    unplug a kitchen pipe

The problem turned out to be complicated (a blockage 15' down the pipe, pipe had various branches). It required patience and persistence to solve. Jim solved it and was pleasant and professional throughout.

Water Main leak - incomplete project.

I will never hire Drainworks Plumbing again, and would definitely not recommend them to anyone. My husband and I called Drainworks initially to repair a leaking water main. After an initial visit by Matt, we payed Drainworks $500 for a site estimate and signed a work order. This seemed quite steep and possibly unorthodox, but we were keen to get the work started ASAP, so didn't feel like questioning the price or the method. Following up with Drainworks in the subsequent days, it became increasingly difficult to the point of impossible to go ahead with the project. The staff at Drainworks became non-cooperative, verbally abusive, and incredibly unprofessional. We learned that to repair this would involve digging a large hole in our front yard to replace the pipe. This involved potentially disturbing a city tree on our neighbour's property. So there were permits involved, and some very specific instructions from the city about how to go about making sure the tree wasn't harmed. Matt from Drainworks made some recommendations in his initial visit in terms of what permits and letters would be required. My husband and I acquired the appropriate city permits and papers. I contacted Drainworks to set up a schedule for the work. I spoke with Eddie, the VP/General Manager (who referred to himself as the "President"). Eddie seemed to take offence at the revised scope of the project, as it now involved fencing around the tree, etc. I assured him that we (the client) would by no means ask him to do extra work without being paid for it, but this did not seem to help matters any. Eddie became quickly abusive towards me on the phone. He said "you expect us to do all this stuff for you, but what have you done that we've asked", to which I replied that we had obtained the appropriate papers and letters required. To this he replied "how can you prove that?", to which I replied "I have the letter in my hand." Most of the rest of the conversation consisted of Eddie yelling at me, insinuating that I was out of line, selfish, and possibly being deceptive. I asked Eddie a few times to please not shout at me, but that seemed to only make him more irate. I attempted to contact the office in subsequent days and spoke to someone named William. William would not put my call through to Eddie or any other member of staff. He also refused to provide me with any information, even the last name of the owner. I called back a few times to try again, but in the end William hung up on me, so I decided to leave it there and chalk it up to a bad experience. I was appalled by the behaviour and attitude of the staff at Drainworks. I have since learned that this kind of client treatment is not uncommon in Toronto, but I remain baffled by it.

Suspicious smell, good advice, happy client

I've hired Drainworks 2-3 times over the last 10 years and have always been satisfied. This time, there was a suspicious smell in the basement, which was not clearly or only a drain smell. Armando came and scoped the drains. He located an old cleanout that had been improperly sealed and rocks (!) inside a drain. He suspected a broken cast iron pipe and recommended that we dig up at and around that location. Lo and behold, there was no cracked drain but 2 open drains that had never been capped and from which smells and rodents could come out under a raised floor. DW removed the old drains, reconfigured them properly and closed up. It's been less than a week but the problem is solved and the smell gone. This was a complex and unusual situation for which I was grateful to have retained experienced professionals with good judgment. As always, the work was performed when agreed and at the agreed price.

    Continue to be very satisfied

I have been using Drainworks for at least 10 years and have always been very happy with their professionalism and expertise. Most recently we had problems with three toilets. William got us an early appointment on a cancellation and Jim dealt with the problem toilets - one fixed, two replaced. He came across an unexpected root presence under the basement toilet so the job was larger than expected, requiring pipes to be replaced, but the work was done well and in a very timely way.

    Toilet flange and piping replacement

Beware of cost. Review CAREFULLY what you sign. Apparently it doesn't matter what you understand the price is. If you don't read the document, you may be in for a surprise as I was. What was originally suppose to be a $69 fee to visually inspect the work that needed to be done, turned into what I thought was a $179 fee to open up the drywall to really look at it. I agreed to $179, but it was actually $179 per hour!! So, it cost me over $300 for them to just give me a quote. What makes it worse is that I had just spent $8000 on floor drains with them in the basement. I questioned the price when I handed over the credit card but I paid it regardless thinking that I could resolve it with the office. Not so. When I called the company to dispute this, they said "you signed the paper", why was I saying this after the fact (fyi: I said it to the service guy when I saw the amount on the cc machine but being a nice person I just accepted it at the time with the intention to speak to the office). Totally unimpressed with this. They won't apply this amount to the cost to do the work (which would have been the case if I only paid the $69 which I was told when they booked the appt). The quote to do the work is $1500 plus I still have to pay the $300. This paid fee won't be deducted from the cost of the work. Had I not done any previous work with them I may not be so angry about this, but since I had just given them a lot of business, I find this crazy. They said that they may be able to do something if I proceed with the work but in my opinion, they should reimburse me the disputed amount regardless. This does not make me want to do any further work with them. This is really unfortunate as I was happy with the drain work that they did in the basement, but very unhappy with how they handled this situation. So triple check what you are agreeing to.

