Alarm System

Approximately 6 months ago , the system Reliance installed started setting of panel alarms up to 8 times a day. The alarm box is in our kitchen. There was a message that the system was having modem failure . I phoned Reliance many times and was assured in May that `we will have installer in Winnipeg repair your system and that I may need a booster to up the signal to this so called modem`` This is Sept 5 and I have still had nobody come to my home and the panel alarms still go off on a daily up to 8 times a day basis. To add insult to injury they are still taking monitoring fees from my bank account . STAY away from dealing with this company. You will just open the doors to months of stress and their `` I do not care attitude ``.Since this review - Reliance has done me well AND rectified my situation . Thank you

Alarm system

I got a call from this company and they offered me an alarm system which included 1 keypad (already had 2 installed from previous company) and an intercom system for 25 dollars a month. The installation was 75 dollars and they offered me 6 months free. I liked the deal so I took it. The agent on the phone told me someone would come to install the next day. I waited the next day, but no one showed up so I called the head office to ask what the problem was and they contacted the technician who went to the wrong address very far away from my house. However, someone came to my house shortly after to personally say sorry and offered free installation as a way to compensate, and he explained the system they would be installing to me. The next day the technician came on time, and finished his work quickly. However, after he left I noticed that one of the doors did not respond to the alarm system, and I called them to fix the issue. The next day someone came to my house and quickly fixed the issue. Everything has been good for over 11 months now.

Home Alarm

Do not sign a 3year contract with ADT.

I installed ADT in 2012, but the equipment and wiring was already in the house, they just had to connect it to their monitoring system. When I moved homes after a year, they wanted me to take the contract to my new home or sell it to the new tenants, but in that case, I'd have to renew it for another 3 years.
The penalty for cancelling the contract was 75% of the remaining time which summed up to be $ 903.38. How can such a large company be profiting from not providing a service or equipment? It is insane! I haven't ever dealt with such a dishonest company and they make it all look legal just because you "signed a contract".

Security System

I purchased this system around 2010. Initially I was impressed due to a couple of false alarms, burned toast etc. The alarm worked well. When I decided to move it was a different story. When I signed up for the 5 yr contract I was told moving would be no problem, but now I am told I will have to sign up for another 5 yr contract or pay $1700 cancellation fee for my old address. I have been in my new place for a month and still have no system installed, but my credit card is still being debited the monthly fee. I have called several times but I am just getting the run-around. I am not happy any more with this company and wish I had never signed up with them, never again.

Reliance Protectron Commercial Service

I own a business in Camrose, AB. I contracted with this security company in November. We were broken in to last week and their system failed. A passerby on his way to work called the police to let them know the front door was shattered. It wasn't until police were on scene, walking around the store that the motion sensor went off. I called the company and got some young woman with a big attitude. She told me flat out that what I was telling her was not true and that it was impossible that the alarm hadn't gone off. I explained several times that it was THE POLICE that set the alarm off, and she kept insisting that was impossible. She then said they would have to investigate and she would send a tech. I told her "fine", send a tech and remove their equipment from my store because I was terminating the contract immediately. I asked to speak with a supervisor and she said there wasn't one available and someone would call me back. No tech ever arrived, nor have I gotten a call back. My new system will be installed this week. I am telling all of my customers, friends and family never to use this company. I have never received such poor customer service in my life.

Alarm and service

Bought incentive showing free equipment if signed for a 3 year term

Battery failed after one year. Customer service says equipment is not on warranty only monitoring service is. Not I have to purchase a new battery and figure out how to swap it out of a metal box next to electrical panel.

Alarm Coverage

We've never really had any problems with Reliance Protectron for the 7 years that we've used them. We opted for police and fire response and we've only had one false alarm. We're so glad we went with the fire response because SOMEONE (that being me) left the oven on and forgot about what was on the oven. There was smoke everywhere, firemen came very shortly after the alarms went off. Customer service has been really good. Their response time is quick and the technicians are sent as quickly as possible.

Alarm contract issues

I have had this alarm service for 8 years. I initially signed a 3 year contract, and they installed various alarm hardware parts for free. At the end of that term, I signed for yet another 3 year contract, which included more alarm hardware parts to be installed for free. I completed that term as well.
Someone then called me about arranging to meet to sign a contract again, as the term was up. I told him I would now pay month to month, as there was no reason for me to sign a contract again. He told me that wasn’t allowed. After much back and forth between us, he convinced me to sign again, but I told him I would sign but for one year only, as we were just starting to look for a new house. He said he would send the papers out in the mail, I should sign and send them back.
Well, I never got any papers in the mail, and never heard from anyone again in the two years since. Imagine my surprise when, because we were now moving into our new house, I phoned to cancel our service and was told I had to buy out the remainder of a 3 year contract!
I told them I had never signed a contract, but they argued that I had VERBALLY agreed to it over the phone and that was as good as a signature. They had recorded the call, proof of my agreement, so I had no choice but to pay up. I knew I hadn’t agreed to 3 years, and told them so. All arguments fell on deaf ears, and I finally told them to produce the tape so I could hear it. I was sure that once the conversation was heard, they would not be able to charge me for a contract that did not exist.
No tape was ever produced, but I received a bill for $146.76, for contract cancellation. This was less than the remainder of the contract, but I have no idea how they arrived at this number. A mere 40 days after getting that bill, I started to receive calls and letters from a collection agency. Reliance Protectron themselves never contacted me again. Now in fear that this mess would be a mark against my credit rating, but against my better judgment, I paid the bill.
I am still in shock over the whole thing. How Reliance Protectron treats their long term customers is appalling. I was not someone trying to get out of their initial 3 year contract. I understand the necessity behind chasing down someone who does that. In that situation, the company needs to recover the costs associated with the hardware and installation. Heck, I can even understand that if someone has signed a 3 year contract that they should have to pay a cancellation fee if they wish to end that contract early. But I was not in either of these situations. Instead, this company has invented a contract that does not exist to get that last cent out of my pocket. I was a long term customer who had paid their bill every single month without fail for years, and this is my reward.
Years and years ago, I had my garage broken into and stuff was gone. I did not feel as victimized then as I do now. I truly feel like I have been robbed. They invent nonexistent contracts and they use fear by threatening your credit rating to get you to pay bills that are completely unwarranted. They should be ashamed of themselves for using these tactics against hardworking, honest people.

Home Alarm and Monitoring

Reliance came to our door to sell us a home alarm package with monitoring. We were sold 2 room sensors, Co2 detector and wall unit as well as 3 door sensors. Reliance installed the items, however over the winter the door sensor batteries would freeze and would give a low battery warning. After numerous visits one of the techs said replacing batteries just leads to same issue, he put in an internal door sensor which can be seen but it works. I wont even get into the poor service from the monitoring company. You will always get automated calls and get cutoff when trying to get a hold of someone there. One time the fire alarm went off due to come cooking, and I called thru the panel, to have them not call the fire department. I got acknowledgement to not send the fire dept and they still came. As well when the alarm went off, usually they will call thru the wall panel to ask if everything is ok but they didnt.

Overall, dont buy an alarm from Reliance, as they dont know their product and the monitoring has quite poor service.
