New driveway and front lawn resodding

Taking the time to read reviews on Homestars has really paid off for me as I have found some really great contractors. Another one I can now add to my list of stellar contractors is Lou'ay and his team from Burl-Oak. I found them by a total fluke as it was the one and only time I have ever taken a moment to flip through flyers that land in my mailbox. I noticed their ad in a local advertising leaflet and decided to look them up on Homestars. These guys had endless great reviews so I decided to get them out for a quote. Upon meeting Lou'ay I was really impressed with his professionalism. After I agreed to his very fair quote (which was properly laid out, detailed and signed by him) we proceeded to the contract with all the terms laid out that were not only for his protection but mine. Now on to his work. WOW! I have to say I am a gal who is very hard to please but I was awe struck with how fantastic our driveway (Courtstone by Unilock-which has a cobble stone look) looked when he finished and the attention to detail paid to re-sodding our lawn (which I must say looks as perfect as a golf course!!) that was previously a heap of weeds. I was also so impressed with how Lou'ay and his team buckled down and tackled a very unexpected 4 foot deep curb that needed to get removed. Though this unexpected obstacle was a surprise for everyone, Lou'ay and his team soldiered on to painfully remove it and never turned around and made me feel bad about it nor did he slap on any extra fees. He totally stayed true to his quote. As an added extra he also surprised me by resetting my existing flag stone walk path that he said he would do at no extra charge. As for the flagstone path, I thought it looked fine the way it was originally but was shocked at the difference it made by him resetting it properly. It truly looks beautiful and like a new path altogether. He also installed my outdoor lamp post at no extra charge. One added note I would like to say about Lou'ay in particular is that he was not only really professional but truly a gentleman and very patient with my never ending worries. I can drive anyone a bit nuts with my micromanaging but he really took it in stride and took all my concerns and suggestion seriously. This was truly appreciated. I would seriously recommend Lou'ay and his team anyone who wants professional and hard working contractors who take pride in their work.

Front porch, walkway, sidewalk and backyard patio interlock

I began to contact Lou'ay in October of 2012, originally I was going to have the project done before Christmas but due to personal reason the project was postponed. Then Lou'ay follow up towards the end of November 2012 but I wasn't able to respond to him until January 2013. He was the only guy who follows up after several quotations. I had compared the interlocking and stamped concrete but I decided to go with interlocking. The project is about 780 Sqft and I choose Hydr'eau pave with new permeable pavement systems. It allows better water drainage and required no polymeric sand to hold the pave together. This means less maintenance and no grass will be growing in between the gaps. However, the sealing part will need to be done in the following year as this type of interlocking system require time to settle but not too worry, this is included in the cost. So I'll see you again next year Lou'ay. My AC condenser was installed on the bracket beside of my house and it was in the way for an excavator to get into my backyard. Lou'ay helped me by introduce an AC and furnace service technician – Ante, he helped me dismounted the unit and reinstalled it after the job (This is another story, if you need certified AC and furnace technician ask Ante. Fair price but awesome service). Lou'ay shows up few days later than the schedule date due to the weather. He planned to complete the job in a week and a half but he had done it in less than 4 days with 6 crew members. During the installation he used my old curb to make a retaining wall for my backyard flower bed plus replanted my bushes and trees without extra cost! The whole process was a wonderful experience and all crew members are very nice and they all work hard to their tasks. I will definitely refer you to my friend and hope you can help them to complete their project.

    Interlocking restauration

Because that was a small job, we though contractors would postpone it or even not do it at all. But that did not happened with BurlOak. They did on time, as promised and they´ve been very atentious since the first visit to give the estimate. Thanks a lot!

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Maura for the great review. I know sometimes it is a bit difficult to find a contractor willing to take on small jobs, and I admit it was hard for us to squeeze it in. But we are glad we did, and are even happier you are thrilled about our work. Enjoy your summer.

install 26' wheelchair ramp & side entrance pathway & other misc.

Burl-Oak was contracted for above project due to positive comments & being a family owned business. Both Ziad & Lou-ay plus their team did an excellent job in meeting all our requirements. They are committed to doing an outstanding job & were extremely helpfull in our selection of material & planned requirements. I would highly recommend anyone requiring a wheelchair ramp or any other project to give this firm a good hard look. You will not be disapointed dealing with a reputable firm. A 10 rating has definatelly been earned.

