After moving into our new home, we wanted to lower our raised front walkway to be flush with our existing interlock driveway. We found Kurt and his team through HomeStars and were happy to see all the positive reviews of his team’s work. Although Kurt’s estimate came in towards the higher end of those we collected, the positive reviews plus our experience with him through the quoting process made us decide to go with him. Months later, we were very glad that we did! We had a tricky situation, with a number of other projects that needed to be completed around the same work area, which affected the scheduling of Kurt’s work. Kurt was extremely flexible and spent quite a few evenings on the phone with us, trying to figure out the best way to handle new challenges that came up with the work. Ultimately, because of Kurt’s patience, flexibility and commitment to doing good work and keeping his customers happy, we got a fantastic-looking new interlock walkway and wooden retaining wall to match our existing parking pad and landscaping. The work was done over two days while we were at work, and at the end of both days, you would never know a landscaping crew had been there demolishing concrete, moving dirt around and sawing wood: they left the site unbelievably clean. Kurt was meticulous in selecting the right interlock to match our existing, guiding us through colour choices and providing his professional guidance. The final product looks great, matches our driveway and is exactly what we had discussed with him. There were also no surprises with the invoicing, which is always a good thing. One item to note: if you need to reach Kurt, phone is the quickest way. Because the crew is usually out and on the road during the day, emails were followed up on in the evenings but phone calls were taken immediately.

Kurt, Shawn and Patrick cleared away construction debris, weeds, dieing plants and a fence that had its day quite some time ago and replaced it all with a beautiful landscape that suits our home so well it looks as if it had been here all along. Kurt's patient and friendly manner made the planning process a breeze. One day into the project, it was clear that our trust in his design suggestions was worth it. All three of them worked with care and attention to detail as they assembled a concrete retaining wall and walk-way, then created a gorgeous armour stone framed garden, placed river stone around our tree and laid sod. The address rock was the cherry on top of a landscape design that truly captured our hopes for our front yard. It was a pleasure having Kurt, Shawn and Patrick work at our home and we'd be happy to have them back as future projects arise.

This is the second time that I have hired Kurt and his band of merry men. The job that they did was outstanding. On time and on budget, they have increased the value of my home dramatically. They were all meticulous in every thing they did, and it was obvious that they all took pride in the outcome of their work. The beauty of the job is more than the "expensive" stone. It has come from the quality of the workmanship. Of all the guys that I interviewed to do the job, Kurt was the only one who listened to what I wanted, took my idea and made huge improvements to it. We hired Kurt in the Spring after meeting with a number of contractors. Kurt seemed professional and yet still easy-going. His quote was very detailed and in line with the other contractors. We had to wait till the end of the Summer when Kurt and his team finally came to do our project. The end result was worth the wait. They worked well as a team, and were very efficient at what they do. Kurt communicated with us as the work progressed and he was accommodating when we needed to make changes along the way. After an exhaustive search I found Kurt and Distinctive Designs Landscaping here on HomeStars. Our backyard was a disaster and in desperate need of a complete overhaul that included grading, removal of several overgrown flower beds, tree removal, new sod, new fencing, new interlock patio and some rehabilitation of our old deck. The end result is a backyard that I absolutely love, that is nothing short of perfection, and has exceeded all expectations. From the initial meeting with Kurt, merging our vision with his design, to the completed project - it was a pleasure. We contacted Distinctive Designs to discuss poor drainage in the backyard and were so impressed with Kurt's professionalism and knowledge that we revised our scope of work to address the drainage and include a deck, a gazebo deck, a patio, re-grading and sodding, as well as some privacy screens and plantings. We also had a front walk that had many unsafe transitions and added this to our scope of work as well. Kurt's design addressed those concerns and his design and stone suggestions complement our style of home. Kurt and his team are remarkable. They are professional, knowledgeable, amazing workers and a pleasure to work with. From the design concept to the finished product, we are thrilled. Kurt offered suggestions, dropped off stone samples, made changes as needed, kept us informed and the job site (our home) was always left clean and tidy at the end of each day. Kurt and his team did an excellent job in transforming our ideas into reality. The 2 level patio was a large job but the end result is stunning. Kurt's attention to detail is excellent and he took our original plan and made slight modifications with the addition of special design additions that really make the patio look unique. The jobsite was kept clean and organized at all times. Kurt and his team definitely went above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction. We moved into our home about 3 years ago and have been wanting to do some hardscaping almost from the start. Kurt was great to deal with and the work looks great.
