Review from HomeOwner Review left on 28 Feb 2011Rating: 5 out of 5John and his team installed Quiet Rock Drywall to muffle sound on the adjoining walls of our semi-detached house. Our house is over 100 years old and the walls were extremely thin, particularly in the bedrooms. We were pleased with the results as now we have more privacy in our home. We appreciated that John was able to begin the job immediately and complete it within a few days. John’s team always takes extra care in protecting the carpets and they do their best to limit dust and dirt throughout the house. We have enjoyed working with John on many projects in the past and look forward to future ones.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner
Review left on 25 Feb 2011Rating: 5 out of 5Custom Cabinetry and Landscaping
I originally hired Oborne Contracting for some custom cabinets around the Fireplace, TV and in the Mud Room of our Toronto home. The entire process, from booking the work with the office, to the demolition, to the very last day, was a smooth and easy process. Colin, the Project Manager, was very knowledgeable and skilled when it came to the work and finishes. They made sure that, at the end of the day, the areas were clean and tidy, no “construction garbage” was ever left in the house after they were gone. The project did take longer that initially discussed, but that may have been in large part to our changes and extras. John and his crew made living through a renovation doable. Our next project was fully landscaping both our back and front yards. John managed the crew from Iberia Landscaping Ltd. so we didn’t have to. He had lots of great ideas and we really valued his input. All experiences with Oborne Contracting have been great and I will definitely hire them again!!Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner
Review left on 24 Feb 2011Rating: 5 out of 5Millwork detail, pot-light installation, painting
We had a few things that we wanted to add to our home. Some column trim detail, the addition of some potlights and some painting of a few rooms. We really didn't want to use anyone other than Oborne Contracting since we had a good experience when they did our renovtion a few years back. I was concerned that this job might be too small for Oborne Contracting. John found a way to fit us into his schedule and sent a crew out to do the work. This was a different crew than our renovstion, but they had the same courtesy and professionalism that we have come to expect from this contractor. The did the work cleanly, accurately and at a very competitive price. Thanks again John!Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner
Review left on 31 Jan 2011Rating: 5 out of 5Kitchen renovation
I interviewed several companies prior to beginning this project. I mapped out exactly what I wanted and what my budget was (I totally blew the budget later but that was my own fault). I had my appliances chosen weeks earlier than I needed to. I has swatches and color schemes, I was ready for this major undertaking. All I needed was the contractor. What impressed me about John was he the only contractor who took photos of my old kitchen, looked at my layout, asked questions and then made his suggestions. All the others started with what they thought I should do. If you want to see photos of my reno I have them posted on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/daavq13/sets/72157624725791586/ The renovation went longer than expected, 5 months, due to the mad renovation rush before the HST kicked in. As a result the cabinets took much longer than expected, we ran into issues with the joists, the plumbing needed work, the ducts needed to be moved, the appliances were delayed... On and on it went. In all of these issues, John and his team were present, attentive and available. They answered my concerns, addressed the issues when they came up. And most of all treated me fairly. That doesn't mean I got everything for free but John was very upfront and honest about his costs and the way he worked. Even months later, when I had an issue with plumbing that didn't involve Oborne contracting they were there to help me with since it threatened to damage my new kitchen. There are lots of contractors on this site that do a good job, lot's with pretty pictures and gushing testimonials, but when push comes to shove you want a contractor what will be there when you need them... that's Oborne Contracting.Answer from pro:

Review left on 27 Jan 2011Rating: 5 out of 5Expansion of entranceway, foyer, and living room
John and his team did an excellent job on our foyer expansion. He knew all the right trades who also did excellent work. The work area in the house was sealed off to prevent dust getting all over. We're very impressed with the quality of the work and ideas John's people came up with to solve our house's problems. Overall, we're very happy and would recommend Oborne Contracting to anyone looking for renovations.Answer from pro:
Thank you for the review, we enjoyed working on your project.

Review left on 4 Jan 2011Rating: 5 out of 5Complete Solarium Rebuild and Kitchen Upgrade
Oborne Contracting recently removed and replaced our rotting solarium, which is located in our kitchen. In the middle of this 8 weeks + project, when demolition and investigation of water damage was done and we knew there weren’t going to be any surprises, we added a mini-kitchen renovation, which included the removal and replacement of countertops, appliances and sinks, partial reconstruction of a wood island and the installation of a backsplash. I don't think that we can say enough about how great Oborne Contracting is. All renovation is stressful, but the complete overhaul of your kitchen, when you have a young family is especially so – we were very nervous about this job as our previous experiences with contractors were less than stellar. But we shouldn't have been. Everyone at Oborne was so professional, considerate and helpful that the experience was far less intrusive than we imagined. From our first consultation with John to our every contact with the individual workers, we could not have been happier. Every night when we got home, the house was clean and tidy and progress was obvious. John, Ken and Colin offered us thoughtful suggestions and proposals that improved our original design and really enhanced the finished product. Colin and Ken were easy to talk to and extremely responsive to all of our questions. And, best of all, the final product is beautiful. It took us a long time to find a contractor who does great work, is trustworthy and whose pricing is reasonable and transparent. We have already spoken to the team about our next project and are looking forward to getting started!Answer from pro:
Wow! What can I say? Fantastic project great clients. Thanks so much from all of us at Oborne Contracting for the review. We loved working for you guys despite the fact you have such a strong loyalty to the Montreal Canadians (Ha Ha! go Leafs go). Understanding you had concerns about the renovation process based on earlier experiences, we expected but never once felt you were overly involved or micro managing us, thanks for allowing yourselves to trust us and complete this project freely. A project always runs as smooth as the owner allows it. We're looking forward to working for you on any future projects you may have. Again many thanks John Oborne

