter. It was obviously not our day, as the plumber who responded to the call mistakenly decided that the work required several hours of preparations, applied trip charges ($100) and left. The work was completed in 20 minutes the next day by our go-to plumber.

After I posted a review on HomeStars, the next morning I received a call from Mr. Rooter's director of operations, who apologized, assured me that this case does not represent their values and practices, and immediately provided a refund.

It is unfortunate that things went wrong in our case, but I have to admit that Mr. Rooter is responsive and values their customers.

A piece of advice for $100

As my wife put it, summarizing our Mr. Rooter experience , call them to get advice on how to fix an issue yourself for $100.

We found a leak in a 1/2" hot water copper pipe a foot away from the hot water tank on Good Friday eve. Unfortunately, our go-to plumber was not available, so we called Mr. Rooter. A guy who took the call double-checked with me that the problem was not with the hot water tank and warned that trip charge will be applied.

A plumber arrived in 30 minutes. He looked at the problem and said that, despite it was not an issue with the tank, he could not help. According to him, there was high pressure in the tank and it would take several hours to release the pressure to make it possible to solder the pipe. He advised us to buy Sharkbite connectors next day and fix the issue ourselves. Just a side note - it was not a simple straight pipe, it was a knee very close to pipe connection with another parallel pipe going less than an inch away. Than we paid the trip charge and he left.

Well, after he left we just opened a hot water tap in the basement and water stopped coming from the tank in 10 minutes. Next day we called our go-to plumber and he fixed the pipe in 20 minutes. End of the story.

Personally, I will not use Mr. Rooter's service again.
