HVAC Service contract - Total failure by Enercare

In mid-February when the temperature dropped to -40C, the furnace failed and I received a call from the person who oversees the house when we are away. I immediately called Enercare and was told that since pipes were frozen, it couldn't get worse, so they took 18 hours to respond. By this time, all plumbing was frozen solid and copper pipes bulged and burst. The first tech determined that there was a melted flange at the fresh air intake of the high-efficiency furnace and patched it saying that a new flange would be delivered to our house to be installed. The flange arrived 2 days later and another tech came to install it. She determined the cause for the failure to be a cracked secondary heat ex-changer and red-tagged the furnace (at -40C outside temperature) and shut it off. We had several electric heaters plugged in to warm the area. [Question: why didn't the first tech find the real fault?] The replacement secondary heat ex-changer arrived the following day and I called to ask them to install it. When I was told it would be two days hence, I asked, in shock, "Are you for real?' and the person at Enercare simply hung up on me. The furnace is a Trane which is now 8 years old - it was purchased from and installed by Enercare, as well at a Carrier air-conditioner purchased and installed by Enercare about 3 years ago. In summary: 1 - Enercare failed to do emergency service in a timely manner, resulting in maximizing the damage to our house. When I spoke with a "supervisor" after having their receptionist hang up on me, he admitted that they "dropped the ball", but no remedial action was taken, nor was a technician dispatched earlier - I still had to wait the 2 days to get the heat ex-changer installed. 2 - Damaged to our house, fortunately well insured, exceeds $70,000; all plumbing had to be removed and reinstalled (all pipes, all faucets, some PVC pipes. Still to be determined damage to appliances (e.g., ice maker in refrigerator). In order to open the walls and ceilings to access the plumbing, tests of the walls revealed that they contained asbestos, which required a special haz-mat team to set up containment areas. 3 - Other HVAC services have told me that their mandated response time is 3 hours, not 18 like Enercare. Another HVAC shop who just performed the annual service told me that there was evidence that Enercare had not properly cleaned the system - the blower cage fan was very dirty and the flame sensor was also not clean [Enercare had serviced this in February 2016, 3 months ago.] I do NOT recommend Enercare.

    Generate maintenance (AC & Heating)

The service was good. Booking online and by phone needs improving. Online indicated error but when we called was OK. Telephone call center called back to book after appointments had been completed. Please note the cost includes a follow up visit and we included in our maintenance package.

    Plumbing of main water valve

All it takes is one phone call and a representative comes over. It eliminates all the worry when there is a plumbing problem when you know you can call Enercare and they take care of it in a timely manner.

Warranty for furnace and air conditioning

I purchased a new furnace through another company 3 years ago. Yesterday I called to book for cleaning my A.C. equipment which is covered under a warranty plan with Enercare. While talking to them I mentioned my furnace does not have extended warranty and I would like to have it also covered for parts/service etc. They were very polite and informative and gave me a package to cover everything at a very reasonable cost. All my dealings have been very good with office and technicians. They give fast and efficient service.

    Routine Maintenance

My furnace maintenance guy was early, he tried all my numbers to contact me and waited until I said it was ok to come in. He put on his indoor booties even though it was dry outside. When he was finished I asked him some questions and was very pleased by the answers I was given. Unfortunately I did not get his name. Please extend my kudo's to him. Nirmala

    Boiler

I have used Enercare for years. Both Randy and Andre were very professional and knowledgeable. They took the time to explain my boiler to me and were very friendly. I would not hesitate to use Enercare again and would definitely refer them to friends.

Replacement of Condenser in Air Conditioner

When we contracted to rent a new furnace and air conditioner the service technicians installed both however, from day one the air conditioner was not functional and required a brand new condenser to be replaced. We recently contacted the service department and we were assigned a new technician "Jeff Reid" who did an amazing job for us. He was punctual, extremely knowledgeable and also very personable. He took the time to explain what was happening and answered all our questions with no hesitation whatsoever. We were really pleased with Jeff and we feel confident that if we ever have a problem in the future that it will be well handled by staff like Jeff. The initial experience left us wondering why a brand new air conditioner was defective and because of it being November and the inclement weather involved we would have to wait until the spring to have it repaired...we thought they might just replace the unit since it was brand new. This unit actually belonges to Enercare and we are renting it and that is why we could not force the issue about replacing the air conditioner. Jeff has assured us that the unit will be just as good as a brand new one and my dealings with him give me some comfort and confidence in that statement.

Hot water tank valve replacement covered by Enercare protection plan.

Quick service response and the people are great. No complaints whatsoever. This is the second time that I've had Jared K. (Service Technician) do work at our home ... excellent and polite individual. Work completed in a timely and professional manner. The total cost of this repair was $250.00 but actually cost me nothing since I was covered by the Enercare Plumbing and Drains Protection Plan. Thanks again for a job well done.
