Main floor drywall - ceilings, some walls & patchwork

My husband and I are doing renos on the main floor of our 1930s home and were looking for a drywaller. Among the people who quoted us were those with exhorbitant prices, and others who were clearly disinterested because ours is a small place, and for some, too small a job. When we contacted O'Borne Contracting, we were impressed because they called us back immediately to let us know that they were at capacity when we required their services, however, they did let us know when their schedule was open again and offered post-regular work hour options. We booked an appointment with Damian Lindsay for a quote. Damian is an honest, hardworking, professional. He arrived on-time and did a walk around with us, giving us ideas and listening to what we wanted. When he provided us with the quote, it was clearly broken down by area (living room, dining room, hall area and den) and he provided us with a timeline as well. Damian explained things clearly and took the time to make helpful suggestions, and he put us at ease with his soft spoken, easy going personality. We were so comfortable with Damian, that we left him our home key with anytime access while we were away for a 10-day vacation, and another week's hiatas away from home. The work progressed on schedule and when we returned, it was just as we had imagined it with very minor adjustments to be made. As we had agreed, Damian installed new drywall wall and ceilings where needed, and installed a support beam in one of the areas. He as well installed crown molding and was kind enough to pick it up for us since it wouldn't fit in our vehicle. He also primed the work areas he installed and was considerate in cleaning up the workspace whenever he left our home. Damian worked tirelessly to get the work done for us as soon as possible, and was a pleasure to work with. He did have assistance from Tyrone who was equally pleasant and hard working. We have recommended Damian and his work to others, and will most definitely use him going forward. At the end of the job, we were pleasantly surprised when Damian kindly took away some additional reno debris from our front porch and even washed the floors. It really made our day. Sincere thanks to Damian and Oborne Contracting for a job well done.

    Office Renovation

I hired Oborne Contracting to do a small renovation at our office. The timeline was tight and the crew could not work during regular office hours. John quoted fairly and delivered on time; on budget with minimal disruptions to staff. Colin and his crew were exceptional. The cleanliness of the site was particularly noteworthy. There were no problems and my original instructions were followed perfectly. Highly recommended group!

    Answer from pro:

Thanks Allison, glad your happy. This was not our first project together and i'm sure it's not our last. We appreciate your continuing business, what's next? John

Kitchen, Bath, Basement & Front Porch Reno

We had our kitchen and bath completely gutted including taking down 1 1/2 walls and new stairs built in the living room. We also had the laundry area in the basement completely finished as well as a new railing/picket built on the front porch. We lived in during the entire 4 months of reno and had complete peace of mind throughout the entire renovation process thanks to John and everyone at Oborne including Colin (Foreman), Dean, Damien, Wally & other crew members. They were exceptional and so amazing to work with! They are 100% professional, courteous, and was always approachable and open to new ideas/changes. Any additional trades that were brought in also did a great job and John & his team ensured that the work was done right! Whenever something came up that wasn't planned/anticipated (which happens with any reno), they were quick to fix the problem and was always willing to work with us to find a solution. Often they went above and beyond what was quoted. Unlike many reno horror stories that we have heard of, they were right on time & on budget which is something we truly appreciate! Aside from the great service, the quality and workmanship was exceptional! We are very picky and pay attention to all details but they met and exceeded our expectations. From the preparation stage to protect the property, to demolition, construction, to the finishing details, they always ensured that we were happy with the results. At the end of each day, they always ensured the place was cleaned up and properly protected. Overall, we are extremely happy with the results and thank them for all their hard work in helping us transform our house into a beautiful new home. We have and will continue to highly recommend Oborne Contracting to people looking to have renos done! THANK YOU OBORNE!!!

    Basement Lowering

We had Oborne contracting lowering and repave our basement floor earlier this year. We found Oborne through Home Stars. When we bought an old house, we initially we wanted John to quote on painting and flooring. However, he was willing to give us the contact for his sub-contractors to do the job directly. Because we liked the work the subcontractors did and because John was willing to give us the contacts, we decided that when it was time to do the basement floor (it was old, cracked and leaking), we would call John. Overall we were very pleased with the service, work and attitude of everyone involved including the workers (Roy was our foreman). They were very courteous, upfront about costs, and what had to be done. The job took shorter then we thought or planned and we were pleased with the results. The only reason I did not give a 5 was that during the process of construction they forgot to reattach and redirect the condensation pipe from the air-conditioner which lead to some water dripping into the basement. However, they were more than happy to come check it out and fix it asap without charge. We would definitely consider John again when it is time to finish the Basement and would not hesitate to recommend them.

