We had a metal frame basement window that was badly rusted out. Access to the window was also badly impeded by a deck that surrounded and covered the window (poor planning). There was an opening in the deck approximately 30 x 12 that allowed light but as i indicated extremely limited access. The window proper also had a storm window type covering that also had to be removed. Definitely not a pleasant or easy job.
We had several persons out for quotes to remove and brick it in using glass block to still permit a measure of lightthey wouldnt touch it!
I then thought of Andrews Restoration. We had used them in the past for some other work and were extremely pleased with their work.
Grace and Robin worked with us going far above and beyond with their efforts to understand our problem and what we wanted to do. The 12 glass block we wanted to use proved to be difficult to find but these two ladies it seemed never heard the words quit or cant do it.
We had a back-up plan using 8 block but they knew it wasnt our preference. They didnt give up and managed to track down a supplier in Torontobut the supplier wouldnt ship (kind of figures doesnt it?)
I offered to go and pick it up but Grace picked it up herself saying she was in the area anyway. You cant beat that kind of effort and consideration!
Robert was the stone mason that came out to do the work. A giant of a man at 67 tall. He had an incredible can do attitude and was a genuine pleasure to have in our home. He diligently and meticulously worked to get out the old rusted frame, prepped the area and did a beautiful job on the install, working mostly from the basement inside. He did the kind of job one would do if they had the skills, knowledge, abilities and equipment to do it themselves!
Even the area impeded by the deck was done beautifully with Robert laying prone on the deck to reach in and work. Talk about dedication to your trade!
As for debris removal and clean-upit was like they were never there. Indeed incredible respect for our propertyand I am a fussy kind of guy.
We even lined them up for work on some other larger jobs on other family members homes without any hesitation whatsoever.
Thank you guys. Excellent work!!! I know who my first call will be for any future undertakings requiring your considerable expertise.
