    Snow Removal

Ken Unfortunately this is a case of too little too late. Yes – Jeff was our driver in past seasons and he will be a loss to your organization, he was the reason that we referred your business to over a half dozen of our friends and neighbors. Perhaps if your customer service took the time to explain this rather than being surly and offering to cancel our contract as their first response to our complaints this could have been avoided. As of yesterday we cancelled our contract with your firm and have hired another local firm. We also take issue with the $45 cancellation fee in addition to the amount of the pro-rated refund we are receiving....considering the fact we had no service the 1st storm, limited service the 2nd storm and having to wait 16 hours to have then end of our driveway cleared out after the plow went by. Hearing that my 88 yr old neighbor had to dig out the end of his driveway because your driver missed our street was the final straw for us. I have been a customer of Ken's when he was operating for another company a few years back and when he made his transition to open his own company - Metro I had such great service I decided to switch to his new company. This year has been terrible. They ask us to email as this would be answered quicker...well after the first snowfall and no snow removal in my neighbourhood I sent an email with no response what so ever. So 1 1/2 days later I called them and got a dispatcher who said she would have the area manager call me. She did very quickly and was way too eager to give me money back if I wanted. That is not what I wanted....I wanted what I paid for...SERVICE!! The next snowfall someone came but gave me OK service not what I am used to in the past years. Now after 20 cms of snow yesterday they came by once earlier in the afternoon and never returned once the grader went by my house before 5pm. I was away and returned home after 9pm to it still not being cleaned and to my surprise when I woke at 5:30 am it still was not cleared. So I sent an email into them first thing. I am waiting for their response. Another problem I have with this year is I am not receiving their email alerts to let me know when the driver will be in my neighbourhood, I am only receiving the general emails from Ken with is plan. I truly hope that this issue in my neighbourhood is rectified as there are quite a few seniors. When it asks me to rate how satisfied I am with Metro this year at this point this is how I feel. If you were to ask me that last year I would have given it a 10 and I have even recommended his service to others before.

    Answer from pro:

Im sorry you've received a slow start. Again, without a name or address I cant address your particular issue. Supply and I certainly will do whatever I can to try to fix any problems. I have in fact added 2 new drivers in to the westend areas (if that's where you live). They are learning their routes, the Managers are following up after and each storm they get faster and miss less. Jeff may have been you driver for 15 years. Jeff called the night before the storm and 'retired himself' as his body just couldnt take the stress anymore of long hours clearing. Tough loss, but the new driver is experienced and he just needs to learn Jeffs route. Again, without an address I can only guess here. Regarding email alerts....supply your name or address and we can get you up to speed on them . Tractor alerts and email notifications are the fasted way to 'keep abreast' of how and what we are doing during storms. I'm sure we will work the bugs out on the timing of clearing your driverway. Thanks for the feedback. Ken Dale President Metro Snow and Ice Management

    Snow Removal

3 Snowfalls so far this season and all 3 time I had to call them to clean my laneway... We have a contract with for the season and as of now they have failed to meet the conditions in the contract, very disappointed in this company. It is Dec 12, 2016 big snowfall and no sign of Metro Snow removal, I called and all we get is an automated service and when selected it goes straight to voicemail. I am upset and may go to the media about this and expose this. I am not the only complaint and this will get solved.

    Answer from pro:

