Replace Roof

FIND ANOTHER ROOFING COMPANY!
We had our roof replaced in August 2013. The salesperson was pleasant and provided a competitive quote. The product and process sounded the same as other companies. We chose Merit as they answered all questions at the beginning. The roof was installed a couple weeks later in a day and a half. Then the problems started.
We did a shake to shingle conversion so there was an expectation that flashing would be left exposed; however, they put in no effort to make it look nice. It was twisted and sticking up all along the roof line. We complained and someone came out to fix it. It's still ugly but serviceable. Then winter came and bigger problems.
The installers moved the furnace stack around while installing the shingles (again, expected), but they moved it so much that it disconnected in the attic. So our furnace was now venting into the attic. The installer would have known that the stack was moving easier than it should (would have been very wobbly) but nobody told us to check the attic for problems. Winter came, the furnace exhaust condensed in the attic, frost formed, it melted and our ceiling was ruined in multiple spots around the house. We're still dealing with insurance.
Merit denied any responsibility. They didn't even send anyone out to inspect the damage and see what they could do for us. Some warranty. We're out the insurance deductible and can look forward to higher premiums for years to come.
What started as trying to be proactive by replacing old shakes with new shingles to prevent leaks turned into a nightmare by causing water damage.
I RECOMMEND YOU FIND ANOTHER ROOFING COMPANY.
