Initially hired to fix roof vent, drywall repair, deck repair, fill cracks on outside wall and most importantly repair front patio with concrete.
The roof vent and other repairs were done properly. However, he lacks basic tools like a ladder. I had to get a ladder with 20' extension needed to reach our two-storied house roof. Since he had work on the roof, I asked if he had needed workplace insurance. He never responded and I wrote an SMS saying that I had to assume he had one. Still wasn't sure if he did.
However, after seeing his workmanship in using concrete to repair cracks, I stopped additional work. He knows very little, if at all, working with concrete. The concrete patches he put at the bottom of outside walls were extremely uneven, as shown in the photograph. Now I have to break such patches to make them look better.
Recently our driveway and walk paths were redone with expensive paving stones. The leftover concrete near the patches were not cleaned and left ugly residue on the paving stones.
He is a friendly person. When he was being instructed, he often mentioned that he was a civil engineer in Iran which I thought was of little consequence to me. At some point I told him that he was talking to a retired professional engineer of Ontario when he stopped saying the same.
I would think that he is probably OK with easy and simple jobs like painting and assembling furniture and so forth. For anything that needs skill, such as concrete repair, he is not suitable.