LET ME EXPLAIN HOW SNOW CONTRACTORS GENERALLY WORK: I've been clearing snow for over 25 years and basically I love it! I'm rather frustrated by this review and and a others I feel are somewhat unfairly low and I would like to finally respond candidly to these '0' reviews that people are so easily to throw out. We treasure our rating on Homestars and when a review is fair and valid...we accept the criticism and improve from it. When it's constructive and 'informed'. I don't want to come across as 'defensive here' but after perfect 10's and 9' last winter I have had a few 'unfair' 0 reviews today in particular. The first big storm. Your's I will use to explain the basics of snow service with us in particular. It may avoid other future poor reviews with unrealistic expectations for snow companies in general. (All low reviews are usually from new 1st time Customers unfamiliar with snow clearing services) Its frustrating and concerning when new clients with 'expectations higher then the industry standards' writes a poor review through lack of understanding of the service. Of the over 10,000 customers we service we've had 3 poor Homestars reviews today...all from new clients who have just started to use our service. Not bad in relative numbers. Perfect 10's would be preferred and we will continue to work towards that for everyone. Let me 'unpackage' your claims and review and maybe after understanding you may (or not) consider changing your reveiw more fairly after the next storm or so. I'd like that. You state "You've had to call 3 times'. Very rarely does someone HAVE to call our office. We ALWAYS get the snow cleared out. Period. Based on my system: * You should have received an email last night regarding our timing plans * We then sent out 2 more "Email Updates' stating current and ongoing progress. * The Tractor should have sent you at least 3 'Tractor Alerts' of it being near your area. WE are the ONLY snow company out there that does all this during each storm to keep you updated "so you 'don't' have to call! The fact is, we are not (in your opinion) there fast enough to your liking so you call. I review every tractor report. We clear well within the times outlined in our contracts both during the storm and when the City Plows go by. Case in point today. 1) Your drive was cleared by 4 am this morning according to GPS reports on tractors. 2) 4-5cm then fell from 4am to 6am after he had cleared leaving snow in the driveways at the beginning of his route.Yes, there was 5 cm instead of 10! But it was cleared down before you left for work. Give us fair credit please. 3) Driver returned and cleared again and then catched the 'City Grader dumps' again after that....all within the contracted times. 4) Driver will 'automatically'' go by tommorow between 10am and 1pm "without you calling' to reclear any left over debris. Our standard practice. So many new customers call 'very late in the season' to sign up, usually during snowstorms, are not staked and the odd time a driver will miss the drive until it is staked. Last to signup, first to complain. This may or may not be your particular case but it is in 99% nor the poor reviews we get. I put you to proof we have 'failed to meet the terms of the contract"......it's clear, we met it easily. Hope we can better serve you next storm but I think it best you 're-read' the timing terms outlined. I have clear reports stating otherwise. Not condemning, not defending, explaining. If you havent received all the various alerts and email bulletins during this past storm then please contact me and I will look in to this for you. They help greatly in avoiding frustrations and anxiety about 'what's going on with my driveway". Thanks Ken Dale President

    Snow removal

I signed with this company in October and paid 1/2 the amount due as requested. They quickly took my money but I did not receive a confirmation and no markers were ever put on my driveway. I began to be concerned so looked up some reviews and saw some very unfavourable ones. I decided to cancel my contract. I emailed the office Nov 15 and they had no record of my contract. Luckily I had proof of the contract and of them accepting my etransfer, so I emailed it to them, and surprise, they found me and said they would send it on for a refund. To date nothing! I emailed a number of times but have had absolutely no reply. I feel like I have been dupped. Will I ever get my money back? Do your homework before emailing any company money. Update: I did receive a refund, the cheque was dated a day after my review.

    Answer from pro:

I have been following the emails. As you were told before your refund is being processed as per the policy outluned on thr back of the contract. Sorry you decided to cancel before the season even started. Ken Dale President Metro

    Awful start

It's December 12 and I've never seen a truck in my driveway. To be fair, we signed up after the first storm of the season so that one doesn't count. I assumed that the other snow falls were under the 4 cm rule but our neighbors had theirs plowed, albiet, with another company. Today I woke up at 8am and it wasn't possible to get out. Its now 11 am and it's worse. I've cancelled our doctor's appointment and we've postponed Santa Photos because, well, we can't get out. Thank goodness I'm a stay at home mom. If I worked I'd have had to bus in. Since they've never shown up I've rated them 0. Perhaps I had high expectations but you'd think that you could get out for work.

    Answer from pro:

You are obviously a 1st time client and I appreciate you going with us. We started at 2 am this morning. Your driveway was done the 1st pass at 3;17 am. Over 5cm fell between 4am amd 6am. I have checked the GPS reports on your driver and he has passed by 3 times upo until 8 pm tonithe. I will reveiw the records for his run today and change if required. I feel the low rating is a little unfair as yes, you did sign up late and it takes a bot for drivers to 'plug new clients' into their routes. KenDaler President Metro A 'review update' would be nice.

    metro snow and ice management

December 12,2016 Ist snowfall and it is 11:00 am and still no plowing and no response from company ph0ne numbers. Not impressed. No one else on the street using Metro has been plowed out either. Not a good start to a winter contract. Ottawa west end.

    Answer from pro:

Again, You were in fact done 'before' 6 am......and again at about 6pm. Graders came out at 10 am this morning and you are cleared out before supper. Read the contract please. We were there writhing 4 hours of the snow starting. Better then most. Nevertheless we will try to improve for you. "O" seems a bit harsh?

