Mortar removal and replacement

We hired Sweet Pool Restoration in March 2017. The job was approximately $2,000 tile fix for the top tiled area just under the coping of our inground pool. Robert removed and bagged our safety cover and emptied the pool. His crew chipped all the broken mortar under the coping, replacing it with caulking instead to provide flexibility during the seasons as we discussed.
Robert was initially friendly during the sales process. We agreed to the price and he and his team completed the job. We paid in full upon completion. Then we started to see all sorts of damage that wasn’t apparent at first.
Careless damage to the pool itself: Robert’s team screwed wooden scaffolding directly into the concrete marbelite pool siding. The after result was additional cracking and screw holes that were very visible after the pool was filled with water. Robert said that he told us his team would use scaffolding. True. But he did not make it clear he would screw wooden board scaffolding directly into the marbelite side and that this would cause permanent damage.
Messy job site: using our pool scrubber to sweep up the mortar/tiling debris, leaving his materials on our front lawn for days.
Damage to our brand new $3k pool safety cover: Robert’s team removed and bagged the cover in the spring to do the work. The cover was stored in our house as advised by the company we purchased it from. When we took the pool cover out in the fall, we noticed a series of noticeable burn marks as though someone had place a hot tool (or cigarette) on top of it once it was rolled up. We can get it patched for ~$300, but now it will have noticeable patch marks. Robert claims over email that, despite not having seen the damage himself, he is sure it is mice that caused this despite no evidence of chewing or mouse droppings and the edge of the holes clearly indicate contact with a hot item (see photos). This is careless and disappointing and yet consistent with the rest of the job management. We told Robert of the damage to the cover and the estimated cost to fix it. Robert quickly became: defensive, belligerent, mocking, and denied any involvement. Not once did he offer to view the damage to discuss it professionally in person. All contact took place over email since he did not return our phone calls.
We do not recommend.
