“Good final result, but costly surprises We hired this contractor through HomeStars to renovate two bathrooms for $4,500 CAD plus materials. The final result looks great — new tile, marble, and fixtures — but the process added up to significantly more than expected. The contract did note that hidden damage found after demolition (water damage, framing, plumbing, etc.) would be quoted separately, so once issues came up we felt we had little choice but to accept the added costs — first for water-damaged wood under the shower base, then for new shower glass after the marble didn’t fit with the old frame. We also had to repaint damaged walls and fill gaps between tile and drywall ourselves. Contractor of course offer to fix damages created by them for $350 Overall craftsmanship is solid and we’re happy with how the bathrooms turned out, but I’d recommend asking for a firm cap or very detailed inspection before signing, since “hidden damage” clauses can open the door to a lot of extra cost.”
