I do not recommend Artech to anyone looking for drafting services for a residential reno.

Our reno project was very extensive. Initial quote from Artech owner for a set of drawings was reasonable and within expectations ($1900). I asked the owner if that was the extent of drawings cost, he answered that it could be slightly more. Suggesting the amount would be small, if anything.

At 90% completion I received another invoice, more than doubling the cost to $4100.

Explanation from Artech owner was that he misunderstood what we wanted and he underbilled us at the first invoice. I fail to see how he misunderstood, I was very clear the job was a complete gut and addition. Drawings should reflect that level of work and he agreed. In my opinion, a misunderstanding would be a couple hundred dollars extra. More than doubling the bill from $1900 to $4100 did not make sense. Nevertheless, pressed for time, we paid the bill to get our completed drawings and moved on.

During the reno, it became apparent that the measurements within the drawings created by Artech were erroneous. This caused walls to be misplaced and room sizes to be off during the reno, costing additional time and money to fix.

It is very difficult right now to find a drafting or architecture company willing and able to do drawings as everyone is so busy. I would recommend waiting for another company rather than settling for Artech based on my experience with them.

I called 10 companies on list provided by city of Moncton. Many would not quote or not call back. Artech manager picked up first call, asked straight questions and gave estimate over phone. Actual bill was slightly more than quote but it took more time than planned. Enjoyed working with them. They were patient as I don't ever do building rents that require city permits. I would certainly recommend them.
