Dave was referred to me by a reputable local roofing company for his expertise in diagnosing a leak in my roof or siding that was causing water entry only during heavy rains. Dave assured me that he always finds the leak. His confidence sold me immediately and his persistence lived up to the promise. It took three visits and two water tests using an infrared camera but Dave was true to his word! Instead of the full roof replacement that I expected, he recommended a more surgical repair and so far so good! I appreciated his professionalism and perseverance! Highly recommend.

In December, we discovered water behind a closet wall which had caused mold to grow. Insurance confirmed the damage but refused coverage on the grounds that the roof was sub-standard. This inspection, by its own admission, was done quickly, inspected only a small portion of the roof, and was done in poor weather conditions with ice and snow build up present. Regardless, our insurance company stood by its conclusion. We provided previous inspection reports and ample pictures that showed a roof in good working order but these were ignored. I contacted Dave at Independent Roof Inspection Services for a second opinion. He scheduled an inspection based on upcoming weather so he could do a thorough inspection in good conditions. Dave arrived on time, inspected our entire roof, reviewed the pictures from the previous inspections, and provided a detailed review indicating his findings that our roof was, in fact, in excellent condition other than the wind damage that had caused shingles to lift. His report successfully overturned our insurance claim decision and we are currently moving forward on repairs. Throughout the process, Dave was open and transparent about everything. Communication was excellent and I would recommend his services.

I actually first met Dave in 2019 when I had him come out to the same property to inspect the roof for storm damage and assess if it needed a full replacement at that time. Dave provided a great deal of insight and good advice along with the report. I followed his advice to patch the roof and give it 5 years. Here we are in 2024 and the roof was fine until this year, so he was spot on. This year I again reached out to Dave with the intent to fully replace the roof. He was responsive and friendly, giving advice on approaches and options I might consider. Having his help to sort through roofing quotes and ensure selection of a quality roofer with a good quote/approach gave me a lot of confidence in my selection. During the nearly two weeks of work Dave was on the roof several times and provided a number of helpful instructions to ensure the work was done to a high standard. The roofers, who are an experienced outfit themselves, said they were impressed with his knowledge and attitude. I would rate Dave 10/10 for his knowledge, respectful attitude, and desire to help his clients get the best possible outcome.

I had a roof installed with a ten-year warranty that a year later developed a leak in a third floor dormer after a large storm. The roofers came out twice to repair, but their results were unsuccessful as the roof leaked again each time there was a large rain storm, which were frequent that summer. I called IRIS (Daves company) to do an inspection to help determine the cause of the leak. Dave answered immediately and came out very quickly to conduct a full inspection that determined that the cause of the leak was due to a relatively minor (but consequential) issue with the finishing of the metal drip edges on the flat roofs. During their attempts at repair, the roofers had concentrated their efforts on the shingle portion of the roof near the dormer and thus had missed the underlying cause elsewhere. During his initial inspection, Dave went above the call of duty and did a temporary fix with sealant and caulking until the roofers could do a more thorough repair. This was fortunate as a few days later we had another big storm during which the roof did not leak, confirming that he had successfully diagnosed the problem and that his temporary fix had worked. Within a few days of his initial inspection, Dave provided me with a detailed report with photographs depicting the areas of concern, the reason for the leak, and specifying clearly what needed to be done to prevent the problem from recurring. The roofers accepted the findings of his report without question. While the roofers were doing the repairs that Dave recommended, a question came up about the best way to address an issue, and I phoned Dave and he answered immediately and discussed the issue with the roofers in a collegial and constructive fashion to achieve a mutually agreeable solution. Dave further came out two days after the roofers had done their repair (on a Labor Day weekend!) to do a follow up inspection to make sure everything was done to his satisfaction, which it was. My experience with Dave and his company echoes everything others have said here. Daves extensive knowledge and experience is matched by his gentle and compassionate concern for his clients and his dogged commitment to get to the root of a problem. He clearly loves not only the work he does but also helping others in difficult circumstances. He is a rare gem and I cannot recommend him more strongly!

We recently discovered an interior leak after a very bad storm and called some roofers to take a look (all highly rated). From the beginning the opinions varied greatly. We had a total of 6 roofers quote the jobeveryones assessment was different. After reading Daves amazing reviews, we decided it would be worth the money to pay for an expert assessment from an unbiased third party. We needed him to come asap because we had learned that our attached neighbour would be doing their roof and one of the going theories was that their roof was the cause of our leak. He understood the urgency and accommodated our timeline, provided a detailed report the same day and even offered to come back after our neighbours roof was done to check the job and confirm our leak was sealed. Not only did Dave do everything he promised (including a couple of minor repairs at no charge), he is also a lovely person who is obviously passionate about what he does. It was well worth his fee for the confidence and peace of mind we now have in our home and the roof over our heads. Wholeheartedly recommend!

I hired Independent Roof Inspection Services to do an inspection of a new exterior aluminum installation which included eavestrough, fascia and leafguard. The job was quite expensive but done horribly wrong. The contractor refused to come back and fix their work and tried to sue me for the full amount alleging that nothing was wrong with it. Mr Baughn issued me a report which I used for Court and then later came to my trial as my witness. The Judge accepted Mr Baughn's evidence as probative and reliable and decided the case in my favour. I'm very happy with the result and that there are retired trades professionals out there like Mr Baughn who will offer their opinions backed up by decades of experience to help homeowners fight claims against dishonest contractors who do not provide work in a workmenlike manner and refuse to come back and fix their work. I will use Mr Baughn to oversee my next shingle roof installation. I consider his experience and opinion to be invaluable in works related to the roofing trade. I know with him there, there will be no funny business from the trades who think they can do poor work and demand payment without doing the work right.

I had what I suspected was a rogue roofer doing work for me a few weeks ago. I needed an independent/impartial review of the roofing work that had been undertaken.
