Really puzzling how there are so many 10's on this site, but also a number of 0's and 1's and 2's. It started yesterday when we awoke to find our furnace not working. It would start up, then after a min or two, shut down. So I called Clear View who we had out last summer to refresh our air conditioning system (after paying them $3500 for an air cond. service, furnace and vent cleaning, and "service plan" ) The technician showed up in the afternoon, very friendly and "helpful" guy. The first thing he did was pull the air filter out and it was black with dirt!! (My bad...this has happened once before) He then stated that the "heat over limit switch had kicked off a number of times and it probably overheated the circuit board, and it would all need to be replaced. I could pay $784.00 to MAYBE fix the heat sensor, or $2272.00 to make SURE it worked. But REALLY what we needed was new furnace (our is about 15 years old )....of course we should have a new electronic air filtering mechanism and on and on... So I left him unsupervised to "check out" the furnace. FORTUNATELY....while he was in the furnace room "analyzing" the situation, I happened to stumble on this website, and started reading some of the negative reviews that were posted. Well...20 mins later he comes into my basement office with a quote. MINIMUM $784, but PROBABLY $2272.00. Also he advised that the fan had a horrible vibration ( I couldn't hear it ) and that it should be replaced as well as the motor etc. Was told that the heat sensing trip switch was very expensive - but he had "reset" it, but it probably wouldn't run the furnace for long. Needless to say, I was flabbergasted at the prices. I told him I wanted to get another quote or two. Thank God it wasn't -20 outside !! So after paying him $235 for diagnostics, and not getting anything fixed (remember I'm on a "service plan" ) he left, but not before warning me that there could be cracks in the heat exchanger and that our 4 year old Sears hot water heater could suddenly discharge and spill 50 gals of water on the floor ( see other review that states this as well )...he left telling me to call him when I was ready for the repairs. This AM at 8:30 AM as promised, another technician ( who is also rated very highly on this site 9's and 10's) showed up at my door after I researched others on this site. He spent a little over an hour on the furnace, showed me the heat sensor ( BTW it can't be "reset" it just turns on and off when it cools)...and said I could replace it if I was worried about it...I asked how much and he said $50, so I had him replace the switch. He then said I had a mild vibration in the fan, got underneath the furnace and tightened two nuts, and voila...no noise. THEN after all this, he shows me where the technician yesterday had CUT THE GREEN WIRE TO THE THERMOSTAT, so of course, the fan would stop after he left !! I could not believe what I was hearing and seeing. In a nutshell, I paid this guy today $213.00 and got MORE than I would have received had I paid Clear View a MINIMUM of $784.00 and PROBABLY more like the $2272.00 he figured it would be !! In the company comments attached to all the negative reviews on this site, they maintain they have a certain "overhead" and pay top notch qualified technicians to do their work, and they do not apologize for their prices. They say they are neither the lowest OR the highest pricing than their competitors. ( I haven't found ANYONE higher than them ) I do believe it paying for quality but this is obscene !! I guess what I am most ripped about is the fact that the fan wire was cut so it would not work. NOT broken - CUT. The technician this AM showed me the crimp marks on the wire !! THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKYOU for this website !! It literally saved me THOUSANDS of dollars that would have needlessly been spent. Now I have a perfectly running furnace. Funny how all the negative comments seem to have a VERY common thread to them...

WOW...where do I start? After having another well-known plumbing company rated on this site come and "check out" my furnace for not running yesterday, they gave me a quote for anywhere from 784.00 to MAYBE fix furnace, to $2272.00 to FOR SURE fix it. Overlimit heat sensor acted up because of a dirty air filter. I told them I wanted to get another quote. When they guy left he said it probably wouldn't keep running for long. So last night I called Brent at Shiftair, and he promptly arrived at 8:30AM this morning. After spending an hour checking the system out, and REPLACING the heat limit switch he charged me a TOTAL of $213.00 including travel, service call, labor, AND the heat switch !! So by calling Shiftair, I paid $213.00 INSTEAD of $2272.00 !!! Now THAT is what I call a difference in quotes !! Brent also showed me where the technician yesterday had cut one of the power wires off under the furnace, so the fan would stop after he left. Hmmm....BBB or Homestars....I think I've said it all here. I 100% recommend this company !! I've got enough left over for a VERY LARGE steak dinner tonight. Great job Brent
