    Very Poor Service This Year

I had Appleseed for many years with a very diligent driver. He was always here promptly and almost immediately after the city plow. There was never an issue with timeliness. This year has been a stressful and disappointing year so far. The plow arrives very late after a snowfall sometimes 24 hours or more and the same slow service with the city plow debris. I was boxed in for over 24 hours by a mound of frozen ice one day when the plow came down during the night. I have called the call Centre twice and finally had my lane plowed 8 hours after one call. I have emailed the company twice from both the Appleseed and Metro websites. I received no response. A couple of my neighbours who are equally discouraged have apparently reviewed update emails but I have received nothing. I just can't understand why the service is so poor after all the years of superior service I have had in the past. I will be looking around next year for one of the services that are serving some of my neighbours well. I am so disappointed.

    Answer from pro:

Thanks for advising and Im sorry you are disappointed. After 10 years your driver retired and a driver from another area has stepped in. You dont leave a name or address with us to visit and correct this issue. This is always frustrating for the office and myself when we cant respond or address because of a lack of information left with us. 12 hours is quite an exaggeration here, we are by on every driveway to clear within 4 hours of any grader passing through. Perhaps a sidewalk plow visited after bit again, without a specific address I can't confirm. Regardless, we will try to improve.

    No results

Very disappointed, called five times since Monday January 2, no call back no removal!! My mother's para transpo got stuck trying to pick her up. Very upset, you claim you care but don't!

    Answer from pro:

Your mother lives on a bus route. The driveway (and end) were cleared several times. I responded to you personally and addressed this. Of course we care....we cater to more Seniors and 'at need' clients then anyone and try to do so with compassion. Yes!...you DID call 5 times!....and not once did you bother to leave a name NOR an address! Do you have any idea during a storm how much time we have to call people back to get simple information so we can fix your problem! We operate on a 'live email system'....email us, we print it out, we text your problem directly to the driver....done! So next time you call...call once please, (and leave the address and issue)...once. Many thanks Ken

    Snow removal

First time with Metro...very disappointed. I refered my elderly father to try Metro for this year's snow removal. I have had to call them twice to come and clear their driveway, Christmas Eve my husband had to go and clear their laneway . just the other day they damaged the lawn light post which the fuse is hooked up to 4 different rooms in the house not to mention that my father cannot take his car out of the garage because of the damage Called them this morning to put a rush on it still waiting for someone to call them or better yet to go fix the problem. This company has caused so much havoc on a elderly couple this winter...it's awful. Will definitely not recommend this company to anyone.

    Answer from pro:

1st the driveway: We cleared your father driveway Christmas eve and returned after to clear the city plow dumps. 2nd the 'damaged lamp': We received your call only yesterday about the lamp in the driveway. I had a Manager visit- yesterday! Yes, the snow hit the lamp...he fixed the old loose wiring (which was wrapped in old cellophane tap-not up top code!).....the lightbulb worked so the damage was very little. 3rd Your complaints: You live in Spencerville and rely on your parents 'reports' of being done and when.....you aren't here...we are, we use GPS and we can confirm when they are done. Please explain how ' a burnt out lawn light' traps your father in his garage? Truly sorry you had these issue but we responded quickly to your complaints Your elderly father asked to cancel his contract and we respectfully have done so. Ken

    Nepean Ontario

Terrible service. Paid for shoveling of driveway and they have only done it 3 times so far. Very slow in getting our driveways done. Other companies are done way before these guys. Service is really poor compared to when they were owned by APpleseed. address is on Saginaw cresc and yes we are a customer. Sidewalk has only been done 3 times this year. I have pictures. Also driveways for our street is not done like other streets. We have to call and call before metro comes. I don't know why it shows up as Cambridge.

    Answer from pro:

Its says your are in Cambridge? We dont service that area but U will reply anyway. Sorry you feel that way and we will try to improve. Im sure with over 9 storms in a few weeks we've been there more then 3 times? They visit at least twice each storm. Once for their driveway and once for the city grader dump. Again, no address so I cant possibly look at your file and try to see if we can find a way to satisfy you. And...why is this coming in from 'Cambridge '?....i dont service Cambridge?

    Snow Removal

Wow. Lots of negatives. I am a first time user of this service. Last year 50 cm in one day. That was it. My schedule does not fall between the 9 to 5 of most people. I was concerned, but so far wonderful!! Tonight the city plow went by blocking the driveway. Within 15 mins ( not exaggerating) there was Adam. I am very pleased with this service. Tonight I had a neighbor run over to ask who does my driveway. Recommend Metro to anyone. Thank you for making the winter easier. Ann Ottawa

    Answer from pro:

Very nice to get a high rating from a customer here and thanks. Adam is a great driver (4 years in your area). Of course Ann...they are now going to say we are related! Lol Cant win on here sometimes. I only hope people view these negative reveiws as coming from 1st time users that have totally unrealistic expectations from not just my company bit any snow provider out there. We work hard and cant be at every driveway at the same time as soon as you want to get out. There is a very clear reason we are the largest snow clearing company in the city with over 70 tractors, 200 hard working employees and a very 'tight system' of clearing snow well......for 25 years I might add. We're all proud of what we try to do every storm. Again, many thanks Ken

    snow removal

So disappointed with Metro... hardly ever see them! I honestly don't know what service I have paid for! Competitors driveways are often cleared well before Metro ever decides to turn up! Definitely last year with Appleseed/Metro. Buyer beware! *GPS doesn't necessarily work how it is supposed to... Metro driver has turned around outside my house (I live on a Crescent).... and still not cleared my driveway! (twice!!) Yes he was there.... but no he didn't do a thing! The new markers do not help... you can't see them against the snow!

