Overall satisfied with the job done, with one qualification. The job entailed repairs to three interior door frames (doors were not hanging properly). I didn't ask for the frames to be totally replaced, only asked for the hinge side to be repaired on all three doors. The carpenter (Pablo) was able to fix one fairly quickly, the other two took a day each. He showed up when expected and the job took about as long as expected. Also I was able to get the job scheduled fairly soon after contacting the contractor.
Pablo was very efficient, skilled, honest and trustworthy. A nice guy. He didn't waste any time. I was told I would be charged $45/hour and the final invoice amount pretty much corresponded to what I expected, as far as labour.
But as for materials, the amount was considerably higher than what I expected. Also the invoice didn't itemize the precise materials so I couldn't evaluate precisely what materials were used and why the cost was so high. From what I could see there was some lumber and trim purchased, some hardware was used and perhaps a few other incidentals (wood filler, etc.), but to my view the cost for these materials would have been only about 50% of what I was charged.
At the outset, I was told that the job was too small to give an overall estimate, and the only option was to pay the carpenter hourly plus materials. In retrospect, I would have insisted on an exact quote or at least a high-low range so I could evaluate whether or not the price was fair and whether or not I would hire the contractor.
Anyway, as I said, overall I'm pleased with the job. A little miffed at the non-itemized materials charge, but at least it didn't break the bank. Four stars out of five.