    Answer from pro:

**DT** It is unfortunate to have received this review from you. Despite being verbally given the price as well as signing off on it as acceptance to proceed, you claim to have misunderstood the price to open your walls, assess and then provide a quote. It seems you also misunderstood when calling our office after the fact, because as an appreciated repeat customer, it WAS offered to lessen the difference from what you thought the cost of service was, from the cost of the quoted work. You say you thought the cost would be a flat $179 + hst, not $179 + hst per hour to open the drywall, and you were charged for 1 ½ hours of service, which is $268 + hst, so a difference of $89 + hst is what we offered to deduct from the quote once proceeding. This would have restored the cost of services and quote to what you thought them to be, but you declined, holding out for a reimbursement, however; a reimbursement for approved services rendered, after the fact, is not possible. Services, unlike a material product, cannot be returned. If you do wish to take us up on our offer, please call our office to proceed. We would be delighted to hear from you.

    Toilet Stack in Heritage House

Our toilets and other fixtures were not draining properly, and we had William come in to inspect. He explained probable causes and explained methods of how to solve the problem. He used a camera/scope to find the location of the blockage in the basement. We arranged for a their team to come later in the week, to excavate part of the basement floor and replace the damaged area. Extra problems were found, and they fairly added to the cost of the work. They left the house clean, and quickly had everything back in place within the time they predicted. I never felt pressured, misled, or overcharged. Their team communicates with each other and are well co-ordianted. I would recommend Drainworks to anyone with plumbing problems.

    Sewer pipe replacement

I have used Drainworks before and have been always very satisfied with their courteous and professional service. I had a major sewer backup and they arrived promptly and worked very hard to replace the existing old pipe in as quick as possible so we could continue to live in the house. I would always recommend you call Drainworks first!

Leaky Sink basement / no hot water bathroom sink upstairs

The service start to finish was nothing short of impressive and I'd go as far to stay incredible. From the very start Drainworks made it easy. I dealt with J.P who was fantastic and ended up calling me a couple days after I booked and got a plumber in to me 2 days early. The plumber -Chris- that arrived provided some of the best customer service I've ever had. He was friendly, polite, professional and obviously extremely competent. He went straight to work but was giving me clear feedback on the problems he suspected and the costs associated with checking the surface vs. under panels to confirm it. Once that was complete he gave me a clear, written quote and revised total before moving ahead to make sure I was comfortable with everything. He got everything replaced in the basement, the outside faucet re-winterized, left clear instructions on seasonal upkeep and even provided a referral for some unrelated reno work in my bathroom. It was truly above and beyond service. Once he was done in the basement he looked at the bathroom sink (I hadn't even remembered to tell them beforehand it had an issue, too) and got that fixed for me, too. I received tremendous value for the money spent and couldn't be happier with the results. I will definitely be using Drainworks again and would strongly recommend them to anyone in need. Judging by my experience with Chris and J.P plus seeing the results of their work I can say without a doubt you'll be more than satisfied with their technical abilities and their genuine and sincere customer service.

Drain backup repair -- fast, efficient, courteous.

We contacted DrainWorks after a sewer backup. After an immediate camera scoping and assessment, they were able to start working within 3 days, and the digging, pipe replacement and refill was completed in a single day. Because the digging around a shared pipe had to be done mostly on our neighbour's property, we appreciated that the crew made a special effort to take apart the concrete steps in a way that allowed them to be replaced almost exactly as they were (which our neighbours were not expecting and were relieved to see). Armando followed up on the work a day later and gave a full camera inspection right out to the city line to show the quality of the work.
