Heating and Cooling Protection & Maintenance Plan

When I bought my home, I signed up for a heating and cooling service and maintenance plan. At the time of sign-up I was not informed of any restrictions. When my AC broke down Enercare refused to service it because they said they would not work on the roof. This came as a great surprise as the maintenance technician- who had been servicing the house for years always went to the roof to do maintenance. It turned out I needed an entirely new AC unit. A difference company's installer came to put the AC in. Half-way through the job he showed me a huge problem. The furnance had cracks in it. The cracks were so big I could see them with my own eyes. He said I could have died of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. After this scary incident, I decided that the Enercare Maintenance plan was not offering me the protection I needed and in fact they were putting my life in danger. Over 30 days ago I called to cancel my service and get a refund for the dangerous position I was put in by a technician who should have never given a pass to my systems. I have called back multiple times. Each time, I am told that it needs to go to a supervisor, but that I cannot talk directly to this person. My case has yet to be resolved. This is terrible customer service and breaks multiple laws. If I do not hear back soon, I will be taking Enercare to court. I do not recommend their service protection and maintenance plans. They have cost me money, put my life in danger, and done nothing to resolve the situation or offer me my money back.

    HVAC Installation

Installers were here on time; Took care to protect the house while they were here; Worked continuously while here; Kept us informed on their progress; Seemed to be professional in their work; Cleaned up after themselves when done - Everything you would want from an installation team.

    Air duct cleaning

The technician did a good job. The home was not left messy. He came in time. He explained the process step by step. The equipment used was quite modern. Overall the job was well done.

    HVAC Services

This is my 3rd appointment made with Enercare for totally different reasons and as before, the appointment showed up during the time slot I was given which I so appreciate the service gentlemen, Phil, was extremely polite and very professional. He took the time to examine the problem taking apart my gas fireplace piece by piece and eventually found what the problem was and fixed it. This way I did not have to order a new part and wait for its arrival and then book another appointment for its installation. I appreciate the knowledge and quality of work he performed on this day.

    Maintenance and protection plans

Enercare (previously Direct Energy) offers protection plans and maintenance plans. I was sold a maintenance plan for my gas fireplace at $14/month with taxes, on top of my protection plan for the furnace and air conditioner. The name "maintenance plan" is misleading. It should really be called an "inspection plan". For $168 / year, the technician is authorized to look at the fireplace, to see if everything is ok. I wanted him to tell me what was wrong with the igniter, but I was told that this would require an appointment, with a minimum charge of over $100 and that parts would be on top of that. I could not get the technician to do anything more than stare at my fireplace with his arms crossed over his chest. I called Direct Energy and I was told that this is exactly what I paid for. I asked to cancel the Fireplace Maintenance Plan, but I was told that I had a contract until the end of the year. Once the plan expired, I took my business elsewhere. The protection plan is pretty much what it says (they perform maintenance or repairs on the furnace and air conditioner), although the quality of the technicians varies considerably from visit to visit. I got better consistent service elsewhere.

    Water Heater Service

My hot water tank malfunctioned in the middle of the night. I called Enercare and was advised on how to proceed in addition to booking an appointment. The technician was on time, knowledgeable, professional and courteous. The repair was done quickly and efficiently.

    HVAC Service

The technician had an excellent understanding of the system and was able to diagnose and fix the sticky valve problem. A definitive explanation of the cause of the problem was appreciated.
