Roof work was disappointing and expensive
Leng and his crew had done some smaller jobs on my property - repointing brick, levelling a pathway - that worked out well enough. But the roof job he did ended up costing me extra $4000 to pay another contractor to fix it.
I had asked Leng to replace the rotten wood on the edges of my front porch. Leng's crew hid the rotting wood with strips of aluminum so it couldn't be seen and then, inexplicably, covered up almost the entire eaves trough with the aluminum strips and shingles so that when it rained the whole front porch would be drenched and water dripped down on you going down the front steps.
In the photos (hope these post), the green edge is all that remained uncovered of the eaves trough, and the rotten wood can be seen after Leng's crew finished.
I don't know much about roofing but the contractor I hired to fix Leng's work has over 4 decades of experience. Here's part of his report on the work Leng's crew did.
"The recent roof installation has caused water to shed over rather than into gutter ; this was due to the fastening of an aluminum piece nailed to the sections of the original crown moulding, most pieces rotted and some missing.
As seen in the photos, there is significant rot in the wood."
Repeated calls to Leng achieved nothing. He would promise to come by "to discuss" but never showed up. Once he sent a crew member who claimed the roof had been done perfectly. He said they would come back to talk about the eaves trough, but I didn't hear from them.
TIP: Don't pay cash, which Leng might suggest, ostensibly to give you a lower price. You'll have no paper record.
