Review from HomeOwner Review left on 10 Mar 2011Rating: 5 out of 5Dear Richard and Jennifer, I am writing to thank you for the excellent work that you and your crew did renovating our two bathrooms, and upgrading our electrical system to 200Amps. The work was handled professionally, and in an efficient manner. I liked the fact that you entered our contact information into your PDA, and that when I first met your site supervisor, he handed me a business card with all his contact information. I also appreciated the fact that calls were returned promptly, usually within an hour. My wife and I were also happy (and relieved) that you had someone on site every day while the work was in progress, from Monday to Saturday. We never felt that you took the job for granted, or were "too busy" to give us personal attention. The quality of the work was excellent, and improved on the original design. You and Jennifer reviewed each step of the process, and we had the benefit of your collective experience when decisions had to be made. While you did not provide the cheapest quote, you also did not charge for implementing changes to the original design, when requested by us, or even when suggested by you, and which resulted in more work for you. My wife and I believe that we received real value for our money, and we have already recommended your services to a few of our friends. Mark & PatriciaReview from HomeOwner HomeOwner

Shortly after moving into our new house in the fall of 2010, we wanted to do a complete kitchen renovation. We knew this would be a big job including demolishing the main floor of the house down to the studs, removing walls, re-wiring, re-plumbing and completely changing the layout. We didn't know any contractors that were up to the job, so we were very lucky to find HSG Consulting through HomeStars. We checked references and they had many happy repeat customers. Jennifer used her design skills to bring to reality the vision we had for our home. From big details like dimensions and counter tops to the smallest detail like the position of a light switch, we worked with Jennifer to create our perfect kitchen. The actual demolition and construction started on time and was completed on schedule. Richard put a lot of energy into hand picking his team and managing the daily progress. Everyone we worked with was friendly and trustworthy. Richard was like part of our family during the reno project. The final kitchen came out better than expected. We absolutely love the unique finishes, the custom cabinets and counter tops and the great looking appliances. We highly recommend HSG Consulting and would use them again in the future. HI Jason and Sabrina. Thank you for you kind comments, Jennifer and I both appreciate them very much. Great pic's, at least you know you always have a back up career as a renovation photographer. The faucet picture looks like it should be on the front of a Kohler catalog. Thanks again Richard and Jennifer

Richard: Just wanted to write and thank you and your team for a fabulous renovation experience. As you know, we had already done a number of significant renovations on this old home, but the experience with you and your team was by far the best. Right from the outset, from your initial visits and in preparing the quote, we felt you listened to our concerns and understood what we were trying to accomplish. You clearly explained how you and your team could approach our job, a clear idea of the total cost and the approximate timelines that you would stick to, your relationship with our design group ensured we were all in step at every stage. I particularly liked how Alan was in constant contact and often on site, directing additional shipments of materials as needed to ensure the rest of the team could work effectively. Your team was with us, in numbers, throughout our project and always seemed to progress in an organized and efficient manner. I was struck by the attention to detail, in areas that I never thought would be part of your project. Items like turning the water heater to improve access, and suggestions and work in running speaker and phone wire to bathrooms while our walls were open. It seemed that you, Alan and Sun anticipated the possible and helped us accomplish it. It was these early and encouraging signs that prompted us to have you extend your work both in the basement, and to our upper floor. Throughout the project, your team respected our home. They covered exposed areas every morning, and vacuumed their way out the door every evening. Despite work, at times, covering all four floors of our house, it seemed to return to order every evening. In many past renovations, we always felt we had to inspect frequently as the renovation progressed. Under Sun's guidance we were always comfortable that the work met his exacting standards and his quality of workmanship is as good as I have seen. His work on replicating our 80 year old base boards, and reversing original doors and fittings helped maintain the character of our house, while creating modern functionality. I think the end product speaks well for what you and your team have accomplished. Thanks Amelia and HamadAnswer from pro:
Thanks Hamad and Amelia. It was a pleasure working with you and spending some time your family. You were all so nice we never wanted to leave- I thought for sure Jennifer was going to kidnap your daughters and take them home with us. Thanks for the nice words. Richard and Jennifer See you when phase 3 begins....

