I was originally impressed by the quality reviews and communication of Newridge. Therefore we went ahead with them as the provider to refinish and stain about 300 sq ft and about 12 steps. It turns out that Newridge sub-contracts out their work. Initially Gabor assessed the job, and we were impressed with the references and the professionalism. In addition his equipment is the dustless sanding quality. However due to our delays in scheduling, Gabor wasn’t available, and Keen came in to complete the job. As we live in a side-split house, and this was one of the main area’s being refinished, we were aware that we wouldn’t be able to be in the house during this process, therefore we arraigned for them to start on a Friday, with us returning on Tuesday afternoon (everyone had assured me that 4-5 days was more than enough to complete the job). At no point during this renovation did we receive any message about any delays, and my voicemails and text messages to Keen went unanswered. Therefore it came as a surprise and major disappointment that when we returned on Tuesday afternoon (with our young kids), not only was the job not completed (no urethane even started) but that the final coat of stain was still wet. They did return the following day to put down 1 coat of urethane, however the quality of the workmanship was extremely poor with the floor and railings having a rougher finish than when they started and the floors appearing very streaky. They returned again 2 days later to put down another coat of urethane (noted that they did not buff between coats as was noted on the original quote). This made the job acceptable looking, however still not great. Some of the deficiencies we have noticed (some of which were pointed out prior to them completing the job); not all of the nail holes where the previous carpet tack strips were filled, when staining the railing they also splashed stain on the painted walls (so we will now need to repaint some walls), there are drops of stain on the completed flooring at the bottom of the stairs (this is the floor that was already in place, and that they were not refinishing), the handrails are still fairly rough, they scratched the finished floor with their equipment (later came in to buff that scratch out), and some of the underside of the stairs (bullnose) were not stained (which isn’t visible from someone standing). I will say that any issue I did have, and escalated to Scott, he was very quick to respond, and tried to be helpful. However many of these issues it was too late to do anything about. So overall, this process took significantly longer than was expected. Which was my primary issue, as I have young kids, and therefore was trying to avoid bringing them back into a house that was filled with either dust or significant vapors from the stain/urethane. Even when it was completed, the quality is average and is not what one would expect for the price or from a company with this type of reputation.
