    Long Haul Move

Sept 3rd – Able movers assures of pickup to occur in the afternoon between sometime around noon and three. Truck drivers arrived at 7:00 pm. They were inconsiderate and were generally rude. It should also be mentioned that they were not AbleMovers, instead they were a company named Atlantic2Pacific, a sub-contracted company by AbleMovers to complete long hauls. This had not at any time been explained by AbleMovers. Concern lead to our call on Sept 4. Sept 4th – Called Able movers to confirm delivery address with movers, as it appeared that they mistakenly thought that the delivery was to be sent to Edmonton not Calgary. Able could provide no method of contact with the driver. Provided a number for Sean (of AbleMoving) to confirm a delivery location however whether or not that message made it to him is unknown as he never returned the call or message. He also never returned my messages that came after (the 5th, 6th and 11th). Sept 4th to Sept 5th – Attempted to track down Atlantic2Pacific company numbers. All numbers provided by this company were disconnected (no valid number or company address to be found). Sept 6th – No word from Able, about the company, the truck, or my concerns. Sept 10th – Phone call placed to AbleMovers. The shipment situation was explained and the person who answered said they had not heard about this shipment before. He explained he understood the difficulty of the situation and apologized profusely and that he would get back to us immediately (our call was never returned). Sept 11th – Phone call placed to Able Movers. Jasmine answers the call. She is unable to contact Sean and provides no guidance on the issue (Sean is the only one that can help here). Missed call from Jasmine at 12:41 pm (message left). She states in her message that she did not get any answers and will keep trying Sean, she will call again on the 12th to confirm the details of her findings. Sept 12th No phone call from Jasmine, Sean is not returning calls. Sept 13th Spoke to Jason (of Able Movers) at approximately 7:15 am (Alberta Time), he states that he was on vacation and will look to get to the bottom of the issue and call back in 10 minutes. After an hour I called back about getting information on this dilemma at 8:15 am. Jasmine answered the phone and stated that Jason has left the office and that she still does not have any information regarding the shipment from Sean, and that she doesn’t know where Jason went. A call is received from Joel of VanLines (yes if you’re counting that’s now two other companies that I had no idea I would be dealing with) who says that he will only accept $3000.00 on delivery CASH or our parcels and shipment will be dumped at a station and it will be our problem to get them. We have an hour to get the money and then he is headed to Edmonton and we can deal with getting the truck after that. I immediately called AbleMovers about the situation. Jason claimed “this is not how we do business, and as mentioned, the cost is $2000.00, and does not have to be paid in cash.” Obviously given the history up to this point Im extremely dissatisfied with the circumstance. Finally we hear from Sean (of ablemoving), who begins to yell at my wife Sarah “We won’t unload until you pay-us.” Sarah was forced into signing the release form where she scratched out the “in good condition notation” as it was sight unseen payment on the parcels. Her only option when Joel arrives with the truck is to sign as they threatened to leave with our goods and it would be up to us to get our belongings (it was heading to Edmonton that same day). Joel of VanLines (on arrival with the truck) explained his aggravation and why he was rude over the phone. The truck (which had only 2 of the 4 person crew that had originally taken the vehicle from Ontario to Alberta) was found only after he had been looking through way-bills and invoices and found that a truck (our “missing” truck) had been sitting in his yard (in Calgary) for days. He mentioned that his friend/cousin had called him and asked that he “do him this favor and deliver the truck”. When he opened the truck he was appalled stating “I have never seen such a poorly packed truck in all my life, this is the worst I have ever seen. The company is absolutely the worst I have ever seen and I have been doing this for my entire career. I’m not supposed to allow you to come up into the back and take pictures but I’m sure things are damaged.” The girl in charge of the shipment (was the one that was to tag and categorize the numbers) was missing, parcels were everywhere, and no one was certain of what was whose (they were unloading other peoples furniture into our place). The truck that was given to Joel was a mishmash of peoples things thrown about and required the weigh bill and items listed be counted (twice) and marked off as they were taken since everyones boxes were scattered throughout the trailer Jason could not be reached at any time during the unloading, he returned no calls. Sean demanded that it was a money order only no if and or buts and that we deal with it. This was in defiance to what Jason assured us was not the case. Sept 14th Spoke to Jason of Ablemovers and notified him that I had sent an email depicting the amount of damages (large items) that have been noted to date, but that most of the boxes had not yet been opened (sales@ablemoving.ca). The email also stressed the urgency of resolving this issue as well as the fact that parcels damaged have not yet been totalled (total loss) 8:33am (10:33 am Toronto time). - Damages included broken bed frame, destroyed futon, broken dishes, broken kitchen ware, broken picture frames, broken dining set and cracked/bent chairs, broken wrought iron wine rack, clothes infested with cock-roaches (which was not the case when the shipment was packaged), the list goes on, and the pictures speak for themselves. Sept 18th 2013. Spoke with Jason from AbleMovers: he mentioned “I will be honest, I have never seen a case as bad as this before, we will need to begin putting all of these things in writing. I am currently speaking with the owner of the moving company we sub-contracted and we are investigating and replying in full to the detailed email that you had sent before” Sept 25th 2013. Phoned and asked where Jason was in terms of the negotiation with his companies owner. He replied “we will produce a claim receipt to you via email by this Friday” - The claim was never delivered on the Friday - Calls to AbleMovers on Friday and Saturday were not returned Sept 30th 2013. Jason answered the call, said he was in the middle of a sales meeting and would call back - Never returned the call - I called back and was told he had left for the day October 1st, 2013. Jason answers his cell phone, tells me that he didn’t want to send the offer because it wasn’t going to do anything but infuriate me. Mentioned that the owner is under the position that they are not responsible for the damages and that since extended coverage was not taken they are only required to provide 60 cents on the pound for items damaged. October 10th, 2013. Jason sends an email with what they are willing to pay for all of the damages. Total amount = 236.00 (this is based on an email where I explicitly stated that I had only just began to tally total damages). At this point, I pursued my options with my insurance company. Was told that it would be best to wait and negotiate with the company as my policy did not cover parcels “in transit.” A more inclusive and up to date account of damaged parcels was sent on November 28th to AbleMovers, who never returned an answer to the email. Called on January 6th about not having heard from their company and was told by Jason that his vacation was until January 8th and that he would call me at that time to go over the complaint. He never returned any calls, or additional emails that were sent to the company. Janurary 14th and still no word from AbleMovers. Do NOT use this company, they are untrustworthy and will say just about anything to get you off of the phone. I have been promised time and time again from Jason that he will get back to me, and he never does. All of our conversations are based on me calling until I get a hold of someone at the company. They claim to be in good standing with the BBB, this is clearly only due to the fact that more people haven’t gone through the process of filing a formal complaint against them. This company is a complete joke, they breached contract, demanding cash and use third party movers whom they accept no responsibility for. You are better to simply burn your processions then allow this company to move your items. The most upsetting fact isn’t the large items which were damaged but the pictures, and the glassware which were of sentimental value that were destroyed. I moved to Alberta a year prior to my wife moving out and lived in a furnished apartment with a roommate, we moved everything we owned during this move and did our research (expecting that this company would be a good choice). The cost of moving the items, having to come up with 2 grand cash, all in combination with the cost of replacing nearly all the items we paid to move put us into a financial situation that should never have occurred. I urge anyone who reads this to think twice about this joke of a company when it comes to long haul moves.

    Answer from pro:

We do acknowledge that Mr Smith was not serviced well at all by our contractor! We have ceased working with this contractor! We did come to terms with Mr Smith to help mitigate his loses. Resolution can be seen through the BBB. We sincerely regret the experience that Mr Smith and his family endured!

    Household moving

It was a difficult time for our family with having to dispose of household items of a family member who is now in extended care. Able Moving provided swift, efficient and careful service with packing and moving and delivered everything to Good Will. The cost of their full service was less than their original estimate. We are very appreciative of their service and sensitivity during this time.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you so much for your kind words! It was a pleasure serving your family. We wish you and your aunt all the best!

    Moving

My experience with Able Moving Company (Toronto, ON) was a terrible one. The move left a lot of my items damaged (dresser has chipped paint, broken vase, scratched nightstand and they took my desk apart without undoing the screws, so they are now stripped). The icing on the cake is my floor lamp from Urban Barn went missing. I noticed that during my move there were other peoples items in the front of the truck. My guess is my floor lamp went to wherever all of that furniture was going. I called to complain and was sent to the damages/claims department. I was never contacted back. It was very poor. Finally, I called back and the receptionist told me to contact the owner directly, which I did and never heard back. Spend your money wisely and hire a proper and reliable moving company. It is not worth the aggravation and headache.

    Answer from pro:

We regret that you feel this way. We acknowledge that you called about your lamp. We asked you to put your claim in writing and you refused to do that. We did check our truck and employees, but could not find your lamp? You never mentioned anything else was wrong, such as chipped paint on dresser, broken vase or scratched nightstand with stripped screws? We do acknowledge that there was a few other items on the truck from the previous days move, which were to be dropped off to Good Will (as requested by customer) after your move was done. These items were self contained and completely separate of your items. You were never contacted back by our claims department because you never put your claim in writing. You would never be told to call the owner because the owner does not deal with claims. All claims must be in writing!

    Bad moving experience

My moving experience with Able Moving (and Reliance Van Lines) was bad. Not only did Able Moving not answer any of my 21 phone calls or emails over a short period of time even though they are the middle man, but the movers from whatever company either Able Moving or Reliance Van Lines hired to deliver our things also made me really uncomfortable. One of the movers has called me after, calling me “pretty lady” and trying to flirt with me. Downright creepy. Not professional at all. Able Moving never replied to my emails about my experience.

