    Furnace Maintenance

Just wanted to reach out and say the service tech (Brent) was fantastic. He showed and explained to me the process of the maintenance he was performing. And of course I would highly recommend the monthly program. It just makes the visits easier on the pocketbook. Thanks Boonstra!!

    Answer from pro:

Hi Denise, Brent is a definite asset to the team. I'll be sure to send along your kind words. A big thanks from everyone here at Boonstra for this wonderful review!

    Duct cleaning and furnace service

I originally called Boonstras as I was unable to get any heat one day, they had originally installed the furnace 10 years ago (for the previous homeowner). They lady I spoke with was very professional and courteous. She set up a service call for the following day. I was able to get things going (battery change on the thermostat) I called to cancel the weekend emergency call. The Customer service person was so good, they starting telling about a great monthly service package and duct cleaning service. I had been very impressed with them so far (without spending a dime) so I thought I would go for the service. They scheduled a call for duct cleaning in the morning and then a furnace tuneup later that day. Lewis and Keegan came out on time, and were very polite and thorough. Lewis walked me through the whole process even taking the time to explain the ins and outs of the filters being used, and the advantages of the cleaning. They were efficent, professional and I was very impressed with their service. Later that day as promised, Dallas came out to tune up my furnace. He much like the other too, were very professional. We had some slight confusion on my new plan, but he was able to sort that out quickly. He tuned-up my furnace, was able to give some pointers on how to be more effient with our heating, and made some recommendations that were not forceful like some companies do. He even walked me through a few pointers I could do for the AC. I highly recommend Boonstras to anyone who wants good quality technicians at a fair price. Thank you guys. Norm C

    duct cleaning

Professional and Courteous. Protected and respected my new wall paint and new flooring. Duct Cleaning Specialist Lewis Sutton took his time to explain to me after his work was done.

Check boonstra out if you need HELP

I rent. The ducts haven't been cleaned in 13 years. The sales lady Cheryl was very pleasant lady too deal with. The 2 techs EXPLAINED EVERY THING THEY WERE DOING. Both great young professionals and did an awesome job, plus went above and beyond and made me feel very comfortable. Plus they enjoyed ALL the animals. Great job. I'll use them again and recommendations are high. The boonstrahome.

    AC Repair/replacement

I had a wonderful experience with the Boonstra team, right from the initial call to the repair technician and the replacement team. Everyone was professional and efficient. As much as I didn't want to replace my AC, Boonstra definitely made it less painful :)

    genuine courtesy

More companies should mold their operation around this one!! Installers, service technicians and dispatch.... all a pleasure to deal with. If you are considering a furnace/AC replacement or simply a service maintenance plan, you will not be disappointed.

    Service

I have been a customer of Boonstra for almost 40 years and pay for a Silver service. Lately, and today in particular I have not been happy with the timing of their service call. I was promised the first appointment no later than 8:30 a.m. At 10.00 a.m I called their office to see where the technician was. He's on his way I was told, his GPS is telling him he will be there in 10 minutes. There was an emergency he had to attend to. Always the emergency with these people. 18 technicians and mine was the one (again) with the emergency. He finally arrived at 10:24 a.m. He showed me his phone to prove that he had only been advised of the service at my house at 10.04 a.m. Would you believe he has no GPS? Obviously the people at the end of the phone are trained in certain buzz words to hopefully placate us - the favourite one being emergency. Don't get me wrong! I'm not complaining about the workmanship. The technicians are good. I'm complaining about the service system set-up which, in my opinion needs to be revamped if they want to keep their customers happy. My time is valuable.

    A/C Fan Repair

Here's an update to this review. Craig from Boonsta's posted at the bottom of my review to call him about the service. I did, four times over the course of 2 weeks, and I got no response. I guess he just posts his contact info at the bottom of negative reviews to make it look like there is some customer service but appears to be just a false PR ploy. Yes, he is still working there because I called the office and I got the old "he just stepped into a meeting." Thanks for wasting my time Craig; why even bother posting your info if you are not going to respond to a customer. I called Boonstra's to get my A/C fan repaired. To their credit, the technician came out later in the evening (I called at 2pm) and he was nice and understanding about the exorbitant price of the repair. That's where my complaint is. The call taker at Boonstra's never said anything about a $129.00 diagnostic fee. It was a straight forward diagnostic that it was the capacitor that had failed and it took all of 10 minutes to figure that out. Then they wanted $239 to unplug the 3 wires to the capacitor and plug in a new capacitor, which costs all of $40 and takes about 2 minutes to do. Well my wife wanted the A/C fixed immediately as it was a hot summer and I didn't believe I could find a capacitor on my own at 9:00 pm. So in the end I paid $416.00 for half an hour's work and a $40 part. I find it hard to believe that there is no set rate for installation, such as a mechanic's shop set rate, for these types of jobs. Even with travel time, the labour came in at about $300 an hour and I only live 5 minutes from the shop.

    A/C repair - too expensive!

We called Boonstra when our air conditioner quit on one of the hottest days of the year. To their credit, they were able to send someone that night, around midnight, which we thought was great. However, it was downhill from there. After looking at our AC unit for about 2 minutes but without doing any diagnostics, the service technician concluded that I needed a new capacitor. The price quoted for this service was ridiculously high (see further comments below), and he recommended that we consider replacing the unit. Given that it is 15 years old, I agreed with him and set up a sales appointment the next day. When I asked about the cost of his 10 minute visit, I was told I still had to pay the regular $129 service call fee (he did not actually service anything!). But he did mention that if we bought a new unit from Boonstra, they would take the amount off the price (I should have seen at this point where this was going….) Before their sales rep arrived the next day, I had another local company come out for a second quote, just to check prices. The first thing he did was look at my AC unit to understand the problem, and then told me he could fix it in 10 minutes, at a fraction of the cost I was quoted by Boonstra (note to everyone needing a new capacitor – they only cost about $40! If you do not believe me, google it before you have a service call). So by the time the Boonstra sales rep arrived, I was already suspicious of the company. And the sales visit did not help: 1) the entire process felt like a high pressure sales pitch 2) it took 2 hours! 3) I did not get a written estimate of the cost of the new AC unit 4) they would not even tell me what make/model – it was just a list of general specifications I was purchasing 5) the price was way too high! Just a warning to anyone else out there considering this company. Get a competitive quote before you have them do any work!