Review left on 29 Dec 2010Rating: 5 out of 5Partial Kitchen Reno
After the contractor I hired flooded my floor and ruined the gable panels on the peninsula in my kitchen and took off, I started looking for another contractor to come in and repair/finish the outstanding work. After contacting many contractors, John was able to come in and finish the job. He came and did an estimate and his guys were professional and quick with a great eye for detail. I'm calling them back to give me an estimate on my floor and backsplash.Answer from pro:
I always feel bad when I see "contractor gone bad" projects no matter how big or small the job, especially when the clients are so nice such as in your case. It was clear to me during our first meeting that the previous contractor had very little skill and the fact he was coming back on you for his final installment proved to me he was also a crook. I see this a lot, it's a shame. Although a small project, it was no less satisfying. It was a real pleasure, thanks for the business and we'll see you soon to complete your other requests. John

Like so many homeowners in Toronto, I searched a long time to find an affordable home in a great neighbourhood. Both my home and the community have character. Of course, character comes with quirks, and there are plenty of quirks in my home. So I consider myself incredibly lucky to have hired John Oborne and his team to save the charm in the home while improving livability. I knew I wanted to work with John after seeing his company's workmanship on another old home. He and his crews are all about attention to detail - not only finishes, but how work proceeds: they are dependable (on the site every day), professional, clean and tidy, and respectful of neighbours. Having lived through a painful kitchen reno once, it's a delightful contrast to work with all of them, and in particular, my fun, easygoing foreman, John "D" and his sidekick Carlin on a regular basis. I would readily recommend Oborne Contracting to others, and already have.Answer from pro:
Thanks Laura, we all realy enjoyed working for you! Your up beat personality is infectious, are you ever sad or mad? Not the easiest of homes to work on but it's looking great. We would love to work any time for you again in the future and thanks for the recommendations. Regards John and the gang at Oborne Contracting.

Review left on 3 Nov 2010Rating: 5 out of 5Porch
We started out with an enclosed porch, which we wanted to turn into an open one. As my husband started taking off siding and so on, he realized the porch was almost falling off the house. John's team completed the demo, and completely re-built the porch from scratch. We are very happy with the quality of workmanship and we have received many compliments on how beautiful it looks. Also, each day the site was tidied up, and at the end of the job, the site was completely clean. Dean did most of the work, and did a really wonderful job. He was always friendly and courteous and considerate. After hearing so many nightmare stories about renos gone bad, we had a lot of peace of mind throughout the job and we have confidence that there won't be any surprise problems popping up in the future. We still have the rest of our house to renovate and we will definitely be calling John again!Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner
Review left on 12 Oct 2010Rating: 5 out of 5Main floor reno
I had intended on posting this feedback some time ago, but like many new home owners, after buying a new-to-us (my wife and I) house we found ourselves caught up in the endless tasks of moving, cleaning, painting, moving furniture around again and again... But enough about me! When purchasing our home my wife and I knew we wanted to change the main floor layout. Our plan was to knock down some walls to create an open concept on the main floor. We knew we needed to find someone we could trust. After hearing comments and horror stories from friends and relatives, and watching the Holmes show I was stressed out about moving forward with our reno. I strongly believe in forums that allow the public to share feedback and opinions (heck, that's how I found the salesman from whom I bought my car; but that's a story for another day), so finding Homestars.ca was a godsend. This is where our experience with Oborne Contracting begins. I contacted a few contractors for estimates; at the time we had not taken possession of our property yet so we were required to visit with our real estate agent. Well in comes John and the team from Oborne Contracting. John worked around our availability and dropped by the property at the scheduled time, introduced himself and quickly got down to business. He looked over our plans (being a business analyst, and naturally uptight, I had drafted up some floor plans to illustrate our vision); he took pictures and measurements, told us what his feelings were, what he knew, and what he needed to dig into further before providing a 100% accurate estimate. John sat with us and gave us a quick presentation on Oborne Contracting and the job as he saw it. My wife and I left to deliberate for a couple of days; during this time our real estate agent, who is a high-service, high-touch individual, contacted us to see which contractor we would select. We informed him we were going to go with Oborne Contracting and he noted that he himself was very impressed with John and the way he represented his business. This to me was comforting noting that my real estate agent is a pitbull when it comes to business and has a keen eye for spotting BS. We signed with Oborne Contracting after a fleshing out a few details with John. My wife and I were on site every evening painting other rooms in the house so we had the opportunity to see the work in progress. The crew started on the day as agreed to; and they left the site tidy every evening which was great for us. The work progressed quickly and consistently; and the job concluded on time as agreed to. The end result is fantastic, the room looks great and the workmanship is second to none. I couldn't be more happy with how things have turned out, and equally important for me, finding a contractor that I can refer to family and friends, and call back for additional reno's is a huge plus. Thank you John, Colin, and the team at Oborne Contracting!Answer from pro:
