    Moving

I went with Greenland Van Lines because of the rave reviews they received on this website. Unfortunately, my moving experience with them wasn't so great. One of the problems I had is that they weren't up front about their policies. For example, I asked whether they sub-contracted their movers, or if they their had own truck and staff that did all the moving. I was told that they did not sub-contract, so I was surprised to see a different van line at my door on moving day and a second one at my destination. Never once did I see a Greenland truck. I was also quoted a deposit of $100 on the phone, and was surprised to later get a charge for $200 on my credit card. Moreover, I specifically asked over the phone whether there was a deductible on any insurance claims and was told 'no'. But when it came time to sign the paperwork at the end of my move, I had to agree to a $350 deductible before getting any of my stuff. And another thing: I was told before the move that my stuff was still covered by their insurance policy even if I packed it myself, only to learn on the other side while signing the paperwork that this was not true. Either Greenland doesn't know their own policies or they were misleading me. Another thing that really miffed me was the absolute horrific care the movers took with my stuff. My boxes were man-handled. Thankfully, I packed them with enough care that there was minimal breakage (some broken glasses, scratches on the furniture, and a busted statue). I spent $90 on a TV box for my flatscreen, which was completely crushed at my destination. The TV turned out to be okay (barely), but the box was destroyed and it was evident from the sensor sticker on the side that the TV had been flipped either on its side or upside down at least once during the move. Not good. The only thing I can commend Greenland Van Lines on is that they were friendly and accommodating, and their prices were reasonable, but I would not use them again.

    Move from Edmonton to Toronto

Greenland picked up our goods the day they were contracted and delivered them to Toronto within the estimated timeline mentioned. We did have some concerns but all ithings considered the move was a success. Greenland did contact me to address the concerns we had and we have resolved the outstanding concerns. My advice, with any move, would be to read the fine print and get a final price prior to the move.

    move from Vancouver

So great. They just left and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to friends & family. Their estimate was honest, their guys were really nice, and every piece of furniture (and all of the walls, old & new locations) came out unscathed. You can tell they take pride in their work. Lastly, know that you're supporting a foundation that provides assistance to those who want to turn their lives around for the better. I can't say enough good things about them... great work!

Moving from Montreal, Quebec to London, Ontario

I liked this moving company very much. What was impressive about Greenland Van Lines were the actual movers. They were friendly, kind and hard working. It seems that all of my stuff arrived in one piece with only two photo frames that are minimally damaged. They did full packing themselves and the price was by far the most competitive I received, even though their estimate of weight was well below the actual total weight they gave me after the move. The cons were that they were late in arriving and packing (I was told it would take approximately 4 hours to pack up my house...they came at 6 pm and left the next morning at 8 am! - and so that also delayed the delivery. For the price, the care they took with my stuff, their friendly attitude toward my family I would highly recommend them. Timeliness and better followup from headoffice (calling me instead of me chasing them) need some work. Samantha is great. Overall, I was pleased.

    Move from Toronto to Vancouver

This company is TERRIBLE! I tried them out largely based on their ratings here, which I am now pretty sure were created by their marketing dept and not actual users. :-/ When the estimator arrived, he took about 2 minutes to decide the contents of my one bedroom apt would weigh in at about 1500 lbs. I told him that sounded low based on other estimates and he assured me there would be no way I was going to go over 2000 lbs. He said they could deliver my things 10 days from the departure date. Prices were not the lowest, but competitive and they assured me they'd been in business for 10+ years and pointed to their BBB rating as a reference. (BBB shows them in business for 6 mos... this should have been my first clue) Well, my "weigh in" was 2700 lbs (which I only found out cause I called them and am suspicious of). Every single piece of furniture save 1 has sustained damage from this move and anything fragile that I did not pack myself (I got full packing service) is damaged in some way or outright broken. To make matters worse, I got a call on day 13 stating they had calculated my original price (which was already almost double the quoted price due to the weight difference), and were adding an additional $500 to the price tag for packing. When could I expect to receive my things? Friday, someone would call me to schedule delivery. I blow a gasket and they cut that $500 off my bill. Friday comes and goes with no call, so I call them on Monday to see where my stuff is. They assure me it's in a warehouse here, but I need to call their dispatcher to get delivery. Well, the warehouse is for a completely different company. Contrary to what their "marketing" dept says, they do NOT have their own van line. The people on this side who work for allied movers were slow to deliver. They would often promise callbacks and then fail to do so. I had to spend hours of my time just chasing them to commit to bring my stuff to me after living out of a single suitcase and on an air mattress for 2 weeks and sleeping on a friend's couch for another. I ultimately received my goods 21 days after they left Toronto. Many of them are damaged. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone.

