    Water Heater Removal

I had been renting a water heater from National Home Services which was bought out by Reliance for approximately 7 1/2 years. Over the last year the Venting Motor broke down 3 times, and then about 3 weeks ago the water heater started leaking. I decided to purchase a new one not from reliance. When I phoned and told them about the leak, they first sent a technician to look at it he said that it would have to be replaced. I phoned later to inform them that I was not going to be renting another on from them, they gave me a prn# for Product return (prn#34990176) and said that I would be contacted later no less than 24 hours. Upon contacting me the representative indicated that to take their equipment out they would charge $125 and if I removed it they would need $65 to pick it up. Further to that if I intended to remove it myself I would have to return it to richmond hill or port hope both of which are over 30 min away. On the day that I was removing the WH one of their techs stopped by who then informed me that they have a depot right in Whitby where I live and it is there procedure to gouge any customer who tries to discontinue their service. Why would someone want to pay them to remove their equipment that was rented or pay them to pick up the faulty equipment. Reliance is not a honest or above board organization to business with and would advise and homeowner to beware of their business practices.

Bill Wright - Sudbury, ON - Tankless Hot Water System

Mr. Wright from Reliance - Sudbury, Ontario came to my home to see if my home could be fitted with a Tankless Hot Water System. He was on time, very knowledgeable about the product. He was extremely professional and courteous. He even changed a hard-to-reach light bulb for me :) I would recommend him and Reliance to anyone. Thank you Bill!!

    HVAC installation

    1) The furnace filter would not fit in the correct location (the old filter was mashed in - why the installers left the installation before this was dealt we do not know). Additionally, nothing in the docs that came with the furnace said what size of filter is needed (they gave it as 16x25 but not the final dimension). We tried two new 16x25x1 filters and destroyed a $10 unit trying to unsuccessfully fit it in. How Addressed: The furnace guy finally hammered around the filter area until it will now take a 16x25x1 filter. Why they did not do that upon installation instead of ramming in an old filter such that it could only be removed by ripping it out is unknown. 2) There was a setting for "full on" all the time on our old thermostat. The new unit is identical in appearance but even if you set it to (full) on, the fan only comes on some of the time - more or less the same functionality as the "Auto" setting. The salesman Dave agreed it should be full on, not partial or off How Addressed: The furnace guy several days later said all all new thermostats have this as an energy saving feature. This will create a problem for us as my wife needs a constant flow of air for her skin. There is nothing more we can do about thus unless we can somehow get back the old thermostat (they both look identical but the new one does not allow the fan to stay on). It is nice to know that their salespeople know their product well (NOT). 3) We were missing an 100 year old antique brick from wife's family home. This may sound like an odd issue but when wife gave up her 100 yr old ancestral home in Toronto more than 10 years ago, the only remnant she had left from it was a single old red brick. We normally use it to prop open the front door. It was there before the job was started but it was gone after they left. How Addressed: Somehow (after several calls) the furnace guy knew where it was (underside of the new A/C) and my wife finally has it back. 4) Vacupump oil was spilled all over the back yard with no explanation of why or what about it. (and it was not from the old A/C) my wife actually called the Fire Dept about it and they said that if we did not know what it was we should consider it hazardous, (including to wildlife) particularly in circumstances of this installation. How Addressed: We finally found out a few days later that is was something called --->Vacupump oil which unlike regular oil could be washed away (hopefully without doing any area damage) with soap and water. There is still some left in the back yard after days of soaking it but we are hoping that with wife constantly hosing down the area for her birdbath and the like it will diminish to the point it is not noticeable. As of now, there is still some there but it is manageable. 5) We kept calling Dave (we never got a last name) the salesman to get service for our issues but we had no response from him other than 1 visit to admit our complaints were valid plus to admit he did not return our calls (no action). How Addressed: As of this point this still holds true but as the rest of the stuff is now OK, it is not the issue it was up until a week after. 6) Why does a salesperson (who does not know his product) check out problems instead of someone capable of resolving the issue on the spot????? We never did find out the answer to this. As of the writing of this review, (Feb/17 all the above still stands but fortunately the installation seems to be working as it should.

    New Furnace and AC

Furnace shut down morning of Feb 15/17. Called Reliance at 8:00 am; Technician Paul arrived 2 hrs later. Found heat exchanger was cracked; he thoroughly explained the problems and hazards; Paul answered all my questions and gave me some "hints" on how to handle the salesperson that would be visiting me:) Within an hour, Salesman Jason Rowe paid me a visit....both have excellent people skills and very knowledgeable. Explained what I didn't need and recommended suitable units. Jason explained the available rebates and set up an appointment to get the house tested for the Union Gas rebate. He indicated installation would start between 8:00-10 am the following day. Well they arrived at 8:30 am and are currently dong the installation. The 1st thing they did was to put drop sheets on the floors and stairs....very impressive. All is going well so far. Update: perfect installation, the boys explained everything before they left....all is good. Jason showed up 1/2 way through to check on the progress and called me in the evening to follow up....this goes a long way with me!!

Furnace repair, then another repair, and finally replacement

It took three visits and shutdowns of my furnace for them to FINALLY figure out what was wrong. And when I asked for reimbursement for my bills, since I have to keep reheating my home from 6 degrees back up to 22/23, they told me that's not their concern! I HATE THIS COMPANY BUT I HAVE NO SAY BECAUSE I'M A RENTER.

    Totally unprofessional and unethical

    1) I was billed wrongly twice and it took me an hour to make them understand to waive me the additional charge 2) I was shouted at by someone from their retention team and i wanted to complain. I asked her to forward the call to the complaint team and she hung up. I called them again, she apologized for hanging up and then after 5 min, she said the complaint team would call me back. It's been 48 hours and haven't received a call yet 3) The customer service people are poorly trained and thy use lingo so that customers like us don't understand the whole story. This is not a cooked up story. I have a reference code from them and a name (fake name perhaps?) I feel very unfortunate to be shouted at despite living in a country like Canada! I felt humiliated! I will never deal with them again
