Dear Homeowner, My name is Matt, and I’m an independent contractor and handyman based in Toronto. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree and a College of Trades certificate, with 9 years of experience working in the construction industry. I love working directly with clients, take pride in my workmanship, and prioritize customer satisfaction. I offer a diverse range of services and skills. Recently, I’ve completed several bathroom renovations, basement remodels, and large fence and deck installations. However, I don’t mind taking on smaller maintenance and repair jobs to fill in days between larger projects. I am proficient in the following skills: demolition, insulation, rough framing, finish carpentry/trim, siding, fences, decks, retaining walls, window/door installations, laminate flooring, all types of tiling, concrete pours, bricklaying, parging, laying pavers, stone walkways, driveway resurfacing and repairs, drywall and mudding, staining and painting, weatherproofing, landscaping and yard maintenance, power washing and cleaning services, and repairing eaves/shingles/flashing. I also perform some electrical and HVAC work, though I have a skilled group of tradesmen who can assist on short notice if needed. Additionally, I guarantee my work with a varying warranty period for certain projects, ensuring peace of mind and lasting results. Q) Why are vinyl windows the best choice? A) Your choice of framing material goes a long way toward determining the longevity and energy of the total window system. Wood windows possess excellent thermal qualities but are prone to weather deterioration and require painting at regular intervals. Aluminum windows are very durable but offer little insulating value because they conduct energy rapidly. A) Argon is a safe odorless, colorless, non-toxic, non-flammable insert that is commonly used in place of air between the glass panes of an insulated Low E glass unit. Argon's heat conductivity is lower than that of air. And thus it is better insulator and contributes to a lower U-factor. Argon is not an effective solar performer by itself: that is why it is only used on conjunction with Low E insulated glass. Q) What is an ENERGY STAR windows? A) The U-factor or U-value is the measure of a window's thermal efficiency, based on its resistance to the follow of energy. The lower the U-factor, the more thermally efficient the window. Most new window technology had been aimed at lowering U-factors through the use of three important innovations: INEX spacer, low emissivity glass coatings and argon gas. Q) What is Low Emissivity glass? A) Low Emissivity glass, commonly referred to, as Low E. is glass that has been coated with a micro-thin metallic film to improve thermal performance. The coating reduces the transfer of heat rays through the glass while still allowing light to pass through. In essence, the coating reflects heat back toward its source. Thus, heat from the furnace stays inside the home during cold weather, resulting in greater comfort and lower energy costs.