moving from Whitby,ON to Surrey, BC

I must say that I was very impressed with the service that greenland provided my family. We had never moved very far always with in Durham, ON and I was not sure what to expect. my new employer who was helping us with our relocation suggested greenland Vanlines. they are very friendly and have some of the best customer service I have come across in a long time! kudos for that, it is very hard to find people who actually care and take time to explain every detail to my many, many questions!! so BRAVO! we were offered a free in home estimate, they sent out a very nice man named Sam (I believe) what a pleasure he was also. my move went very smooth the movers were very polite and helpful. all of my belongings were held in their storage for 2 weeks free of charge. the one thing that really suprised me is when I received my final balance there were no hidden charges and the estimate was pretty much on point. Needless to say i will be using them again if we move back home. I will also be sending my friends their way! A big thanks to my consultant Sarah, who was very kind and patient with me, what a big help! Sincerely, Ameenah B

    move from Halifax to Scarborough

I have heard so many horror stories about moving companies for long distance move. I was reading the reviews and doing research and came across Greenland. I requested a quote for my move I had to be in Ontario for the 24 of march to start a job on the main land. The customer service is amazing and so willing to help with any questions I had. They called to check up on my packing progress and made me feel so at ease.on March 15 the movers came even wore booties over their shoes! They were so polite and waisted no time moving my belongings with care. That made me feel even better! Anything that lessens my stress is great!! It arrived to my new apaetment and on the 24 as requested!! I was given my bill and to my amazment it was less then quoted! They gave me a copy of the scale slip and I paid. Over the phone! I had a stress free move and I would use these guys every time and recommend them yo anyone! So if u are looking for a top notch. Moving co. You should give them a shot! Thanks greenland, Tany

    Move from Toronto to Ottawa

Like the previous reviewer, I searched for movers for my 2 bedroom apartment move from Toronto to Ottawa online, and contacted a variety of operators. I decided to go with Greenland because of their stellar reviews below. From the start customer service was excellent - Samantha was always available every time I called, and always helpful in answering all my concerns. I received an estimate online, and then in person, which was not far from my actual payment in the end. I paid a deposit a few weeks in advance in cash, but few details were explained to me at the time. When the movers arrived, on time, they explained almost immediately several additional previously undisclosed costs (extra charge for stairs, extra charge for wrapping, additional fee for first 500 pounds, etc.). This concerned me, so I spoke with Samantha who confirmed some but assured me that others would not apply. She also confirmed that delivery would take place in 2 days in Ottawa. 2 days later I got a call letting me know delivery would be in 7 days. Shocked, I asked to speak with Samantha, and she apologized, letting me know that there had been a miscommunication, but that there was nothing that could be done. She was willing to accommodate reductions in payment for the misunderstanding. Whether naive or not, I believed her, so settled in to wait for my things. My things arrived in mostly good condition (only a few low value items were damaged, so no claim filed) as promised 7 days later. A few larger items arrived the following week. The movers on both ends were friendly, efficient, and careful with all my things. Despite the 'miscommunication' which left me stranded for an additional 5 days, I was not terribly inconvenienced. The same would not be true if I'd had commitments or dependents, and I doubt I would be so flexible. Nonetheless, the litmus test is whether or not I would recommend Greenland to others, and the answer is yes. I will likely even use them again myself for my next move. And a big "Thank You" to Samantha for all her help.
