    Urgent bathroom fix

A short story. On a Sunday last November my shower 'o' ring failed. I called out Mr Rooter because the fitting was old and I didn't have the right tools. Their rep mistakenly took out the entire valve. So why have I given this company such a high rating? Expressly because of two individuals, Derek and Fred who run the franchise for the GTA. They resolved the issue with no fuss and genuine empathy. I have no doubt that I had a poor one off experience with the contractor initially. However, knowing that you have strong management to set things right is critical. Attached below is the original e-mail I sent to the President of the group expressing this: Derek was understanding of the issue, fair and straightforward in his dealings without a hint of shirking his responsibilities. It is very easy for us to take credit when things go well, it is far harder to accept mistakes and rectify them. I am a strategy consultant, often dealing with advising companies on poor customer service. If all your franchisees were as competent and empathetic at handling customers as Derek, The Dwyer Group would be twice the size it is today.

    Numerous Plumbing jobs

Love Mr. Rooter. I only use them for every plumbing issue in my house. I have my own guy who I ask for every time and he now knows the whole family. They are definately a bit more expensive if you are used to paying a single guy cash under the table but you can never get that guy when you need him and do you really trust his work? I just love these guys and tell everyone I know to use them.

Replace leaking toilet and unclog drain

We called about a clogged toilet and were able to get someone in to fix it the next morning. A few days later, the toilet started leaking. Again, they were able to come to fix it the next morning. We had to remove and install a new toilet and even then, they were able to complete the job in the same day. Also, we were refunded the price of the 1st visit as they have a guarantee on all work. A fantastic company to deal with - I wish there were more like this.

    Bathtub leak

Called them at 10am and had the problem fixed by 3pm. Sasha the plumbing tech was superb and very professional. He even showed up with covers for his shoes to keep the dirt low. Although he had to rip some walls down, not a trace of dirt left when done. The company even did a follow up the next day.

    Leaky Faucet

On a Saturday morning, we noticed our kitchen sink was leaking from the faucet. We called several places that advertised 24 hr service including weekends in the Yellow pages. The only one of about 6 companies called that was able to accommodate our request to come that day was Mr. Rooter. The process from making the appointment (same day to the end result) was a pleasure. Totally efficient, on the ball, and reasonably priced.

    Unclog Kitchen Sing

Service man was very knowledgeable in indentifying the problem. He has the proper equipment and was able to unclog the kitchen sink. He also used a scope to make sure the drain is completely free.

    Drain repair to outside

Our basement drain was backing up. Mr. Rooter's technicians determined that it was basically an outdated trap on the outside of the house, common to older houses. The job required digging out eight feet worth of soil and replacing our trap with a modern one (pure Greek to me, but this is the general idea). And cleaning out the pipe. The quote of $1,900 sounded high to me so we immediately went online and did some searches. There was one Global TV horror story about exactly the same job by this company, so we said we'd think about it. They didn't pressure us unduly. We did a further search including here on Homestars and satisfied ourselves that this company does thousands of jobs like this and does them well. There was one minor snafu where they left the cap off one drainpipe that could have allowed sewage to go everywhere. Other than that, the job was well done and I have noticed that a major change is that our bathroom sink drain no longer backs up, and we are talking about the second floor of a very tall Victorian, so that's a long way from where the major problem was. I guess things were pretty clogged. It's pure Greek to me, as I said, but they finished the job quickly in one day and did not leave a mess, so we're glad we went with this company.
