Action Home Services had very good reviews on Homestars and thats why I decided to give the work to them.

Eugene quoted $1700 but when he came to get the deposit, he decided it was not enough and wanted $2100 . I told him I got quoted $1850 by another company and he wanted to match it. So I gave him 20% deposit in mid Jun, he was supposed to start work on Jul 10, he did not, saying the rain has made him behind schedule.
He promised to get the work done and I waited, many times not getting any updates from him. On Aug 8, he said he will get the work done within a week, but 2 days later he called to say $1850 is not enough and he wanted to cancel the job and return the deposit. He says he has the right to cancel work because he has not taken any money from me. He argues that the deposit he took is not money. No where in the contract says he has the right to cancel work when he misquotes. I've encountered tradespeople who would honour their contract even when they think they have misquoted. And I had to go after them for a week to get back my deposit.