Thank you guys for taking the time to write a review about my company and the men who work for it, the kind words mean so much to my men and to me as a business operator. So often in this industry we are faced with challenging jobs and difficult and demanding clients that it can become troublesome to be or be motivated. It seems the smoothest jobs are always the jobs where the clients trust us to do our job and they give us the space to do so. This job went as fast as it did because you trusted us to do our job. Unfortunately there was that minor over sight, but once brought to our attention it was addressed, and we are sorry if it caused you any worry. It was a pleasure to work for you both and I am looking forward to adding you to our long list of happy clients, and working with you on any future renovations. All the best John

Kitchen Backsplash and Range Hood Installation

After reading many positive reviews online about Oborne, I e-mailed them for an estimate for a backsplash and range hood installation. The price was competitive and reasonable. I was quoted for 3 days work and the timeline of what was to be completed each day - it was very accurate, and after those 3 days, I was left with a great looking kitchen, and now I can cook and finally have the aromas vented to the outside. Thanks again, I would definitely give Oborne a call again for future renovations.

Thanks Jim. It was a small job, but I never forget where I have come from in this industry "the small ones are just as important as the big ones". Glad your happy, enjoy your kitchen and we hope to work with you in the future John

    Skylight Drywalling

John's group did the insulation, drywalling and painting on the completion of a skylight we had had installed. Drywalling is a dirty business but they kept it neat and confined to the room in question, and did a great job cleaning up at the end. There were no surprise extras, and they kept us informed on timing. They didn't forget to put in a vapour barrier (important). On top of all that...it looks great!

Thanks Corrie for the repeat business it's always been a pleasure to work for you. The positive review means a lot. Looking forward to your next project. Stay well John

    Partial basement reno

Nobody likes to have workman in your home, making noise and causing disruption. However, Oborne Contracting is the way to go if you want to minimize the headaches associated with any reno job. This was a relatively small job for them, but they worked with us to ensure that the end result was what we wanted. We now have a wonderfully functional laundry room and plenty of out-of-sight storage in the back room. We now can't remember the way it used to be!

Thank you for the kind words. It was nice to work for you and we hope to hear from you in the future. All the best John Oborne

    Basement renovation

On a friend's recommendation, we decided to hire Oborne Contracting to complete a gut renovation of our basement, gutting right down to the brick foundation and rebuilding it with modern amenities like a working washroom and vapor barrier and stuff. This turned out to be an excellent, excellent decision. It's not enough that the work just be done well, you know? That's to be expected. When you tell your friends how a renovation went, you don't just say "everything is to code, yay." There's a lot of little things that can make the whole experience either completely painless or totally agonizing, depending on how they go. As our job progressed we got to see a lot of attention being paid to details big and small, in ways that we really appreciated. At the end of the day the job site was always clean. All the people we spoke to were courteous and professional, every time. Any questions we had either got answered or got forwarded to somebody who could answer them, and those answers always came back. When they weren't sure what we wanted, they asked; a few small changes were easily done, one or two bigger changes were made by getting a revised estimate and a signing off on it, a process that John Oborne laid out before we began that worked out pretty well. The quality of the work done was great, and we got to see a lot of care being put into things that are now hidden behind the drywall and that we'll likely never see again, which is awesome. But let me tell you, the best part is the stuff that Oborne Contracting _didn't_ do. They did not suddenly stop returning my calls. They didn't stop answering the phone or get halfway into the demolition before disappearing for weeks. They didn't change estimate on me or weasel out on materials or schedules. When I had any problems, I never got told that it wasn't their problem; it just got fixed. So now I have a basement that I'm quite pleased with. I'm ridiculously happy with how the construction went, and considering what was down here before, it's hard to believe it's the same basement. So in a year or so when we decide to renovate our kitchen, we're probably not going to bother calling anyone else.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you for the kind words Mike. It was so nice working for you and your lovely family. As my men always say its easer to go that extra mile for clients you like, and they all really loved working for you. Hope you and your family enjoy the new space. If there is ever anything else we can ever do for you, it will be our pleasure. Regards John

    Basement Renovation

John Oborne came out several times to consult on different ideas we had for the basement. He gave us a quote and was able to start immediately. His team was exceptional! They were knowledgable and efficient and our basement looks beautiful. We are going to have more work done in the future and will definitely go through Oborne Contracting again. We would happily recommend them to anyone looking to do any renovation, big or small!
