    Water heater install

I never give a top score to any survey. But the technicians that installed my new rental water heater were excellent. The service was excellent and I am a happy Direct Energy customer.

    AC & Furnace Installation

Our home is over 30yrs old and have been living there for about 14yrs with an old retiring Furnace and AC which was over 20+yrs, but still running. Having a young family, we decided not to take a chance during winter months when the furnace might die on us as we were told by many technicians that both our AC & Furnace was ready to retire. So we took a decision to make a change and upgrade The benefits: new, energy efficient, no fear of breakdowns, no more maintenance fees, great feature if selling your home when everything is upgraded and mostly peace of mind.. These are our comments for the salesman and installers: 1.We were very pleased with Alan (salesperson) who was very friendly, courteous, helpful in the decision making and understanding our needs. 2.The installers- Jeff and TJ were excellent, they were punctual, addressed all needs & questions, friendly, always willing to accommodate and did an awesome job in installing and explaining how everything works. We are so satisfied with our purchase and hope to be a valued customer.

Water Heater Broken- No Hot Water Emergency

Saturday our water heater brokedown (leaking) it was 18years old, no big deal. Called Direct Energy to get a replacement. They were quick to schedule someone to come look. Though they knew it would need replacement they did not simply send someone that could perform the work with a replacement tank instead sent someone to inspect. Inspector came and was on time as scheduled. He noticed we had an issue that our water heater and furnace were both going to our chimney and the lining was only 4" instead of the now required 5". Fine, furnace is also 18 years old. Solution was to redtag the furnace; it's August don't need it ASAP but I did need hot water ASAP, and get someone in to cap the gas and the vent to the furnace. All good. I was told I'd get a call next morning to get someone in to do the water heater ASAP as I said I would not commit to an AC and Furnace without getting multiple quotes. Also the free swap of the water heater would cost $135 to ground the gas line and cap off the furnace - silly they are trying to make a larger sale but it's a big company so whatever. No call came in the morning to get someone in to do the water heater but sales did call right after the service/inspection man left to come see us first thing in the morning. Sales agent came in worked out a furnace and A/C quote. NOW THINGS GET MESSED UP! I'm told they could have a team in the next day to install everything (water heater, furnace, AC) but not just the water heater. First I'm told it all has to be done at once and that the option to cap the gas and exhaust for the furnace can't be done so that the water heater can be installed separately while I get other quotes. I said that I was told it could be done by capping the furnace from the tech. He got on the phone and confirmed I was correct but that his team couldn't just do a water heater tomorrow even though they were available. Rational is their labour would be too expensive on just the water heater and I would need to wait until Tuesday 3 days after first call) - which I'm told is great since originally they had me booked for September 2nd (10 Days after first call). After that cancelling everything went pretty smooth and everyone I spoke to at Direct was friendly and sympathetic to my issues - thus I can't give them a 0 since I dealt with a lot of good people. When I spoke to someone senior on Monday I was informed they should have arrived with a replacement tank on the first visit since no hot water is an emergency case. Maybe I just got bad communication or under informed employees but my trust was broken that they could respond in the dead of winter should a furnace go down so I'm taking my business elsewhere. I just wanted to share this story in hopes it helps someone else push for what they are supposed to do in a no hot water situation which is have a replacement tank on the truck ready to install when they come to inspect. My approx cost is based on 18 years of rental minus the original value of the water heater (approx.$1,000) in 1996 the rest was insurance they would be there in an emergency which they were not.

Direct Energy went out of its way to find a spot in the schedule for us to make a quick service visit when our hot water heat bit the dust. The installers were especially careful, clean, polite, knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile for us. Excellent Service.
