Cost of termination of how water rental. Insane!

Stay away! Bought a house 8 years ago which came with older tank. Decided to resume hot water rental. 5 years later it caused a flood in the basement (which happens) so they installed new tank. Not knowing, the new tank came with a new terms (not old terms). 3 years later I call to cancel rental. I am told that I need to pay out $900 for the USED tank which includes costs for the life of the new tank. This includes unused financing and services. Services? what services?? It get's installed and sits there for 15 years. Total cash grab. I can buy a higher capacity tank of the same brand for $500 to $700 new and with 6 year warranty from a home building store. Makes you wonder what Enercare's wholesale price is. Enercare estimates the payout value of their tanks to be 1% to 2% depreciation per year! Anyone else knows that if you've used something for a year, your value would go down much much less than 1 or two percent (as per manager's explanation). So why am I paying so much more? I have no problem payout out something if the terms are layed out CLEARLY and fairly. However in this case I am appalled at the expense to close out my tank rental service. And I am overwhelmed by Enercare's unwillingness to really hear my viewpoint and make any efforts to close this case fairly. Truly disappointed.

    Furnace maintenance and humidifier installation

The technicians who performed these jobs were polite, efficient and professional. They explained everything they did, fixed some issues that were not planned and included in the original plan with no additional costs, all in a fair and competitive pricing.

    Furnace repair

Terrible. No customer service. Do not take the Protection Plans. Waste of money (almost $400). I would never recommend Enercare to anyone else: 1) The problem with my furnace was not diagnosed on the first visit. Technician complained of feeling tired. 2) Second technician was grumpy and bitterly complained about the first technician (foul language) and insisted the problem was obvious (motor not working). Did not have the part. Ordered the motor. 3) Part arrived the third day. But no appointments that day. Fourth day appointment technician did not show up. NO PHONE CALLS ever. No reason given. 4) First call centre person (Rohan) just hung up. Second call centre person (Jacenna) was totally unhelpful. Apparently no supervisor. Booking another appointment was tough yet again. Would only give another appointment for the following evening (another 4 hour slot). No idea if it will get fixed tomorrow. FIVE NIGHTS WITH NO HEAT. As I write this, the issue still has not been fixed and no explanation as to why it is taking so long.

    Horrendous dispatch customer service

First of all, I have no issue with the actual technician or his work. Isaac was wonderful. It is the dispatcher/customer service line that was an extremely bad experience. Our furnace quit this morning so I called at 7:30 am to ask for a service visit. I had to sit through at least three different attempts by the agent to sign me on to their one-year plan ($260 for unlimited service calls, parts/labour). (I personally don't believe they're necessary for a fairly new furnace.) She asked me several times to repeat my information even though I know the line was clear and I was speaking slowly. It was more like she was distracted. Then when we finally got to booking my appointment, I was again put on hold. Several minutes later, she passive aggressively said she had to check with someone else how to book a simple service call — because I was her first-ever customer who declined to buy the plan. Long story short, my husband stayed home for the 11 am-3 pm window she promised. No one came so I called back. There was NO RECORD of an appointment. I spent at least 20 minutes on the phone with this woman and she didn't even book our appointment properly. I was livid. When I asked what Enercare would do to make up for their mistake and the inconvenience, I was offered — a small discount on a one-year service plan. It was insulting. Why would I want to lock myself into service for a year, when 1) they can't even get a simple appointment right, and 2) actually step up to offer me something to keep me as a customer. Even if it was $10 off my service call, it would have shown they cared about customer service. Even though the technician himself was wonderful — he replaced a broken igniter in the furnace — the company's "customer service" on the front-end has turned me off them for good.

    Furnace Maintenance

This testimonial is for Paul Antoniak - service representative @ enercare. Paul is a competent professional. He was respectful, not only to me, but to our home too. He explained the service process to me before he started and when the work was completed, he made recommendations which will be important for the future. At the end of the service visit, Paul reviewed the checklist of what had been done. I was very pleased with how he did this - his communication skills were excellent. To conclude, if Paul shows up at your door on behalf of enercare, I am certain you will be in good hands!

    Hot water tank

Our hot water stopped working at the start of Thanksgiving weekend. I expected to be without water for the entire long weekend. I called Enercare, they arranged for a technician to come the same day. The technician was prompt, even on thanksgiving weekend, and quickly fixed the issue. Thank you!

New install of water heater, furnace and a/c unit

Glen from Enercare set up an appointment time to go over my furnace, water heater and a/c unit. My furnace was 20 years old and my a/c unit even older. With the rising cost of electricity, I needed a more efficient system. Glen was on time, very professional, had all of his credentials and pricing clearly and legibly laid out. He went over the pros and cons of owning and renting. The rental price was on an extended promotion and I was able to get the premium units for the middle of the line cost, just $119.99 per month for both the furnace and the a/c unit (plus $19.99 for the water heater which I was already renting). I am also getting back $650.00 as a rebate. We booked the full install for one week later. The installers Vincenzo and Simon called before they came and came on time. They laid down padded mats on my floor so not to damage my house. They were very professional, tested all of the equipment and cleaned up everything before they left. Nothing was left for me to clean up. Very impressed and would recommend Enercare to anyone. One last thing, for the first time since I owned my house (5 years), I have actual hot air coming from my bedroom vent (top of the house, furthest room from the furnace room).

Enercare doesn't allow consumers to cancel protection plans

Despite repeated calls and emails, they refuse to acknowledge the cancellation of my monthly plans for heating and cooling. They say emails can take up to two days for them to receive and want ME to call back to make sure they received it and refuse to call me back. Horrible, bureaucratic service!! Almost one year after my original call to them, and plan STILL not cancelled!!

    Furnace repair/protection plan

After being with Enercare (previous direct energy) for 5 years with a furnace protection plan, I decided to add an AC plan as well. What a huge mistake! After adding it, my next bill was just over $500 when it should have been $29.99 plus HST. It took 3 supervisors and over 12 hours of phone calls before manager ROSE informed me all was fixed and it would be adjusted on next bill. Well next bill is here and still over $100 and once again no one can or seems to care to explain why. I have contacted the MP, BBB, Energy board and hopefully will have this settled this way. I encourage everyone to also check reditt and see the nightmare stories about this company. If you are looking for a headache and many hours on the phone, go ahead and give Enercare a try!

    Furnace service

I would like to share my experience. I was looking for a maintenance for my furnace. Natural gas unit therefore I decided to go for a professional service from Enercare. These guys can come only during their working hours (sure) which is not so much convenient for you). I was not at home when this guy came to my house but my wife called me to be back home. I came home in 5 minutes and my wife said the guy has already left (5 minutes!!). He did not tell her that the service is complete nor the description of the service. When I went down to my basement I discovered that that guy installed MY OWN FILTER without my permission! He also put new service sticker on the furnace with the expiry date in a year! I was shocked - so poor service! But what I figured out later - in a year that company used my credit card for a regular annual service without asking me!! Poor service!, poor customer service!
