A fine job

Removal of a Chimney Ernie's crew removed a chimney from my house about a year and a half ago. The chew was quick and efficient. My only minor complaint was that they came back a second day, while I wasn't there and finished some work, but didn't tell me. So I thought it wasn't complete for the longest time. It was a minor communication issue, but the work was excellent.

Wilkens is a true gentleman

Brick repair to porch Ernie Wilkens is probably the most honourable contractor I've ever hired. The job involved removing cracked bricks from a 80 year-old porch and replacing them. In the end, it looks great, and the price was very reasonable. Actually, Ernie saved us money by suggesting he salvage some old bricks from an unused chimney, bringing the cost down considerably.

I did have some concerns about some of the work, but Ernie addressed them and refused payment until I was satisfied. He treated my wife and me with honesty, respect and care. I would recommend his company to anyone and everyone.

best work I've ever seen

tuckpointing The entire company is very professional. They will not over sell you, they just honestly recommend what you need. Ernie, the owner, the office person, and Ron who actually did the work were friendly, courteous, clean and on time. The joints now look absolutely perfect. Colour matched too.

Look no further for chimney work

Chimney repair Everyone can see that the reviews on Homestars for Wilkens are glowing. And deservedly so. Ernie was friendly, incredibly efficient and, miraculously, didn't try to push unwanted or unnecessary services on me. I had been told by a less trustworthy chimney contractor that I had a couple of major (and very costly) problems that needed immediate attention. Ernie, with his 30 years of experience, proved to be honest and reliable in terms of the necessary repairs. The man is a gem!

Wilkens is AMAZING

Parging side of house and tuck pointing frame for new window Ernie Wilkens came and gave me a quote in the summer to parge the brick work on the side of my house, and relay brick around a new window. The one man crew showed up early and cleaned up so well I couldn't tell he'd been there. He was patient while I sorted out the exact measurements and the job is VERY well done. He even made sure the cats stayed inside and left the yard immaculate. I would recommend Wilkens to anyone.

Ernie Wilkens Rocks!

Kitchens, tuckpointing, basement leaks I am a realtor in East York and cannot praise Ernie and the Wilkens team for professionalism and honesty. I deal with a lot of seniors and while other people have come in trying to "steal" money from them with contractor jobs, Ernie came in and gave them simple, economical solutions to their problems.

I have referred this company to numerous clients, particularly my seniors who really don't know where to turn when they have a leak. Wilkens is honest and trustworthy. Wilkens is the best!

Tuckpointing

Tuckpointing Wilkens Contracting 'gets my vote.' I'd hire them again without hesitation. Perfect work, perfect service. Polite, knowledgeable, skilled. Mr. Wilkens gave me an estimate 1 year ago, but we didn't want to spend the money on this job at that time. He gave me the same estimate this year. Thanks, to Dave, Ernie, Allan for a job very well done.

Wilkens got the job done!

Chimney Capped and other minor tuckpointing We contacted Wilkens due to the reviews on this site and were one of the few that returned our calls and actually gave us an estimate. We had to wait about a month to get the work done as they were busy - however they did advice us it would be a while when we decided to go with them. They called the day before they came and the job got done. I didn't even notice they had been there except that our chimney was lower and it was capped. We didn't find any debris or extra materials lying around. Overall we are pleased with the work done. No complaints here!

Forgotten Customer

tuckpointing I was very happy with the work done. Ernie Wilkens at first seemed like a very nice man. They did all the work listed on the contract then took care of some small extras that I asked for. When it came down to invoicing me for the extras the price went up tremendously. When I asked for an explaination for the extra charges they just told me that it was for all the extra work I requested get done but Ernie wouldn't give me a break down of how the extras were being billed. I had only asked for a couple of extra little jobs that needed to be done differently. I don't believe that they were worth the $800.00 that he was asking. I offered to pay $600.00 and actually told him if he wasn't happy with that I would give him the full $800.00. He agreed to take the $600.00 so I paid his guys and we left it like that. Recently I called Ernie for some other work that I need done and he said that since I didn't pay him what he wanted before, he wasn't going to do anymore work for me. I don't beleive this treatment is fair. Now I have to call the the other companies that were competeing against Wilkens for the tuckpointing job which was much more work than I need now. They are not going to be happy coming to do this littler job since they lost out to Wilkens on the first job. Wilkens wasn't even the cheapest price I had got, I just gave them the job because I thought that I could trust Ernie to be fair and to provide good workmanship. At least I got 1 out of 2.

Company Response from Ernie Wilkens

“I'm glad he is happy with the work done. My offer of $800 for the extras was fair as it took the crew of two an extra day. He offered $600 and never offered my price. We did the job that I promised, I didn't insist on my price for extras, and I don't feel that it's my duty as a contractor to continue doing work for clients with whom I disagree.”