    Moving

I had the pleasure to work with the movers from Able Moving & Storage this summer. I found that they were professional, on time and very good communicators. They informed me of what was taking place every step of the way and gave me instruction to get good packing for electronics as well. Thanks to Able Moving for a very good moving experience.

    moving

we moved from our rental apartment to a bungalow in the west end . We never thought that moving will be just such a big task...a friend recommended Able as they did an excellent job for them . For us they were OK but it was also very costly so we actually moved a lot of stuff ourselves with friend's cars

    Moving & Storage for Condo

I hired Able Moving because they were a family run business that assured me they took pride in their company and they operated a clean facility for the storage of the contents of my condo. Not only did the price change (considerable increase from the original quote) but when my belongings were returned they were damaged or all together missing. My couch had been infested with rats so they didn't even bother delivering it to me. My antique chest had legs broken off and missing. Some of my storage bins were returned broken and empty and my very expensive tool kit was never returned....seems like the tool kit went to the "front" of the truck not to the back with the rest of my belongings. I have called the company a number of times. The woman on the phone was very rude and no one in their office would return my calls so I went to their office. After seeing their warehouse I had to warn everyone DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE FOR STORAGE OR MOVING!!! Their only response was to have the rat infested couch "cleaned" and returned to me. It was the worst moving experience of my life and I hope no one else has to go through what I went through. Seriously I would move everything by myself with a mule and store it on the street before I would step inside their rat infested warehouse or have one of their workers anywhere near my belongings!!!!!! Don't make the same mistake I did!!!!!!

Corinna. Able Moving & Storage Ltd. has no record of moving you and or storing your possessions. Able Moving & Storage Ltd. does not have a warehouse. The office of Able Moving & Storage Ltd. is located within a third party public storage facility call Secured Self Storage, which is of the highest quality. Able Moving & Storage Ltd. only facilitates the moves in and out of the storage facility and does not deal with the rental of storage lockers. Able Moving & Storage Ltd. does not have any ladies answering phones and has not for over a year. Able Moving & Storage Ltd. has not received any phone calls, letters or emails regarding this whole situation. Able Moving & Storage Ltd. sincerely regrets the bad experience you may have had with a moving company that must of had a similar name as Able Moving & Storage Ltd. or misrepresented itself as Able Moving & Storage Ltd.. We at Able Moving & Storage Ltd. do take great pride in servicing our clients honourably with quality service. Able Moving & Storage Ltd. is family owned and operated and has been in operation since 1964 because of the quality of service that we provide. Regards, Jim

    Moving from house to townhouse

I've used this company in the past and expected the same level of service as previously.....well, it was a disaster. Someone came to the house a few weeks before the move; most everything was already packed; they determined how large a truck, number of people and time required for the move. I reconfirmed everthing by phone a few days before the move. So, come move day.....they called in the morning to say they had two times set up for me: 9 am and 1 pm. I said that 1 pm was the time I had ordered, but since the guys were there already, I'd be OK if the sent them ahead. No, they said they'd be there at 1. Well, the truck was 1.5 hours late (arrived at 2:30) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE description=VALUES(description),title=VALUES(title),story=VALUES(story); when i called to find out where they were, they didn't know and couldn't get in touch with them. Then, after 5 pm, the guys came to say they weren't going to be able to fit everything in the truck. So, I called the office, only to be told there was abosolutely nothing they could do about it. They'd have to take the stuff to the new house and come back for another load; but the guys said, there was no way they were doing that! So, here I am caught in the middle of an argument between the movers and their boss; with everyone saying too bad; my problem. The guys leave to go to take the load to the new house. In the meantime, the purchasers of the house arrive with their truck and are ready to start moving in. They were really good about it. Family and friends came to the rescue with a cube van, which they literally filled to the back door! Clearly, they had seriously under estimated the load AND clearly they could have seen long before 5:00 that they were going to have a problem. There is obviously a serious problem between staff and management, and the client is getting caught in the middle. The guys did a good job, worked hard and moved all my stuff into the new place. They seemed to know their work, were efficient and careful with my goods. But, management was useless and completely abondonned me. Obviously I'm not going to be recommending them again.

    Answer from pro:

We called you the morning before your move to confirm your 1:00 p.m. move. You insisted on a late start because your new home would have issues getting your keys to the house. We acknowledge that we arrived late at 2:30 p.m. because of traffic issues. Not long after, our driver told you that your items in the garage and backyard can not be stacked on top of your household items, as the salesperson also explained to you, so they would come back for a second trip as the new move location was very close. This would not have taken very long because it was only a few items that you ended up putting in a small cargo van. The new people would not have been put out as the house was completely empty when they arrived. Our people have never left a customer hanging in such a precarious position and never will! You have acknowledged what a great job our people actually did for you, does it make any sense that we would be so insensitive to your needs? Our management and workers do everything that is appropriate for the customer to make their move as stress free and economical as possible.