    Answer from pro:

What is your address and I can review where you are on the drivers route? They do show up at least twice during an event. Once for the driveway and again after the city plows have gone by. Its rare someone gets missed, unless you are a late signup without stakes? Please advise. Ken Dale President

    Snow Removal Service

They not only shovel your driveway, but they also shovel the grass off the edges of your lawn. The main reason for my review is the fact that they continuously leave large piles of snow on the middle of the road, which freeze overnight and leave large bumps on an otherwise plowed street.

    Answer from pro:

Drivers are trained to exactly NOT do this as. They can be fined over $500 by the city. (Which they pay). In some cases if city graders have not done streets the may leave a small pile beside the driveway if a car is parked on the road. I will investigate but i need an address to find out which driver it is? (We have over 70 drivers working for us here) Thanks Ken

New name same garbage service (appleseed)

Don't waist your time with metro your better off shoveling because that's what you'll be doing. Ken obviously changed the name due to all the horrible reviews he was getting at the start of the season. Horrible customer service, they never call you back to "solve" the issue. You'll never see the tractorsame out till 24 hours after the snowfall. If you get a email that the tractors are in your are or when they will be there, don't count on it till about 8-10 hours after that time. I once got a email that said "the trucks went by at 5am and we will be making second rounds later. I was puzzled because my lane was still covered in snow in the morning. Whoever rated this company at 10 on 10 recently, is probably a friend of Ken's trying to help him out. Everyone I talk to is extremely dissatisfied with the service. After 3 years with "Appleseed" I will not be using them again next year. I HIGHLY suggest you chose another contractor. ***edited after seeing Ken's response**** actually I am not a competitor, and I haven't been canceled. Know one ever called me back to solve the issues, I left messages with the person at the call center. I was never contacted back from a "contractor" like the call center said I would be. I am still a customer and if you are willing to give a refund, I will gladly take it. The steaks are still in my lawn, and you guys still occasionally come when you decide to. Thanks Ken, you seem to be a real class act!

    Answer from pro:

Your claims, comments and allegations are ridiculous, simply unfounded and untrue. Enough said. A competitor or someone we cancelled for being abusive and rude to staff most likely. It happens. Ken

Great Service from Metro Snow & Ice

This marks my 6th year with Appleseed Snow Blowing, now Metro Snow & Ice. Other than 2 small items in the first years - which were quickly addressed, I have had nothing but great service from Ken and his team. While my driveway may not always be cleared when my schedule dictates (nor do I expect my schedule to dictate the drivers schedule), I will say that the drivers have always showed up and done a great job. Other than in 1 instance during a prolonged storm a couple years back, I've never had to shovel to get in or out of my driveway while the drivers are doing their routes. Not only would I recommend Metro to others, I have. 2 of my neighbours signed up this year because of the great service I've had. I know over the years I've sent emails back to Ken thanking him and his team for the great job they do (corny jokes and all). The fact I can go out and clean up the edges and my front step is a welcome relief to me.

    Answer from pro:

Wow! How nice to finally get a compliment here Bryan! I'm getting pretty 'beat up' here early in the season by 1st time clients who don't seem to understand the confines of a snow clearing service contract. Except for the very odd 'complete miss', we show up EVERY single storm...period! Long time customers realize this, have settled in and understood the 'rythym' of a storm and the clearing. We've been doing this (and in the same neighbourhoods) for over 25 years! Its not like we 'dont care' or dont know what we are doing. We're NOT a 'valet' clearing service or 'on demand'. Pizza Pizza might get there in 30 minutes when you want it but this business is different. New clients need to: Read their contracts clearly and understand their time of clearing thresholds. Realize they are not the only client with snow and we will be there. (Maybe not on "their schedule' but we DO show up within the contracted time.') The most common complaint? "I had to shovel myself'! No you didnt! You got impatient, shovelled the snow and didnt wait. Patience! You paid us...wait for us. Or... 'I've finally moved my car out....get here now and clean the driveway nice for me"! (Of course people don't say this)...they just say.."You missed me!" Let's be reasonable and fair here please. Im sorry.....snow companies just dont work that way!.....If thats what a client wants then best hire the neighbours teenager and wait on him. (between his hockey practices and time with the girlfriend) Thanks for letting me vent Bryan...and your honest way of 'getting the word out there' about how we work. Refreshing! Ken

    Pay to shovel

Want to pay for a service and then continuously have to call and email then shovel yourself? then call and pay for metro. I have yet had my laneway cleaned on a timely or professional manner - being told that a 10-12 or 1pm cleanup time is appropriate for people trying to get to work in the AM. Very disappointed in the service. Sure they have GPS but you have to CARE about the times....

    Answer from pro:

Thanks for the feedback. Im not presenting excuses (I dont like when people do that) I'm offering valid reasons. We tell customers right up front..."walkway shovelling will be done 12 hours AFTER the storm has stopped" Few snow companies even offer 'walkway shovelling' anymore. We still do. It is the hardest position to fill regardless of how much we pay. We undertake something that you can't OUR prefer not to do. We have limited our walkway service only to Seniors or those at need' because of how hard it is to find mobile able bodied, reliable people to go out at 2 am in the cold and work 8 hours shovelling.(We go on an honour system when we ask people if they are senior or disable). Again, timing of your clearing is different depending on the storm. I know for a fact every driveway is cleared at least once within 6 hours of the storm ending. Thats what our contract clearly stipulates and what clients sign on for. Its standard in the snow business. Thanks Ken