Review left on 31 Dec 2010Rating: 5 out of 5Kitchen and Bathroom Renovation
We had previously used Richard at HSG as our General Contractor for the renovation of a bathroom, kitchen and bedroom for an in-law suite in 2007. When it was time to renovate our kitchen we didn't hesitate to use his services again. Our original project consisted of the complete renovation of one bathroom, partial renovation of another and the entire renovation of our kitchen and front hallway. As the project continued we increased the scope of work to include additional painting and the installation of baseboards, trim and crown molding in our office, den, living and dining rooms. We also added hardwood floors in our den and office. Richard and Jennifer were very helpful in assisting us in selecting the kitchen cabinets, plumbing fixtures, tiles and trim. We were very happy with the quality of both the products and the final installation. The various specialists Richard chose were very professional and great to work with. Paul did an outstanding job as the lead hand on the project. He has skills in pretty well everything and was always quick to provide ideas and options. Deo did a super job of the travertine floor tile installation. Mike is a great carpenter and our floors, trim, baseboards and crown are very well done. Brad, Paul and Ivan worked on the painting and Norbert was the electrician. I can't say enough about how happy we were with their quality of work and their attitudes. Although this was a fairly extensive renovation the disruption was kept to a minimum. The timelines pretty much stayed in line from the original plan and HSG was very accomodating as we increased the size of the project. We are very happy with the final outcome and wouldn't hesitate to recommend HSG for any type of renovation project.Answer from pro:
Thank you, it was a pleasure working with you and your family. Happy New Year

Having heard the horror-stories ... approached master bathroom reno with caution. HSG was recommended to us by Marcon (design and supply). Absolutely justified. HSG On time. On budget. Superlative workmanship and attention to detail. We did not move out (two teenage sons). New everything (plumbing, fixtures, wiring, tile work, heated floors, etc.). New electrical panel with latest Code standards incorporated. Demolition included daily cleanup. Richard onsite three times per week until finished. Very courteous tradesmen, clearly experts. Having proven themselves to us, went on to total kitchen reno, as well as main vestibule, main hallway, main floor powder room, new rec room in basement, new laundry room, added bathroom to lower level, and went on to paint, update mouldings, replace wood floors in living, dining and den. In the end not one room was untouched. Honest. Professional. Thorough. Good recommendations ("Mike, as long as we're pulling new electrcal cabling for the bathroom, would you like us to pull sufficient cabling to eliminate all the knob and tube throughout the house ?"). All tradesmen meticulous, courteous, and understanding, great team work, they often helped one another. Visit their website - pictures of our reno are featured there. No hesitation whatsoever to recommend HSG again.Answer from pro:
Thanks Mike and Cyndy. Happy New Year to you! Richard

Richard was instrumental in contributing to the design and the sourcing of materials for our new bathroom. The end product Richard and his team delivered was on-time, on-budget and beautiful. Exactly what we wanted. Richard was onsite everyday during the construction and his team were very professional. I would retain HSG for another project and/or recommend their services without hesitation.Answer from pro:

We knew this renovation would cost a considerable amount of money and we wanted to make sure we dealt with a company that we felt confortable with and could trust to the job on time as promised without any additional costs for things we thought were included but weren't. HSG Consulting took the time to listen to our needs, made recommendations based on our needs and delivered excactly what they promised.Answer from pro:
Thanks, it was a pleasure Richard

I have used HSG for bathroom and kitchen & deck (on separate occasions). My budget is limited, and Richard worked with me to come up with providing the work with a reasonable price. The work was done quickly and on schedule (important in a house with 1 bathroom!), and the workmanship was first rate. Richard himself was around during the work, and was available to discuss the job with me.Answer from pro:
Thank you
