    Toilet Repair

We first used Michael Aviv’s services seven years ago. His plumbing company was recommended to us by a well-known Canadian bathroom and kitchen fixture manufacturing company. When we called Michael he was very professional and courteous over the phone and scheduled us in right away. He was just as professional and courteous in person when he came to fix a shower handle, replace a shower hose and head, and fix the pop-up arm mechanism in our bathroom sink. We were very pleased with his work. Seven years later, Michael was top of mind to contact when our toilet contracted the dreaded “phantom flush”. Again, Michael was very professional and courteous to deal with and responded to us promptly. As it turned out, our model of toilet was a discontinued one but Michael called around and was able to get the parts needed (sooner than expected) and then Anthony arrived on scene to successfully and satisfactorily carry out the repairs. We would highly recommend Aviv Plumbing and would use their services again.

    Valve adjustment for kids washroom

A friend recommended Michael's services to help fix a valve in our kids' bathroom. The water wasn't getting hot enough. Michael took care of everything professionally and promptly, from calling the supplier to explaining to us how the valve works once he fixed it. Kind and responsible - a rare combination in contractors. Thank you, Michael!

    Shower fixures

Michael (owner) provided a really highly professional work experience. He was very appreciative to client's time, highly responsive before during and after the job. On top of that conveyed Everything in a very friendly manner. Not a lot of service providers of this quality around there. Very much recommended.

    Leaky shower faucet.

Call Michael after seeing his van in the parking lot at a local plumbing supplier. I was in trouble with the water shut off and couldn't complete the repair. He came right away missing his dinner. Very knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. Had specialized tools and was very quick. They will become our plumber of first choice in the future.

    leak under kitchen sink

I am very disappointed with this company, after hearing positive recommendations both online and in person. We called them for a leak from under the kitchen sink into the basement. They came promptly and fixed two problems, charging us around $200. At this point I was quite pleased with the service. A week later it was leaking again. They came back (promptly) and said it was a different problem unrelated to plumbing and that they couldn't fix it (we needed to replace the counter). A week or so later there was a massive leak from under the kitchen sink into the basement, obviously not related to the counter. When I called Michael to tell him there was another leak he immediately became defensive, rude, and hostile, and warned me quite rudely that if it was not a problem with the part they had fixed then I would have to pay. He did promptly send a plumber who said we had a brand new problem in the exact same area - another leak from under the kitchen sink into the basement unrelated to the work they had done - complete coincidence, he said. Without arguing, we paid another $200 to have this new problem fixed. Then a few weeks later it is leaking AGAIN. When I called Michael this time he was shockingly rude and even insulting. He promptly sent a plumber back who now says once again that it is a problem with the counter. I don't know enough about plumbing to say definitively that this whole saga is their fault (maybe three unrelated problems within three weeks that all produce a leak from under the kitchen sink into the basement is just a huge coincidence), so I will not pass judgement on their plumbing. As well, the two plumbers who came to our house (Anthony and Daniel) were both courteous and pleasant and I had no problem with them. However, the way I was treated over the phone by Michael was unprofessional and unpleasant in the extreme. Overall, I strongly do not recommend.

Dear Abigail. Thank you for posting this review on Homestars and allowing me the opportunity to respond in a public forum. I understand that you are angry and disappointed with the way the job went in your home and I appreciate that sometimes being told the honest truth can be hard to accept. You are correct that there were 2 issues that needed to be addressed under the kitchen sink. The first issue was a basket strainer that was leaking and in very poor condition. This was replaced and at the same time you were told that the wood counter top was in very poor condition and that it was allowing water to leak through. You were told to keep the area above dry. When you called back regarding water in the cabinet again, I sent a plumber immediately (same day). After checks, he told you that it was from the counter top and he advised you again to keep the surface dry. On the 3rd time you called which was almost 3 weeks later I sent a different plumber. He located a bad solder connection under the sink and repaired it and replaced a bad supply line (was not leaking just did not look good). He also advised you that the couner top was in poor condition and that water was leaking down from above and that you should consider additional repairs. When you called me on Friday morning, it was you that immediately told me that you were refusing to pay any more for any repairs. I said that if the leak was as a result of the repairs previously done, then I would do the repairs at no charge. However if it was water from the counter top or any other reason, then I would have to charge. You replied that if further work was needed then you would find some other company. I however would have to send a plumber, which I did at around 11am the same day. He met with your husband and again it was water from the counter top and not a plumbing issue. I have pictures that were taken of the counter top that very clearly illustrate the condition and show the degree of dampness and mold. I may post these on my Homestars Listing and can forward these to you if you wish. I also requested a signature acknowledging the condition of the counter top but this was refused. I understand that you are not a Plumber and that when you see water you immediately assume its a plumbing leak, and yes we did repair two separate leaks in the same area. This does happen on occasion in older homes where the overall condition of the plumbing, drains and cabinets is not that great. It is unfortunate that you found my tone to be rude ( possibly due to my accent) but all I was trying to do was to be honest and transparent with you. I'm sure that the general public that read this review and see a Zero by my name will question it as I have been in business for over 20 years and have never had a bad review on Homestars before. I wish you all the best with resolving your water issues and thank you again for this opportunity. One I seldom if ever get. Regards Michael Aviv

    kitchen faucet and drains replacement

WE are delighted with the customer service, the workmanship and the courtesy! The plumber, Anthony, was a very diligent and careful worker who replaced the 40-year old drainage pipes and drains (which was a difficult job) in a confined and awkward space. Anthony and Michael answered our questions and gave good advice. Aviv will certainly be our plumbers from now on and I would recommend them to anyone.

    Kitchen Drainpipe Leak

I called Aviv Plumbing on a Thursday morning about a basement leak originating from our kitchen sink drainpipe. A plumber arrived within two hours -- two hours earlier than estimated. He determined quickly that the leak was not easily accessible and needed to get behind the drywall. I needed time to clear out the space for him to work so he setup a time to return on the Friday morning. As promised, he returned this morning. He opened a relatively small hole in the rec room ceiling and replaced the section of the drainpipe that failed. This was a tricky job that required a couple of hours to be completed safely (i.e. drainpipe flush with electrical and kitchen subfloor -- things you discover behind the drywall). The plumber was friendly, professional, and cleaned up the debris. I can use my sink and dishwasher again!! I recommend Aviv Plumbing. I have used them previously to install the dishwasher.
