painting of main floor plus master bedroom

I needed 5 main rooms and two bathrooms painted with minimum turmoil as I could not move out while it was being done. The minor repairs and painting took two men six days. I'm very pleased with the quality of the work and the painters were pleasant and accommodating. The company also provided a colour co-ordinator who helped me choose colours quite different from the ones I had but with which I am very pleased. The company also provided a man to reassemble the house, putting everything back where I wanted them including two full walls of books. He also cleaned up the plaster dust and left the house relatively clean.

    New flat roof

I had received several quotes for the roof, Don gave us a fair quote and was really nice to talk to. The work was done within a couple of days, the crew was very professional, on time and left a clean site. I hope to hire them for more work in the future.

    Tuck Pointing

I am very pleased with the work done by Acadian on my 1920's semi in Cabbagetown, Toronto. The project entailed grinding out long stress fractures in the mortar starting from the second floor, replacing five or six eroded and spalled bricks, including some beneath windows on the second and third floors, and parging our brick pillar on the front porch at ground level where the snow, ice and time had damaged the brick base of the column. I called several different firms here on Home Stars claiming to do tuck pointing in my area. One firm claiming to do "invisible" tuck work said on the phone that their minimum cost is over $7,000, that they only book by the week, and that I'd have to agree to that cost before they'd even come and look at the house. They seemed proud that they'd done brick work at many historic 19th Century Victorian homes in Cabbagetown, but forgot that many of us don't want a full-on restoration with precise matching brick, but instead want a high quality repair. I took as pass on these fellows. The second firm at least sent their guy to look at it. He quoted $6,000. I still couldn't believe it cost $6K to grind out and replace some mortar, replace five or six bricks and parge a small column. They also wanted to grind out all the bricks, which NO ONE does anymore - stay away from anyone who wants to do a total grind of your house. Then I called Don at Acadian. The quote was $2,000. For that I got two hardworking, qualified and friendly masons for four full days. They inspected the bricks carefully, and repaired all the mortar cracks, replaced my spalled bricks and parged the column on the front porch. Now that the mortar has dried you can hardly see where the repairs were made, and the new bricks are already weathering in colour to match the original bricks. I highly recommend Don and Acadian Contractors. The real lesson for me was to really shop around and to start with a basic idea of what things must cost. If I had received another five quotes over $6K I would have kept looking. In my opinion $2,000 for four days work, including materials is a fair price. I'm sure I could have found someone cheaper, but you still want quality workmanship. Acadian is the best match of quality and price for me.

    Replace my flat roof

Acadian Contractors was referred to me by a friend as I had complained to him about how much it would cost me to get my 12 x 12 flat roof replaced. They did the job for much lower than their competitors and had the job done in one day. They were so professional and efficient, that I called them back to build the deck on that flat roof, and they did that job as well! I would definitely recommend them to all my friends!

    Vinyl Siding

I recently hired Acadian Contracting to complete work on my garage. The quality of work was very well done and of the highest quality, however the customer service was lacking. The lead contractor was rude and condescending throughout th process (besides the quoting stage). While quality of work is important, I would say customer service should equally be a priority on any size job, as customer appreciation from the company and customer reviews from the client are important at any price point. I rate the job done a 5/5 but I would not recommend them to a friend or family member in the future.

Unfortunately, during our meetings on the ongoing work I may not have expressed myself as well as I should have. I apologize if I offended you. ~ Don Duronovich, owner.

    Back yard renovation

I had a garage in the back yard bordering a laneway. The garage was an old wooden building that was threatening to collapse from age and rot. We decided to demolish it and replace it with a car port and yard fence resulting in a larger back yard that doubled as place to entertain friends and securely park the car. I have used Acadian many times in the past so called them for this job. The work is top notch and the the yard looks great. The only minor complaint is the communication about when things would be completed was not the best. But in the end, we are very pleased with the result.

    Kitchen, Upstairs, Deck

Don from Acadin was professional and patient. Being this is the first time I used a professinoal contractor for any type of work, I was very skeptical knowing all the stories I heard. He and the company were the exception. Great job all around!

    replacement of asphalt shingles

My husband and I choose these roofers because they are exceptional roofers with spent a great deal of time...concerned about detail( minimize plant damage and repair of Roof..There are many roofing companies that do substandard work. ..They are not the cheapest....but....stand by their work. Would recommend to other people.

basement waterproofing, stone and concrete work

My mother and I hired Acadian Contractors to do a big job on our old house. There was external waterproofing to be done all around the house and new concrete and stonework to be graded in the back yard. Demir was friendly at first but became very unprofessional as the work went on. He would tell us he would be there one day and then not show up. Days would pass and no one would come to work on the house. Garden soil was taken up from our backyard and replaced in our neighbour's yard! It took this company 4 months to complete the job, and it is actually not completed. They cut the electrical that leads to our garage in order to do the work in the backyard and then never came back to fix it. Be careful when dealing with this company. They have many good reviews and I wonder why when we are still looking for someone to fix the job they left behind.

    Answer from pro:

In repose to Ann & Amy, Queen West We were hired to do external waterproofing left and right sides of the home and stone and concrete work at back of the home. The contract was negotiated and signed by Ann (mother) on behalf of Amy (daughter). As the waterproofing work was being done the customer was kept informed and she (Ann) was on the site most days. Upon the excavation we found that both the left and right sides were in poor condition. The right side did not have footings and Ann was informed of this. Accordingly extra concrete had to be used to correct this and extra cement blocks had to be installed on the left side. All of the work was done according to code. In the rear yard the work took longer than projected due to Ann’s interruptions as she was constantly changing how the scope of work should proceed and how we should do our work. This constant interruption by Ann caused confusion and loss of time and money. She could not comprehend that she was not our only customer and the workforce could not just be manipulated at her whim. When the work was completed and we asked for payment she refused and claimed that we had not done the work according to her satisfaction being two small items that we offered to rectify. We have made numerous attempts to do so; however Ann has refused for us to return to rectify the two items to her satisfaction and instead has released her frustration with a damaging review on Homestars. We have been in business since 1958, have very many satisfied and repeat customers and stand by our work.