    New name-old company

As a new resident of Ottawa,I did some research before signing up with metro. The reviews for Appleseed were certainly not great but metro had generally positive ones. Of course I did not know they were the same operation. I even received quotes from each Metro and Appleseed separately. They came back with 75$ difference between them-how is that even possible? Regardless, I took a wait and see attitude.1 st storm- never showed up,my neighbors shoveled my driveway. 2 nd storm, arrived 24 hours after the snow. 3rd storm, again about 24 hours. I also made a point of driving around my neighbourhood (old Stonebridge)after the 2 nd and 3 rd snow events and noticed everyone that had company markers OTHER than Appleseed were nicely cleared. My decision to contract with this company, may have been an unfortunate error.

    Answer from pro:

Thanks Linda for the feedback. In my last "Client Bulletin" you should have received last week it informed everyone in Stonebridge that I had added another tractor to the area to further reduce wait times. This will improve things as client route sizes always change each WInter. Regarding Metro/Appleseed. I do in fact own both companies but they offer entirely different approaches to delivery. I recently bought out all of Appleseed now and have 6 specific offices to serve each area. Metro starts clearing at 4 cm versus 5 for example with Appleseed. I am rebranding the Appleseed brand to Metro Snow and Ice Management and the new name for Appleseed effective next week will be Metro. A letter, doorkncoker cards and email will be sent next week when over 10,000 driveWays we service. Sorry for the slow start you've experienced and I will speak to the area manager and driver to see what can be improved on. It also sometime has to do with where the competition starts their routes' versus where we start our routes. We get to the ones at the beginning of our routes faster and vice versa for the competition depending on the snowfall. We offer GPS Tractor Alerts, email snow alerts and progress email alerts and many other benefits no other company offers. We're proud of that and are still looking to impprove. Many thanks Ken Dale President Metro Snow and Ice Management

    Awful start

After many years of unsatisfactory experiences with a different snow removal company we chose to find a new company and chose metro. So far an awful choice...... Firstly email notifications offered but none received Second when they did come they did not plow all of the bottom of my driveway. Nor around the cars (would've moved them if email notification was Recieved) I put up posts this year to signify where the driveway ends after the same problem previous years but this time they stopped 3ft away. We live in the bend of the road and need it fully plowed in order to see when pulling oyt Thirdly, my mother uses the her walkway to get into and out of the house and seeing as the path has not been cleaned for THREE days she's been unable to leave. I called your company on Monday and was told someone would be out to clean the rest of drive way and path and area manager would call, guess what, no one called. I called this morning (8a) to voice my concern and was again told that someone would be out today to clean it and they would call to fix the email notification problem but as I arrive home now at 8pm nothing has been done When I try to call your phone number it hangs up on me right away Whats going on guys??!! Not the best way to treat a new client - I expect some sort of feedback and resolution pretty quickly

    Answer from pro:

I'm sorry you had issues the first few storms. As a new client of course we want to impress you with better service them your previous provider. You stated you had years of 'unsatisfactory experiences' with a previous provider and maybe 'your special requirements' are outside the scope of what's normally provided by snow companies. Regardless, I need your address in order to try to sort out the various issues you've expressed. When I receive that, I will address the issues with both the Area Manager and the actual driver involved. Hope we can improve over the next storm but please include your address so I can address this with the proper people. Ken Dale

Poor service from Metro snow and ice in Ottawa- issue addressed by owner

I had a problem with the initial service from this company. After making my views known the owner was very quick to contact me to explain how he has implemented changes that will restore service back to his level. I can accept this. As of Dec 29 I have been receiving very good service. I like the message service that provides updates on when clearing is to start.

    Answer from pro:

I'm sorry you had some issues Gordon. I will look in to the situation.immediately. If you signed up late during a storm you may not have marker stakes up. If you email the office attention myself I will call you to remedy this or refund your funds. Many thanks Ken President

    Driveway snow removal

Metro is almost always the first to arrive both for initial clearing and after plow dump, reliable, good clearing job, friendly driver, email alerts advise of plans for pending snowfall and when driver arrives on street.

Many thanks for you kind endorsement. Ken Dale President.

    Snow clearing

Great service. On the day of the big storm I think they were here 3 times and once or twice the next day including following the city plows and clearing the bottom of the driveway very quickly (which they do for every storm). Also great communication via email before and during every storm. I highly recommend them.

    Answer from pro:

Thanks Linda for your support and kind words. Ken
