Great for service on heating and plumbing issues

I have used these guys a number of times since moving into my house in east Vancouver a year ago. They are great. They keep appointments. Their technicians are always polite and knowledgeable. They explain they work they have done and the work is always top notch. I expect to be a customer for many years.

    Humidifier installation

I have been using Milani on Kingsway in Burnaby for a few years and have always been satisfied with the service they provide. 4 years ago they installed a high efficiency furnace and a tankless hot water heater and I've been very happy with the result. Recently they replaced my humidifier, the technician they sent out was excellent and again I'm satisfied with the result.

    Gas heater repair

My gas heater stopped working and I tried to get someone to fix it fast. I called a couple of shops around noon time and they told me that I had to wait at least a week before they could send someone over. I called Milani instead and they sent a technician over within a few hours! The guy was courteous and professional and I would call them again for sure the next time when I have plumbing/heating issues.

    Exterior Drainage

After going through a number of contractors (to resolve a leak in my basemen) who did not call back even though I used "contact us" on their own websites, somebody suggested Milani . . . great suggestion. I originally contacted them in December and they did a drain tile flushing. The awesome thing was that they responded immediately and showed up the same day, did the work and left. Unfortunately, it did not resolve the problem. I called again and they responded promptly, did some more investigation work. I was provided with a written estimate the same day and they started the work the next day. They did the work and left, the lawn was top dressed with top soil and seeded and the driveway and street were power washed. the incredible thing that notwithstanding some unexpected challenges they stuck to the original estimate. The workers were professional and obviously cared about the work they were doing. I would not hesitate to recommend Milani to someone with similar problems,

    Bathroom

We remodeled our bathroom. They did a great job on the plumbing. They were professional. They knew what they were doing. I used to hear stories about not experience plumbers but they were definitely experienced The price is very good.

    Sloppy work; would not recommend

I did not like the service we got from Milani. I know their quality of service varies widely because it all depends on your particular installer, but in my case he wasn't very good. We had him install a new whole-home shutoff valve and a freeze-proof hose tap. The end result is ok, but sloppy. He dripped a LOT of solder all over and didn't clean up all of it. He forgot to install a rubber washer in the shutoff valve, which caused it to leak, which he didn't notice until I pointed it out. The freeze-proof tap was not installed perfectly vertically; it's at a moderate angle facing towards the door right next to it, which, again, he didn't notice. Also, the flow rate of the freeze-proof tap is much less than the old one, which would have been nice to know ahead of time. It's so weak that it's barely usable in the garden anymore. The actual quality of his work (in terms of soldering joints, etc) seemed pretty good, but considering his poor attention to detail in the other things mentioned above, I do wonder about his workmanship. So again, it's functional, but sloppy. I wouldn't recommend Milani. Although I have heard some good stories about them, it's really a toss-up as to who you get as an installer and how good they are. I would much rather find an individual plumber whom I can trust every time. Or, in my case because I am fairly handy, I'll just learn more about plumbing and do it myself.

    Answer from pro:

Dear Eric, We are not happy to hear that you had an unsatisfactory experience. One of the benefits of being a Milani customer is that we stand behind our work to assure you receive full value for your dollar. Unfortunately we were not able to identify the service call or the technician from the review you posted. Please contact us directly and we will make this right for you.

    Repair Gas Hot Water Tank

Called Malani during regular business hours to repair what I assumed to be a faulty thermocouple on my 8-year-old gas hot water tank. Dispatcher was very professional - took down information about the tank, said that there would be $180 charge for the first hour and $98/hr thereafter, said they'd come sometime during 12-5pm and that I'd get a call 30 minutes ahead. Within an hour, they called and a technician arrived. Technician was very polite and got down to work immediately. Problem was with a limiter switch but asked if I wanted the thermocouple replaced at the same time. I agreed. Everything was done within an hour. Service charge of $180 seemed a little excessive ($90-120 seem to be the norm) and the parts were marked up by over 250%. E.g. Charged $24 for the thermocouple. Retail price at Home Depot is $8.99 (Honeywell 24" Thermocouple Model Q340A 1413). I completely understand mark-ups of 100-150% for this type of service. They must buy, retain, transport, inventory and deliver parts used for service. But marking up parts by more than 250% is excessive.

    Clogged Drains

I had a drain line that hadn't been looked at for over 24 years! The pipe had never been exposed from the wall. Realizing that this was beyond my skills, Milani fixed the problem. They were prompt in arriving (within half an hour) The call service was excellent and asked for all the specifics before the technician arrived. He was finished within the hour! I was very happy with their service.

    Plumbing repairs

The original repair work to the toilet and kitchen faucet were not done to our satisfaction. However, the company followed through and returned and did an excellent job. The second technician was competent and explained the situation extremely well. We are very satisfied with the ultimate result. The Company demonstrates its integrity by its willingness to guarantee its work and fix any problems.

    Radiant heating boiler

Originally had called them out to fix a leaking pipe. Since it was behind The boiler we agreed to install a new boiler and hot water tank. Was told it would take 3 to 4 days. It took 7 days, I later found out that this was the first boiler unit of this type the installer had seen. (First red flag) They first suggested I get an indirect hot water tank that would work off the boiler. I chose not to as I wanted them to work independently of each other in case of a malfunction. (Thank God I did this). As a result we were without hot water only for a day as opposed to the 7 days it took to install the boiler. Day 7 I come home from work to find nothing had been done. I called their office and asked that they come back and finish the job. They came back that night and completed around 2300 hours. (Yay we have heat) 0700 hours following day I wake up to a spraying sound and find the boiler room and garage flooded. They claim it was not there responsibility as they were connecting to existing pipes in the floor. Fine, just please come back and fix it . I was going to call my insurance but Milani advised me not to. It was fixed later that day although I had drywall damage and possible mould. This was performed at my cost. 1 month later and I wake up to the same scenario and more drywall damage. I'm standing by as I write this waiting for a response from Milani. If they use the existing pipe excuse again does this mean that it is impossible to reconnect my heating? I usually withhold 10% to any contractor for 30 days, this time I didn't based on Milani's good reputation. I learned that none of these people should ever be trusted. (I don't believe it's intentional, but due to our society's lowering of standards across the board. We are becoming use to substandard workmanship and little or no customer support) Hope you all have better luck; Opsman6