    Patio stone/Grass/Flower beds/Drainage

This was a two home project as reusable items were moved from one home to another, while new landscaping was being done at the first home. My mom had her front and back yards landscaped (patio stones, new grass, smaller flower bed; Total = $9000), while her old stones and plantings were moved to my home. I also had backyard drainage done along one of the fences and filling under my front stairs (Total = $1500). Lou'ay was our contact person and he was very friendly and attentive. For the most part, the project was completed in a timely manner. I was warned that some of the plantings that were being moved from my mom’s might not survive as it was dependent on the plant species. I was glad to have the warning so that there were no surprises. However, it might have helped to have the roots of the bigger plants covered with wrapping/soil, as they were left exposed at my mom’s for a couple of days before being moved to my home. The plantings that were expected to survive did well. I had to have a couple of things fixed months after the initial project. Someone came out to refill under the steps and fix part of the drainage in my backyard as there was a huge dip at the entrance to the yard (creating a walking hazard). With the spring thaw, it appears that the drainage is working just fine now and there is no tripping hazard. They still need to come out to my mom's in the spring to fix the backyard corner patio stone that is tipping on top of a concrete block, and a couple of patio stones near the front that are unbalanced. With a reminder (as requested by them), I am confident that they will come out to fix those problems since they were able to take care of the ones at my home.

    front and backyard landscaping

Lou'ay was our point of contact and he answered all our questions truthfully, did not try to sell us more services and did everything we asked for and more! We could not be more happy with the finished product of the interlock and lawn, it was great to be able to have friends and family over with absolute pride. We have already referred him to our friend Jason, who has also written a review. I will definitely refer Burl-Oak to anyone else looking into landscaping their yard.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Alice. It was a pleasure working with you and your husband. I am very happy you like the work and I greatly appreciate the referral you gave us. It was a joy for me as well transforming your back yard into something that you are proud to be in.

patio-update would give it a zero

Had company put in a backyard patio 3 years ago. Back then Louay said that if we placed a positive review on Homestars, our warranty would be extended an additional 12 months (extended from 2 years to 3 years-have email to confirm it). This year we asked the company to come look at the patio as it looked like it needed some work and wondered if it qualified under the warranty. As well, we wanted the company to help us with some additional work. Mark had come out to assess the area and said that it would be covered under their warranty. Needless to say, calls twice a month since June has amounted to nothing but empty promises of sending some guy out to fix the area under warranty and give us an estimate of building new steps. Every phone call and text was another excuse at saying how this guy was going to call and come out. Even stated that the person tried to arrange a meeting, when we addressed that we had never even spoken to this supposed guy- Mark quickly made some excuse up that he'd look into it and quickly hung up before any further discussion could be held. Again, nothing. I'm not putting much hope into this company. People who recommended this company to us are experiencing the same issue where they needed their backyard to be fixed that was still under warranty. They didn't even get a response from Burl Oak. I guess we should be happy that they at least the company picked up the phone and bothered to give some excuse.

Thank you Jason for the great review. We are glad that you are enjoying your patio, and hope you have a great summer.

    Snow Removal

Last year we hired Burl-Oak Landscaping to clear the snow from our property. We were very happy with the work they did. The cost was reasonable, and the service was exceptional. They came on time, and Lou'ay and Ziad always answered their phones when we needed to get in touch with them. We are signing up with their company again this year for snow removal and would definitely recommend them to anyone else.

Interlock walkway and patios + flagstone steps

Burl-Oak recently completed a patio/interlocking project for us that included paving stones in our front, rear and side yards; covering our front porch in flagstone; and other landscape finishing tasks for our flower beds. We found Burl-Oak through the strong reviews on Homestars, and were impressed by their personal touch through initial discussions, along with their competitive quotation as we signed off on the project. We relied upon and valued the technical and aesthetic suggestions they made regarding the design of the steps on our graded property, including the construction of our multi-level raised rear patio. Ziad was very open to extensive discussions as we made initial design and material decisions, and both he and Lou'ay were very open to listening to our feedback as work proceeded on-site. We have received numerous positive compliments on the finished result, and look forward to enjoying our new patio areas in the spring. Thank you to the Burl-Oak team for making this possible!

Thank you Dan for the great review. We were thrilled about implementing your design. You certainly have a knack for style and it came out great. Sometimes it is refreshing to let someone take the lead in terms of a design, and i am glad you let us take the lead in workmanship. It turned out great. Hope you enjoy it next year when summer rolls around.
