Our furnace stopped working last night. Apparently so did a lot of people's. After calling around to find a furnace repair person to come out same day we got around to Laird & Son who had installed the furnace in 2005. He arrived within a couple hours, did a quick diagnostic then left to buy a venter motor. He was back a half hour later and installed the motor. All in all it was quick but not cheap, The service call itself was $165 which was higher than some other quotes but I didn't really want to wait in the cold till someone else could come. The venter motor was another $580 so after tax the bill was $841. Expensive, kind of, but happy to be warm again and really happy we didn't need to replace the furnace completely. Friendly, quick, efficient service.

I had bought a coupon towards duct cleaning from 360 Duct. 360 Duct was next to impossible to reach and did not return my messages. I even tried to get my money back, then I finally reached them. They were late, they missed an entire duct and the intakes. They told me that I needed the furnace and the A/C units cleaned too but I suspected they were shoddy given their lack of professionalism and not worth spending any more money on. They certainly were not trying to impress me. After I turned my furnace on, later that day, puffs of dust and dirt came out of the vents. I woke up the next morning with a terrible sore throat which turned into a cold. I decided to check Homestars and find the most reputable duct cleaner and have them come and do the whole system. Beware of the coupon deals, you get what you pay for and nothing more.

Vahn was very informative, helpful and thorough. He spent more than three hours going around, over and through the house. He did his assessments, then explained his findings during the inspection itself. The next day he sent a 76 page document that explained in detail all his findings, with photographs for clarity. The document described the most important to the least important concerns and contained several references and links to further describe and clarify his findings. We felt more confident buying our home knowing what to expect, what to fix, and when to do it. We will definitely recommend Vahn's Solex Group to others. We felt it was money well spent and we appreciate the work that went into his inspection and the very thorough and descriptive report we received so quickly which will be a personal home reference manual worth keeping and consulting. Thanks Vahn!

Thanks Cynthia, the review is much appreciated. I still shake my head when I hear people tell me their last home inspection took 1.5 hrs. I call that "just looking around". A detailed and thorough home inspection takes about 2.5 to 3 hrs on a small to average size home....just my two cents. All the best with your new home Cynthia.
