Roof and Attic Repair

Two years ago, I needed roof repair to fix ice damming problems which caused water leaks into my house. After talking to various roofing repair companies I decided on Academia Roofing because they were prompt. They came right away and performed a very thorough check to find the root and cause of my problems. They explained to me in detail the cause of the problems and was very direct in recommending solutions on what's needed to be done. Since the installation of a snow box, trays, icing cables and re-sloping the gutter I have not had anymore water leaks nor ice damming problems ever since.

Academia Roofing performed a second major repair to fix my attic due to the builder's insufficient insulation and poor grade vent installation. Again I was very pleased and satisfied with their work.

I have found Academia Roofing to be extremely knowledgeable in their industry. Because they take great pride in their work, they are reliable and professional thus have made me a happy and loyal customer.

June, you left us with a very warm and fuzzy feeling after reading what you wrote about us. We are forever in your debt. Last week The Goverment announced that our occupation was the worst one to be in next to lumberjacks, However client's like you make it all wortwhile. If they ever take my heart out and transplant it in another person I gurantee you he/she will become a roofer.
Thank-you June it will always be a pleasure to serve you and the family.

New shingles, roof insulation and ventilation, eavestroughs for house and garage

Three years ago my wife and I took a chance on Academia Roofing based on a chance referral - and were not disappointed! Ww were a little nervous at first because of a possible upsell (I thought we only needed new eavestroughs!) and because of a slight delay in starting work but we have an older house and it made sense to do a systematic, complete job in one go -- one that will last us a generation (or more).

I appreciate the time taken to explain the challenges, options, rationale and progress of our job each step of the way. We chose the highest quality materials, and a team of courteous and diligent Academia Roofing pros worked all week on our house (watched every day by retired neighbours on both sides of me, who were quite impressed by their work ethic).

IMHO, it's worth paying the premium for quality materials, quality workmanship, and the peace of mind that goes with them. Academia Roofing -and the co-owner Gordon Bailey in particular- even took care to circle back to us each year since to ensure that we were satisfied with their work. They even did a minor touch up on the flashing three years later (three weeks ago) or free. That's conscientiousness, and it's pretty rare these days. Their work has been noticed on our street many times and I would recommend them without any hesitation.

Roof repair at my own home and at my income property.

Gord is reliable, answers his phone and definitely returns all missed calls usually the same day if not by the next morning. His crew shows up on time, are curteous, get the job done on time and clean up after themselves when they leave. His pricing is reasonable and he will stand by his work with respect to a warranty. He is happy to provide his insurance and license info upon request without giving you any attitude whatsoever. We happily recommend him to cients.

Roofing, soffits, facia, gutters and replace attic insulation

We contracted Academia Roofing to do a complete replacement or repair of everything above the eves of our house. It is a typical 1970’s back split. The job consisted of removal and replacement of shingles, plywood, new roof vents, new vented soffit, fascia, eve troughs, leaf protector, removal of old fiberglass insulation and replacement with cellulose, installation of bathroom fan and kitchen exhaust and removal of an old TV antenna tower.

At first glance the price we were quoted seemed high but we were comparing it to a simple roofing job. When we priced out all of the extra work being proposed it was actually very reasonable and it was one contractor instead of three so it made it much easier for us.

The work took place on the hottest week of the summer and I fully expected it to go slow but they showed up with a very large crew and all of the proper equipment to do the job quickly. Joe the foreman on the job was excellent and very responsive to any concerns I may have had. They were all very professional and we where very happy with the quality of their work and our roof looks great.

Since the completion of the work we have had one or two minor problems but they were dealt with quickly and the same day as we called. This past winter there was a very bad windstorm and many roofs in our area were damaged. Our roof was fine except for one small piece of aluminum came loose. The interesting thing was that I didn’t notice it, Joe the foreman made a point of driving past all of their previous jobs to check for damage. I didn’t know about it until it was already fixed, at no charge. That is service!

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Academia Roofing to my friends.

Major roof replacement:conventional areas and flat areas, attic insulation upgrade, eavesthoughing and downspouts, skylight, brickwork and other minor items around the external house

Gordon came very highly recommended to us by friends of ours. They pointed out that in one case they know of (a neighbour of theirs), some money was actually returned to the customer because the work was not as extensive as originally estimated. Have you ever heard of such a thing from a contractor? Anyway, our work was done as promised, in the quality, time estimated, and cost quoted. Nothing extra was charged, for doing a few extra things which he said he would do. Small bonuses, perhaps, but showed that he had pride in a comprehensive job done well. What impressed us the most was , like in almost any job, is what happened when something did not work out as planned for various reasons. When this happened to us, an entire aspect of the work was redone, which took almost a day to redo, He made sure we were completely satisfied with the work and nothing was left done below his high standards. What is perhaps most important in these kind of jobs is, what happens when something goes wrong. Gordon has reassured us by doing those things, that he is trustworthy and reassuring and will be there to stand behind his work.

Dr. Stern, what a kind and thoughtful review and we thank-you very, very, much. What I was unhappy about was the way the soffit vents were installed and to remedy the situation we would have to trounce over all the new insulation thereby compromising the R-value as cellulose as it is very hard to fluff back up after. You were paying for a proper job.I could not blame the men as they installed the soffit vents as shown on the packaging, however, I previously taught them a better way to install soffit vents that allows far more positive air flow to enter the attic. After we installed new soffit vents the way I had previously taught them and had completely reblown new cellulose into the attic, it became much cooler. This was a very expensive way to do business and taught the men a lesson in listening. I am sorry for the inconvience to you and your family but there is a phrase" It is not how you start that counts, but how you finish.

3 roofing jobs and a kitchen reno

Over the last ten years I've hired Academia to do 3 roofing jobs and also a kitchen renovation. Gord Bailey consistently delivered top-quality work at a fair price; he did every job as if his future livelihood depended on it. This sort of "old school" dedication is all too rare these days!

Thank-you Ted you were very patient and loyal. I was very happy to hear about the compliments you recieved about the kitchen, I guess the roof is too high up to appreciate but as long as it lasts and never leaks, I am happy. Always there for you, God willing.

Attic Repairs

Gord Bailey and his crew fixed a moisture problem in our attic caused by poor ventilation. His crew was fast, clean and professional and I was very pleased and impressed. The work involved the removal and replacement of insulation, as well as the opening of existing vents and installation of new ones. The work was performed all in a day or two, working long hours. The work was performed in 2007 and we've had no issues since. The house now holds the heat a lot better than it used to. I recommend Academia Roofing.

Rob and Jessica you both were great to work for and it feels great to be appreciated in an Industry where the Government calls it the worst occupation to be in alongside Lumberjack's. Thank-you

Skylights

Six years ago I had Gordon Bailey and Academia Roofing come to my downtown home in Leslieville to install three skylights. They came strongly recommended to me from a colleague of mine and I was incredibly impressed with the work that they did on my home. Gordon and his crew were thorough and transparent and their work was masterful. They did a brilliant job on my home, completing it on time. Moreover, when I needed to have a report written up about the current state of my roof, Gordon inspected my roof and provided me with a report, free of charge. Academia Roofing went well beyond the work that they were paid for and I highly recommend them to anyone.

Ada, thank-you for a prompt review after our request for one. We are very pleased that your roof still looks new and proves that our work does and always will" Stand The Test Of Time". We also thank "CertainTeed" for making us look like we know what were talking about when it comes to product knowledge and longevity. Even when we know a customer is not our customer because their BUYING PRICE and not the JOB we tell them it is in there best interest to use only CertainTeed.
